My family and I went to this Hangry Joe's location for the first time on my recommendation after having had great experiences at another location in Ashburn. Unfortunately, this place did not live up to my previous experience.
The food was hot and the chicken on my sandwich was spicy, but that's about all I can say that is positive. The mac and cheese and loaded fries were absolutely smothered in a vile mystery sauce that was not explicitly laid out on the menu, and were completely inedible because of it. The slaw on my chicken sandwich turned the bun into a soppy wet sponge, and the fries were overcooked, under-seasoned, and generally just not pleasant. My daughter's chicken nuggets looked and tasted like something you'd see on display at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in DC. They were so bad that I had to make her a sandwich to eat when we got home because she didn't want to eat them.
The guy that took our order did not seem very knowledgeable about the menu, as most questions were answered with a runaround, barely audible, mumbled version of "I don't know." It is also clear that the employees are not empowered to make simple judgement calls about customer service. We had to request some of the food be remade because it was virtually inedible, which lead to the employee making a ten minute phone call - presumably to the manager - to get approval to remake the food. By that point, two of us were already almost done eating.
The bathrooms were also completely out of order (possibly for the best, as other reviews have said they were filthy) and the general restaurant seemed only moderately clean. It gave the same vibe as a kid that shoved all his dirty clothes under his bed. On the surface it looked cleanly, but when you really looked you noticed the filth. The soda machine had a bunch of fruit flies flying around it, and I've seen enough Bar Rescue to know what that means.
Overall a very disappointing experience given the stellar meals I've had at other Hangry Joe's locations. I rarely write negative reviews on here, but this was just so poor and disappointing, I felt obligated to say something on here. I hope the location is able to improve, because I was so excited when I heard they were opening one here...
Read moreFood was so good! One concerning issue upon arrival had hand written sign under milk tea & smoothie menu read “coming soon”. When ordering I asked to confirm if I was able to order “cookies and cream smoothie” cashier looks to co -worker that rolled her eyes he said no not at this time. I paid for the food my family and I proceed to sit and wait for our food. Several customers come in all at once cashier runs from behind the counter to remove “coming soon” sign and discards of it! The co-worker then proceeds to make the same smoothie I asked for another customer. After the line went down I then asked the cashier how they pick and choose who they make drinks for because I was understanding when they had the “coming soon” sign up but in fact could make the drink I was declined. The cashier and co worker just smiled and looked at each other before cashier said “ okay we”ll make for you” without explaining why or how they pick and choose who to make drinks for?...
Read moreHangry Joe's chicken is absolute dynamite. If you've never had it; I'd describe it as the beautiful love child of Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.
Let me elaborate: waffle fries and premium quality chicken like you'd expect from the place with the cow mascot, but seasoned like you'd expect from that Louisiana inspired chain.
It would be a drastic understatement and an injustice to say Hangry Joe's was mearly a marriage of two well-known styles. While managing to bring about the best of both worlds, from the aforementioned brands, Hangry Jo's delivers so much more with unique and delicious combos. Including a few of my favorites, the korean nuggets, and loaded fries.
This is one of those places where I just want to try everything on the menu. I highly recommend you give it a try...
