Tried this place for the first time. It's a smallish restaurant with a nice outdoor patio area. That being said, we had a party of seven and they did not have tables that accommodate more than six. Our option was to take two separate tables or have two of us share one hotpot. We opted for the latter. Being a frequent patron of Seapot and Warehouse Buffet (when they still offered hot pot), my expectations were along those lines: wide selection of dishes with small portions and constant reordering (if you have a healthy appetite). I was prepared to be disappointed when I saw the set price menus with each featuring one type of protein, and only one serving of that protein. There was no vegetable selection as each menu came with a standardized selection of vegetables. When the meals arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, the vegetable assortment that came with each set menu was 1) abundant portions and 2) very fresh and healthy looking. You know what I mean: at some hot pot places you feel a little suspicious about how long the food had been sitting in the fridge. Secondly, the plate of protein (our table tried the whole range of proteins) was also a large portion. My beef was sliced so thick I actually had to wait for it to cook in the broth. Other hot pot places they slice the meat so thin you could just dip for 15 seconds and then eat it. Not so here. My plate of beef was more than filling. Lastly, their broth was very tasty. I normally dump in all the condiments that you can order with hot pot (cilantro, soy sauce, green onions, garlic, etc) to make my broth more tasty, but that was not necessary here. You could still get all the condiments you want (in those annoying, wasteful little plastic cups...not Mumu's fault) but I only used it for dipping. My family had a great meal here. Mumu has opted for a different hot pot experience from the all-you-can-eat-small-portion variety for a more curated, fresher meal experience. It took me a while to overlook the psychological satisfaction of an all-you-can-eat restaurant, but Mumu left my stomach satiated and my taste buds happy. Oh, 4 stars only because they couldn't accommodate a larger party. I hope when they fully reopen that changes. I'd be glad to change my rating to 5 for the...
Read moreMy partner and I came here at 6:30 on a Friday night because we didn’t want to wait an hour for Seapot. So this review is going to be a Seapot/Mumu comparison. We got the Mumu Signature for two and it was just the right amount of food for two adults. At Mumu you get quality over quantity while the opposite is true for Seapot. The overall bill was about the same. You don’t get to choose which veggies and sides you get at Mumu but the meat selection is more diverse and everything is, again, higher quality. Oftentimes the meat at Seapot would have that stinky old meat smell and taste. The sauce bar is decent but doesn’t offer as much at Mumu. They also don’t have a kimchi and fruit bar but that’s okay for me since I rarely have enough space in my stomach for these auxiliary items. The vibe at Mumu is more laidback (ie no giant screen playing music videos) and the servers are attentive and nice. Oh, and at Mumu, there are takeout containers freely available for your leftovers! I’m pretty sure Seapot doesn’t provide these. Overall I am pleased and would choose Mumu...
Read moreDon't know if my appetite and tastebuds have changed, but, I don't really like AYCE hot pot anymore! NO, Im not knocking it, it's just not for me anymore? Can't get my money's worth like I used to!
Mumu (Foster City) is my new favorite hot pot spot! I could probably eat here once a week, every week! I usually go for one of the two "Meat Lovers" menus. One is regular for $58 for party of 2 and the other is "premium" w/ better quality of meat, for $98. The premium includes melt in your mouth wagyu!😋
There are 7 flavorful soup bases you can choose from including mushroom and spicy Tom Yum. They also have a nice sauce bar where you can make your own signature sauces for dipping.
Love how bright and clean and sterile the restaurant is and the great level of service. Never been to the other locations in Sunnyvale or Pleasanton. Lots of parking...
