Goodness where do i begin. You get better sushi at publix next door where at least they have to operate under corporate standards. I can compare because i had publix sushi the night before i visited this place and actually eat it all the time. Sashimi is supposed to be sliced thin and bite sized...they cut up a whole chunk and serve it. Wife order "real crab meat" from the menu....they served the "real crab" meat that you get at the grocery store that has been canned in water that is all minced up fine. On the menu you can order Imitation Crab meat, or Real Crab meat, lol. The fried chicken wings were over fried and burnt. Ordered the hibachi chicken and steak combo and it was as tender as shoe leather...the waitress even asked how i like my steak cooked. Sorry if you are going to ask that question, then cook it correctly. All over done. The vegetables and their "fried" rice was all microwaved with a little sauce thrown on top. The food never touched a hibachi flattop grill and i am not joking. We were close to the kitchen...no sizzling or sounds of anyone cooking of any kind, no aroma coming out of the kitchen. Their fried rice was gummy and sticky like how instant Uncle Bens brown rice in a bag is where you microwave it for 90 seconds. All it is is microwaved ready brown rice. If it was cooked on a hot hibachi grill, youre suppose to smell and taste the browning of the meat, rice and veges, but there was none of that. Nothing was fresh. And nothing fried about that rice. I spoke to the sushi chef about it and they said thats how they make it and that they dont microwave anything. Even offered to take me back to the kitchen. All lies. Tempura shrimp and vegetables are from already frozen premade tempura, like the kind you get from an asian grocery store. Now onto the service...waitress was not attentive and could care less about customers...she threw down the menu and left. I get there might be a language barrier that keeps her from conversing too much, but at least a smile or be more welcoming would be better. I complained and they at least took off the burnt wings and offered to remake the hibachi steak, but at that point we were running low on time and just didnt want to be there anymore because feeling like we got scammed feels horrible, especially when our bill was 100.00 for microwaved food...yes people these days can tell the difference between fresh food and left overs that you fed your family the night before. This place is a scam. Stay away from this place. Theres a chinese food place next door....thats where we should have went and thats where you...
Read moreI read the good reviews first, ate my meal fully, and THEN read the bad reviews. There is some truth in all of them except for a review by Paul C, who complained of Chinese people cooking the food/owning the restaurant, as if that matters. As of my visit today, the staff were ALL JAPANESE, SPEAKING JAPANESE TO EACH OTHER, & WATCHING JAPANESE TV. And I'm sure Paul doesn't care who serves his burgers or his pizza, so who cares if there was Chinese people making Japanese food?? Dumb and irrelevant details.
Moving on, the service was definitely not great, the hostess was very bored and almost seemed spiteful, as if it was my fault she worked there. I sat at the bar and my sushi was handed to me with a smile by the chef, and the presentation was lovely. The flavors were a little bland but the portions were generous. I ordered a specialty roll with fresh crab/tuna/salmon/masago/avocado & more but I forgot the name!! 😬 It was very beautiful and the fish was fresh but the flavors were not very memorable or distinguishable from each other. I also ordered a simple tuna roll and Alaska roll, the last one being my favorite of all three. Pretty hard to mess up an Alaska roll in my opinion.
Overall, maybe I'll come back in a month or so and see if the service has changed somewhat. I really wanted to ignore the negative reviews and have a 4-5 star experience but you have to take the good with the...
Read moreWe had high hopes for Kumo as it’s not far from our home and looking forward to what the reviews raved about. We did not find our experience to be memorable. Upon arriving we were bruskly greeted and group close to other diners which we didn’t think was prudent so we wore our masks. We could have been spaced apart from others as the dinning rooms was not busy. We ordered pieces, rolls and sushi deluxe. The service was indifferent but not rude. The food arrived quickly and I note that entrees don’t come with soup or salad like other places in the area. A salad was 5.99. My wife’s entree rolls were very good as well as other small rolls she ordered. My sushi deluxe was chewy and included pieces that I rarely get elsewhere - mackerel and don’t like much. I felt that the sushi chef was not very skillful in the presentation nor did I enjoy my sushi much. While eating I smelled stale cigarette smoke that bothered me. I felt that the smoke was embedded in the walls where the wall paint look dated and stained. If the sushi was a mixed bag the rest of package ambiance was severely lacking - the front windows had bamboo shades that were dingy and very old. I was happy to leave ….I will not be...
