Hello, I have never made a review before but want to start with this place I'm making the review 2 days late because I just got back home as I don't live near Fredericksburg, anyways I went Saturday while I was in the downtown area with family. Been here once before a couple months ago, but straight to the point the place is very clean, and looks very nice. It wasn't very busy at the time I went. They had a gentleman making waffle cones, which made the place smell amazing. When I went to order a young gentleman helped me. He was very friendly, and joked around with us as we ordered, when we asked about shakes he gave us recommendations of his favorite/combos which I thought was very nice. I think it was Nathan, not 100% sure but it started with an N. Name doesn't really matter but he was great same with other employees around, they are quick, persistent, very friendly, funny, and patient when ordering (as I did order a lot of samples :) . I got a waffle cone with Goat cheese, the waffle cone was a bit whiter than some others but it still tasted very good. We sat inside where it was very cozy, the music matched the vibe and overall it was amazing and will definitely come back to try different flavors. Overall, it is an amazing ice cream shop and in a great location in between 2 amazing restaurants (Mellow Mushroom and Harrys) . Yes prices were on the higher end, one thing that confused me is the flight. You can get 4 minis for the same price of getting a flight, there should be a difference in price or something. Everything else I don't really question just because of how expensive everything is in general. Now on to the flavors, what Nathan told us is there is seasonal flavors that will leave and comeback depending on the season, then flavors that stay which are called classics. He said I should come back for a flavor coming soon which is Banana Puddin as it is many employee and customer favorites . As of right now they have many good options some that I noticed and did try were strawberry, sea salt brickle, and in my opinion the best one was Blue Cow patty. Also for the Non-Dairy people there were 4 options Mint chip, Chocolate, Strawberry and a Peanut butter cookies and cream. I...
Read moreBlue Cow Ice Cream is clearly a very popular spot. When I visited, the place was packed with customers, which is always a good sign. Service was quick and friendly, and I ordered a two-scoop bowl of brown butter pecan with hot fudge and pecans.
While I enjoyed the visit overall, the flavor of the butter pecan was underwhelming. It tasted more like plain vanilla than the rich, nutty flavor I expected. My friends agreed it just didn’t have the depth of flavor that stands out.
For such a busy location, I think they could invest in some upgrades to really match their popularity. Right now, the hot fudge is microwaved in a plastic container and drizzled over the ice cream. A dedicated hot fudge dispenser, like the ones you see at places such as McDonald’s or Dairy Queen, would elevate the experience and feel more fitting for a shop with this much traffic.
At checkout, I asked about a military discount, but I don’t think the gentleman heard me. I’m not sure if this location offers one for veterans or first responders, but it would be a great addition if they did.
Overall, Blue Cow is enjoyable and clearly loved by the community, but the ice cream and setup didn’t quite live up to the hype. With a few improvements, this spot could really shine and deliver on the expectations that come with...
Read moreBlue Cow is the best. The ice cream is delicious. The shop itself is cutely decorated and well air conditioned. There is indoor and outdoor seating. They have consistent flavors as well are rotating/seasonal ones. My husband's favorite seasonal flavor is the snickerdoodle. They also have dairy-free ice cream, as well as gluten-free ice cream! They sell ice cream by the dish, cake cone, waffle cone, flight, and pint. They also have milkshakes. Their waffle cones are yummy and fresh. Oftentimes, when you go there, they're making waffle cones, so the shop smells immaculate. They're really on top of things and I think it's a great place to go and get some dessert! Very family-friendly (as ice cream shops usually are). Clean, spacious bathrooms. Quick payment options/mobile pay. They don't awkwardly pressure you to tip either, but I do because I want to. Overall, they rock. I might actually visit again tomorrow. Their sea salt brickle, cookies & cream, and chocolate brownie flavors are my favorite. I also appreciate that they have a mini sized serving option. It's great for when you want some ice cream, but not...
