TL;DR, my experience was poor, though the staff seemed chill. Can't recommend it.
Booked on hotels.com and requested an accessible room. The lobby/check-in building isn't immediately obvious. The entrance has a heavy door and the handicap function to open the door did not work.
Checking in took several minutes. The team seemed very unorganized. Not too professional but they were all friendly.
I'm disabled and ended up in a room that was farthest from the entrance. Fortunately, it was on the ground floor. Getting to it was a little confusing, similar to an apartment complex. There was glass on the ground outside the room.
I wasn't able to get my key to work or I had an issue with the door handle, not sure. I walked back to the front desk and one of the women followed me back to the room (she actually didn't even know how to get to it, which I found very strange). She was able to open the door fine - no big deal.
Next, we get into the room and there's an appliance dolly in the middle of the walkway. The fridge was pulled out (and not on/cold). There was a blower on the counter, as well as several other tools, work towels, and maintenance items. The front desk woman grabbed some of the items and took them out of the room and told me "He (maintenance) will be by shortly". No offer to bring in anything to clean up the counter or anything once the items were removed.
The room appeared clean otherwise.
Tried locking the door after and the lock wouldn't budge. I brushed this off, too, thinking that I could mention it when maintenance came by.
I REALLY had to use the bathroom so I went to the back of the room and found it. Definitely not accessible. I'm not in a wheelchair so I thought I'd let it go as it's only for a few days. I really wanted to relax but I didn't want to get comfy knowing someone was going to come into the room. I waited for around 30 minutes. Tried calling the front desk, who said they'd contact maintenance and call right back. Waited some more. Decided to go back to the front desk.
I try not to be too picky but I'd had a long week and I was already exhausted. They asked if there was a problem with my room. I noted the issues above. They apologized then told me they didn't know it was supposed to be accessible as I booked through "Expedia".
I asked if there was at least another room. I was told they were fully booked and couldn't accommodate me, then I got stared at. I shouldn't have to ask what my options are? Lol.
Ended up cancelling and handing back some laundry soap I'd bought (they later charged me for this and I ended up having to call for a refund; didn't appreciate the tone I got when she confirmed "so you want a refund for the $2?").
I told them I'd have to find a new place to go and they stared at me again. It would have been nice to have any suggestions for other hotels in the area, even other Marriott ones - hell, even a place to sit while looking for one myself.
I was directed to "Expedia" to get a full refund - fine. Had to play phone tag to get it processed.
All in all, my experience was frustrating and exhausting. I can't recommend staying here but I'm sure it's a fine/cheap option for those looking to stay for a...
Read moreIf this has happened to you PLEASE share your story. CRIMINAL ACTIONS BY MANAGEMENT I feel like a large chain like this should know better than to lock someone out of their room/residence for any reason when they are fully aware you are a tenant and not a guest. Well that's exactly what happened to me. I moved in with the intentions of this being my home for an undetermined time and paid for 31 nights in advance at the rate of $91.08 per night. After 42 days of on time payments, I attempted to pay for a several additional weeks and was told my new room rate would be $149.00, the next day to $159 and the day after $189 for a total of $497 for 3 days compared to the $274.24 I had been paying previously for 3 nights. I politexplained this was unlawful as I am not a guest, I am considered a tenant and am protected against sudden rental increases under California Civil Code 827 (b) and Fremont Civil Code 9.60.030. I was told by and have a recording of the general manager acknowledging to me that I am indeed a tenant and she would not allow me access to my residence until I provided payment. I explained this was not legal and if she did not allow me into my residence I would call the police. She then said, with a snide tone of voice, "ok..ok"! This is a gross violation of the Tenant Protection Act. Not only that but this is a misdemeanor criminal offense under California penal code 418. I then headed directly to the Fremont police station to report the crime that had been undeniably committed against me. I spent nearly 5 hours at the police station waiting to talk to an officer about the crime that was committed. Finally an officer came out. Before I even explained what happened he said something to the effect of " I just talked to management and explained they can't lock you out. That there are certain laws they need to abide by and they agreed to let you back in" I said great. Thanks. Now I'd like to file a criminal complaint against the general manager. I let him listen to the sort 3 minute recording. The moment he listened to the recording he said let me get you the case number.
I'm extremely distraught about this entire ongoing situation but I'm not about to back down from the legal battle no matter what the cost financially or mentally. I fully plan on doing whatever I can do within my legal rites to fight for my rites and expose this Residents inn for their unlawful business practices in relation to said ongoing matter. I'm hoping after this is investigated and I have all the documentation I need the local media will help me expose this matter in efforts to stop this from ever happening to anyone else. It won't be easy and it's won't be fast but it will happen. IF this has happened to you PLEASE...
Read moreI am a frequent Ambassador level guest at Marriott properties. My stays are for long periods which is why I like the Residence Inn which is supposedly designed for this type of traveler. This is a 1st generation property built with apartment style buildings containing the equivalent of apartments. The kitchens in the early generation are full including range/oven. Later generations only have a two burner stove top. This property also has the penthouse loft style apartments which are not suitable for someone who is mobility impaired but otherwise very nice and spacious with the upstairs loft bedroom/bathroom. First generation Residence Inn is by far my favorite to stay.||||Front desk is very sweet and helpful. I found the housekeeping never failed. It is always good.||||There are some negatives...||. Parking is seriously inadequate especially when they are catering to construction crews and their rigs that take up 5-6 spaces a piece. ||. Traffic noise is quite intense!! The property is immediately adjacent to a major freeway on ramp. I have had to pause telephone conversations waiting for motorcycles and other loud muffler vehicles to pass by so I can hear. I had to sleep with the TV on to help drown out the traffic noise.||. This area is close to the bay and salt water. The windows are obviously never cleaned. You can barely see out of them they are so filthy. Screens are missing or looking like they are about to fall off. Don't open them as there are wasps flying around them and you wouldn't want them in your room.||. Rooms are dated. They need to be renovated. My bathtub was so chipped. Spider webs all over the walls. Had to use some serious muscle to open the front door. It didn't hang quite right and tended to stick at the top.||. This property offers a limited breakfast but there are no evening social meals on either Monday or Tuesday.||. Pool is out of service and it doesn't look like there are plans to reopen it soon.||. There is a homeless encampment on the other side of the fence fronting against the freeway on ramp. I have also seen people walking around the parking lot. The area does feel a little risky though I can't say anything happened to me. I was just a bit worried.||||All in all, if you prefer the early generation Residence Inn with the full kitchens, fireplaces and penthouse loft suites, this one is adequate. If these things don't matter to you I think you can find a better property at a...
