Don’t get me wrong my marionberry cheesecake flavor was actually pretty phenomenal. I do wish they had better options for the sundae toppings? I did only choose a very simple one. The big disappointment was the vegan vanilla bean pint ice cream I got and how EXPENSIVE it was! Is it usually that expensive in grocery stores lol? Horrible customer service. I literally stood for 5 minutes at the counter and not one of the 2 persons working acknowledged me. I finally asked the one who was 18 inches away (making waffle bowls)from me about placing an order. The other employee said she would take my order momentarily. When I asked for the one of many vegan flavors listed on the store's website, I was told that they didn't have it, and that they never had it. She pointed to the board on the wall that showed the vegan flavors I could order. This list was considerably shorter. I decided to leave empty handed. As I approached the door, she told me to check the freezer for a pint of the flavor I wanted. I did find it. This is not the experience I had wanted or expected. When it comes to ice cream, Van Leeuwen can only be summed up as a farce. For an extended wait in line, the promise of paying more than the average ice cream shop, on this visit I was met with “sorry, we’re out of this flavor,” “sorry, we’re also out of this.” Which is understandable they may be out of options, but what really sealed my fate was being told they do not make malted milkshakes despite having “malted milkshake” on the menu, and then also told even for a milkshake they do not have chocolate syrup or any substitute to use for the shake? I can understand having fun ingredients, but when you don’t even carry the bare minimum basics is fantastical. Especially for the exorbitant price. Could it just not be for me? Sure, absolutely.
