The pizza quest carries on.
Given the world-renowned reputation of Tony Gemignani, I was looking forward to this place. Unfortunately, Slice House was a big letdown.
Food: As always, I qualify this by saying the core basis of the review is centered around the cheese slice. The dough was very good, the cheese was OK, but the sauce was HOLY BATMAN sweet. The closest comparison I have is lunchables pizza sauce, it's close to ketchup. Tomatoes, sugar, not sure what else. Nothing in the way of seasoning. The Tomato Pie slice, which I'm very sure uses a different sauce, was actually pretty good. The Wiseguy slice was a mess and not good at all. The Sweet Gino grandma slice was very mediocre. Only one slice out of four was any good, and even then, not particularly special.
Service: The employee we interacted with was friendly, no issues with actual service---apart from the service of keeping the dining room clean. Every unoccupied table was still dirty despite it not being very busy when we came in.
Atmosphere: Nothing especially memorable good or bad. Frankly the atmosphere was just pretty generic, lacking much in the way of personality. They had some cool pizza box art on one wall, I guess that's one thing.
I will say the one good thing here is that the dough, generally, is quite good (but NY not strong enough to hold up to any real toppings), but otherwise this place misses the mark across the board. Some elements like the massively sweet sauce are simply bad, others like the cheese or toppings are just "fine". There is no individual thing that Slice House does better than anyone else. It's also pretty expensive at $6 to $7 a slice, you do not get your money's worth. I hate to leave such a negative review, it's not like it was inedible (well, the Wiseguy slice was close to it), but when I'm charged premium prices for average to below average pie, I have to be honest about it. If they fix the sauce, this place would have...
Read moreI’m giving this place 3 stars, primarily due to the effort of the two young women at the register who did their best to assist us. They were friendly and accommodating where they could be. - so they each get a star and the no charge ranch.
However, I was quite disappointed by the lack of flexibility when placing our order. I wanted to get a 20-inch Hawaiian pizza, priced at $38, but my niece only wanted pepperoni. Since we were also ordering three servings of chicken wings at $15 each, getting two whole pizzas would have been excessive. I asked if we could do a half Hawaiian and half pepperoni pizza, and I was even willing to pay the full Hawaiian price, knowing it costs slightly more than a pepperoni.
To my surprise, I was told they couldn’t accommodate that request. The team member in a gray chef uniform—presumably the manager—said they don’t do custom pizzas without charging extra. I found it unreasonable to be asked to pay more for a pizza that actually required fewer toppings. It seemed like a very simple request for a place that makes pizzas by hand.
As a result, my niece had to pick off the Hawaiian toppings herself, which was frustrating and disappointing for a first-time visit.
Additionally, the ambiance left much to be desired. The restaurant had all three doors propped open, which not only allowed flies inside but also created a strong breeze that cooled down our food quickly, regardless of where we sat. I’m unsure if this was due to a broken A/C, but it certainly affected the dining experience.
Overall, while the staff at the front made a genuine effort, the lack of basic accommodation and poor dining environment left us dissatisfied. Unfortunately, we’re...
Read moreI visited Slice House on 10/4/25 at around 6 PM. I opted to get 3 slices of pizza to get a wide tasting of what they offer. 2 of the pizza's had just come out of the oven so I was excited to try them fresh without them having to be reheated in the oven. After I placed my order it took them around 30 minutes to get my 3 slices. I had to approach the counter to ask what was going on. The young gentleman on duty looked up my order and realized I had probably been skipped. He said that he would get my pizza ready and have it out in 3 minutes or so. To his credit I did happen to get my pizza's quickly after he said that. The problem is that now I had reheated pizza. Unfortunately, with a delay of 30 minutes to get 3 slices it soured my visit. Pizza was below value for what it offered. Service was slow and non-attentive. I understand that the restaurant is busy, but I did notice other customers complaining about their food while I waited. The other issue I overheard and saw was a customer complaining to the same person that assisted me that the pizza was too thing and even showed him how there was a hole in the crust that made the cheese go through the platter. I will probably not visit again since I do not see a redeeming quality for...
