This morning we walked to Gravel & Grind from our AirBNB. It was the GF waffles that led us there; my spouse hadn't had one in decades and we were hopeful based on other's reviews. We got there to find a line out the door (always a good sign) that moved pretty fast. We ordered a GF waffle with everything (fruit compote, butter, syrup) and a fully gluten waffle of the same. For drinks we got a Peruvian pour-over and a Chai Latte with almond milk. We agreed both of our waffles were EXCELLENT: crispy on the outside, fluffy and delicious on the inside. I don't know how they get the syrup on these without them turning to mush, but they did it! This was the best waffle I've ever had. It was, dare I say it, PERFECT. In fact, I at almost every bite before I knew it (very unusual for The Queen of "May I Have a Box!" My spouse said the pour-over was VERY good - this is high praise from my self-proclaimed Coffee Snob. I liked how the Chai Latte had a bit of a bite to it, likely from the clove infused in it. We sat on the back patio at one of the many umbrella-ed, four-seater tables under a canopy. We were the only ones there. By the time we left, it was almost full of visitors. I got to play with a 10-month-old at the next table (delightful) and to pet an adorable Tibetan Terrier dog on my way out. Yes, I recommend this place. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and quick. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up back there again!

Finding a good, specialty coffee shop can always be a challenge. I've enjoyed specialty coffee for nearly 6 years now, and I've always been a little dismayed by the difficulty of finding coffee shops that care as much about the art of coffee as I and many others do. If you have ever felt the same way I do and you live in the Hagerstown/Frederick area, look no further. My wife and I have visited twice in the past month. For baked goods, we recommend their banana bread. As for coffee, their pour overs are great. Last time we visited, I had an iced pour over of the Honduras Iris Suyapa Chicas naturally processed coffee. It was so fruity and sweet that I had to bring a bag home for myself, and they were happy to provide me with their brew recipe. I also always get an espresso, which is always a great experience. Instead of just serving you a small cup of espresso, they also serve you a glass of sparkling water all on a wooden board with a spoon for stirring the espresso. I was very impressed with this method of serving espresso as well as the quality of the espresso itself. I was able to ascertain some fruity notes in the espresso, which makes me wonder if they were using a naturally processed coffee that day. They have a bunch of coffee equipment such as grinders and scales. They also have coffee from various roasters, which seem to rotate each time we visit. We highly recommend this place.

Coffee Shop No. 450 Gravel and Grind Fredrick, MD November 19, 2024 On this chilly November morning I managed to visit three coffee shops in Fredrick, MD. Gravel and Grind created the best cortado. The cortado’s temperature was perfect, its texture was velvety and the flavor of coffee was well balanced with the milk; simply a deliciously made drink. They paired the cortado with a delectable chocolate. The second you walk in the shop you get a sense of community. There is a large bulletin board to the right with local vendors and activities. The baristas welcomed the customers in front of me by name and knew one of their drinks. The shop is very open, full of natural light and plenty of seating. I have a feeling Gravel and Grind’s outdoor seating is plentiful during the warmer seasons. Merchandise like coffee, shirts and stickers are for sale. If you are a cyclist this is definitely a place worth checking out! Enjoying life one cortado at a time!

Tracy went above and beyond during every single interaction I had with her during our nearly 3 hour stay.

I am very fortunate to have come to Gravel & Grind. I came to the shop after a couple calls ahead with Tracy about my mom and I renting bikes from them, she answered all my questions and I was excited to come down! We told her we would be coming during a time frame.

When my mom and I walked in, Tracy greeted us with a bright smiling face and immediate attention and even called us by name. Tracy cares about the people who spend their time at her shop. I asked more questions about their selection and Tracy picked out a couple of bikes for us. After making sure all we were all set, she let us test out the bikes before charging us.

My mom ended up taking a bit of a spill and Tracy came to her aid as soon as she knew something happened, she showed genuine compassion and helped her with the first aid kit. Their selection of bikes is varied and fits the environment well. After trying out one bike for some time, I came back to try out another and she happily set me up with my choice and I was back riding in no time. Downtown Frederick is beautiful and riding around there is a joy whether you're riding on the streets or in the neighborhood. Tracy is a wonderful person and her Coffee shop is my new favorite place.

I could go on and on about how amazing my time was here, but then you'd spend more time reading this review and less time at Gravel & Grind, so please do yourself a favor and stop by as...
