Restaurants in the US are renowned for their exceptional service. Massimo’s unfortunately does not live up to that standard…not in the slightest.
It was the three of us and we each ordered starters and mains. The raw oysters were decent. The fettuccine alfredo was a tad below mediocre in taste and in presentation. I’m sure I’ve had better at the University canteen many years back and don’t recall having a burnt taste to the chicken. Since I was hungry and finished the plate I’m going to be generous and give Massimo’s version a barely passing grade. My friend, who is a local, ordered the Linguini Vongole. I asked her midway within the meal why she was only eating the linguini and not the clams. She is usually not the type to make a fuss about anything. But she really disliked the so called “fresh clams”. Okay, this could be a mistake of clams being kept out for too long or just a bad batch. All can easily be forgiven. We brought this to the attention of the waiter who flagged down the “manager” who turned out to be the hostess. Rather than immediately attempting to correct the situation with the kitchen staff, she decided to blame the customer. “I’m sorry the clams weren’t fresh enough for you.” Never in my life have I felt so PATRONIZED. Despite the insult she offered to replace the dish with another, but still charged us full price nevertheless.
The waiter handed my friend a new menu and came several times within a 2 minute span to ask whether she has chosen her replacement. The third time he impatiently comes around and stood there like with his eyes locked in on her face, almost like a predator waiting to attack his prey. It made all of us feel very uncomfortable. She decided to order the Risotto to bring home and we made our way. A no point did the waiter apologise or thanked us and later on threw the bill on the table almost as if we were in debt to him. This is by far the worst experience I’ve had at any restaurant within the last 3-5 years. Would never come back even if the...
Read moreI had been looking forward to dining at Massimo's Restaurant due to its great reputation for food and ambiance, but unfortunately, my experience was tarnished by the behavior of the host, which left a sour taste even before we were seated.
From the moment we arrived, the host’s demeanor was shockingly unwelcoming. She spoke in a rude and dismissive tone, which felt, to be frank, borderline discriminatory. After abruptly informing us that “someone will take it from here,” she walked away without even showing us where to go, leaving us awkwardly standing and unsure of what to do. When I politely asked her why she was being so rude, she responded with an unbelievable comment: “You’re rude by appearance.” This was not only unprofessional but also deeply offensive and inappropriate.
Thankfully, the food and our server managed to salvage the evening. The dishes were fantastic, and the server was attentive, kind, and professional. The restaurant itself has a lovely ambiance, making it all the more disappointing that the front-line experience was so unpleasant.
For a restaurant of this caliber, it’s crucial to invest in better training—or better hires—for such a pivotal role. A host sets the tone for the entire dining experience, and sadly, this one failed spectacularly. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because this kind of behavior is unacceptable and doesn’t align with the otherwise high standards of the restaurant.
Overall, while the food and service were great, I hesitate to return unless the restaurant addresses this issue. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, ours was far...
Read moreIf I could leave a zero I would. First of all just got off work was going to have a nice dinner. Went to a restaurant in a strip mall thinking it would be a regular restaurant, it turns out it's trying to be a fancy restaurant. So we ordered a beer and we got our beers and we looked at the menu and realize they were trying to be a fancy restaurant. We decided to give them a chance anyway. We sat down and had our beers and looked over the menu and pick something out to order the whole time getting dirty looks from the staff. We decided what we are going to order and we ordered it the waiter asked us if we wanted a soup or a salad we decided. We got our soup and salad and that was okay. We got our main course & it look like half a serving. At this point I had finished my beer and was ready to order another, but in the six times that the waiter walked past me he didn't ask me if I needed anything. So I decided to try my meal, the first thing I tasted was burnt chicken. I decided to give it another shot the second I took taste like burnt chicken and ruined my appetite. I already wasn't happy with the portion I received and had planned on going getting something else to eat, and now I have no more appetite. It's not like I can't afford to eat here, I can afford to eat wherever the heck I want, but, when i got the check, they had charged an extra 10 bucks for soup! This was by far the worst dining experience I've ever had and if I could have given them a zero I believe I would have in a second. If you're looking for good food in Fremont don't go...
