This was the opening day/night at the Freehold, Raceway Mall location in New Jersey. It lives up to Kura sushi name. I will say the only difference between this location and the other locations (Edison being primary and is phenomenal in its own right) I’ve been to is this location does not have a liquor license. But that does not take away from the ambience, the food, quality, and the staff. This is going to be one of my new favorite locations especially if I am in the area.
Definitely come on an empty stomach because you will not be able to put your chopsticks down once you start eating.
All of the meals are reasonably priced with the sushi rolls being approximately $3.95 a plate. The size and quantity of rolls on a particular plate depends on what the dish is. I do recommend the salmon and tuna dishes as the sashimi, both cooked and raw, taste extremely fresh and very satisfying to the pallet. There are the standard Americanized rolls such as the California roll, the Philadelphia roll, spicy rolls as well as crunchy style tempura rolls. There are additional rolls that are on the menu that may not be rotating around on the conveyor belt however they will make them fresh for you at your table or at least delivered to your table via its own personal conveyor belt.
Note, I recommend downloading the Kura Sushi app so that you can earn points and get discounts or rewards. It is free to download out of the App Store.
The two images I have attached are of the snow crab as well as the Tamago rolls/Nigiri.
There is also a menu of Japanese/Asian style desserts...
Read moreA very fun experience. There's a good variety of sushi that revolves on the belt, along with a handful of sides (like watermelon, edemame, cucumbers), and and a few desserts. It's a little spendy because the plates add up fast and you only get 1-3 pieces per plate. Not all the rolls are always available on the belt either, but you can order them off the touchscreen menu at the booth, along with a decent amount of other non-sushi food. The sushi itself is great, always fresh and you can see the chefs in the back rolling and prepping the food. The drinks come out on a little robot waiter and menu items come on a conveyor belt above the sushi bar. For the sushi, you're charged per plate (at the time of writing, it's $3.95) and for every 15 plates, a gacha capsule is dispensed with a little prize, keychain or lanyard or something. It loses points because sometimes you end up waiting a few revolutions to see if they'll refill a certain type of roll, and I'm pretty sure there are a few that they only make during the dinner hours. I also think that ~$4 for 2 pieces of sushi is quite expensive, we spent about twice as much here as we typically do for sushi, but I understand you're paying for the experience. Overall I'm very impressed, and I look forward to coming back in the future (Oh, and they have 'electric toilets' as my kids put...
Read moreToday I went to Kura for the first time and it was a let down. I had heard such great things about them but it fell short of my other revolving sushi bar experiences. The food itself was decent but sushi was often room temperature or warmer even the ones we specifically ordered. The portions were pretty small. There wasn’t many options for special rolls that did have avocado which I am allergic to. We had hit the call for service button and waited for 5-10 minutes before someone had noticed. By that time I was no longer in the mood to see what I could order. This was also the first time a server had come to us at all during the experience even though when we were sat we were told a server would be right over to us. It seems like a nice idea but with other sushi places and sushi buffets in the area it offers nothing special other than...
