I decided to wait for a week to write this review to see if maybe my opinion might change of this property. It did not change. Check-in process was excellent; the desk person was helpful and knowledgeable. I got my keys and was off on the hunt to find my room. I parked near the hotel lobby, so I needed to get in my car to find the right building. However, I don't recall seeing any building number that might have helped to eliminate my confusion. I noticed immediately, the property (room buildings) was surrounded by heavy iron fencing with remote key locks, I liked that, safety first in all cases. I eventually found the right building, again, the entry points into the room were with key locks (the buildings are separated by outdoor walkways). ||When I entered my room, OMG, I thought I was going to be knocked out from the smell. I kid you not, it smelled like a high school boys locker room and the odor of nasty FEET. UGH, it was terrible. I quickly checked the bathroom to see if there was some type of mold growing, I checked the refrigerator cabinet and the refrigerator to see if maybe some left over food had been forgotten. Under the bed, under the side chair. Nothing, I could find nothing tangible that would make the room smell that foul. The room was dusted, the bathroom surfaces appeared clean, but the carpet, I don't know about that. The bed was super uncomfortable, for me it was too hard, but this point was not considered in my review points. Mattress comfort is in the eye of the sleeper and is as individual as we are. The linens were crisp white, the sheets appeared clean, and I could find no unknown weird stains on any of the linens. That is a good thing. BUT, the linens smelled like 'industrial washer scent' and this isn't my favorite. I think the housekeeping staff needs to sanitize the washer and dryers every week to prevent the smelly residue build-up on the sheets and towels, it was very stinky. The shower, the floors were tile and slippery. There was an abundance of heavy duty grab bars strategically placed in the shower, so this prevented me from falling a couple of times. The water coming from the shower head, let's just say that a kids slip and slide game had more water that what was coming from the shower heads. Bring shower shoes and be safe. ||I noticed a grocery store across the street, so I immediately went over there to purchase some in room air freshener to plug into the wall. It helped some, not much. (I can still smell the room). I will forever do future travel with plugins I bring from home. ||Housekeeping was only done after a 3 might stay, so I didn't have housekeeping in my room. The front desk did mention that if I needed anything, I should reach out to them and I can get what I needed. There were 3 or 4 bath towels and that was plenty. I did need to empty the inside waste cans and there were no hidden extra bags inside the cans. Had to ask housekeeping and I got LARGE kitchen waste bags instead of the tiny waste can size. ||The patio (first floor) was nice, it looked directly out to the pool area, which seemed to be getting a lot of use. Lots of laughing and playing people, it was nice to watch and listen to them having a good time. The grounds were very nice, very clean and well maintained. ||I must admit knowing the hotel was full (I asked at check in if they were expecting a full house and was told yes) I didn't reach out to anyone for resolution. There was nowhere to move to. So, in all fairness, this review gets a 3 instead of a 2, based on that criterion. ||The breakfast was pretty terrific. There was staff monitoring the food levels and just as soon as one got to a certain point, they immediately went out and brought back steaming hot food. Scrambled eggs, country potatoes, mini waffles (made to order), sausages, biscuits, yogurt, toast, juice and probably more. Well worth the price of the hotel to stay there and eat well in the morning. Open hours until 9:30am, very respectable amount of time to get some food. (this was another directional UP star). ||Would I stay there again? No. It is an older property, it definitely needs some TLC and if a remodel is in the immediate future, I'd say start today and don't delay. Nobody wants to stay someplace that smells offensive and might not be as clean...
Read moreI just got back today from a two night stay at this hotel. I'm torn between giving it a two or three star rating. When I checked in the receptionist was very nice. She tried to find me a room, we booked for a quiet room, top floor in a King. We did check in an hour early and a lot of rooms were not cleaned yet, and that is understandable. She tried and found us one on the third floor with two queen beds. We accepted that with no issues.||The lobby was very clean, but unfortunately they don't have any vending machines on premises, but they had a few assortment of chips and a fridge with soda behind the check in counter. We made it up to the room, the second I opened the door there was the most disgusting odor I have ever experienced at a hotel. We walked in, the carpet was very dirty with deep down black stains, the chair was black with stains and the room was very warm. I lowered the AC to 68, that is as low as it goes, they are all set to not go lower. The smell was like three hundred people took their shoes off at once, it was that bad. I started looking under the beds, in drawers to see if someone left a pair of socks or clothing somewhere, no luck. Then the AC started blowing extremely cold, way below 68. I.calked the front desk and explained what was going on. I asked if we could be moved, the receptionist said no they were full and had no other rooms, EXCEPT the pet friendly building way at the back of the hotel. She said we would not like it, since the dogs are barking and such. So she said she would send the maintenance guy up. The maintenance guy came up and could not figure out the issue with the AC system. He called his boss and he could not figure out what it was doing. They ended up returning three times and could not fix it. I started getting nauseated from the smell and I couldn't stay in that room any longer.||I called the front desk and a very delightful woman named Melanie answered, she was the manager on duty. She said she was looking at her inventory and had no room to switch us to. She asked if she could bring housekeeping up to the room, I said absolutely. She shows up and again Melanie was extremely kind, and I know they were very busy, my room faced the front of the hotel and several construction trucks and big trucks kept coming in to check in. Housekeeping offered us an ozone machine of some sorts for the smell, I said let's give it a shot. It was a very old unit that did absolutely nothing, unfortunately. Then the Maintenance guy comes back and said he could not fix the AC. So, he called Melanie and said the room had to be switched. A few minutes later, amazingly Melanie gave me the key to a room three doors down.||When I opened the door, it was like a breath of fresh air, no odor and the room was clean, good working AC and no issues, even the beds were much more comfortable and newer. How that room opened up out of the blue was beyond me, but Melanie was an absolute professional and such a sweetheart to do whatever she did.||One last issue I noticed, was the pool area. It had seven lounge chairs and five had broken material and were unusable. It has a very large Chrystal clear pool and a hot tub in the back. Beautiful deck, but they need to upgrade those chairs and get new ones for people to sunbathe. I did notice the grounds were kept up amazingly well.||So, if you decide to stay here, make sure you insist upon a new renovated room the older ones need a lot of work. The carpets need changing amongst other things. Also parking can be very hard if you leave for dinner and come back. We kept our parking space and walked over to Denny's for dinner both nights. Which by the way was excellent.||I'm not sure if I would stay here again, considering there are so many options just over the freeway. Their main business seems to be truckers and kconstruction workers. Nothing wrong with that, but they need to take more care of their rooms. ||Thank you Melanie for doing whatever you could to make us comfortable. We...
Read moreThis Best Western garden gate suite motel lodge is not up to par at all they're understaffed and they're short with you they have the poor selection at the front desk of beverages and snacks also their ice vendor location is in a very bad spot it's just so happens it's in the middle of the second floor all the way on the other side of the hotel basically. The rooms are draining and gloomy is almost feels like it sucks the energy out of you the patios are short tacky and the phony fake there's no real border between the back patio and the rest of their sidewalk area that leads to their pool and spa. Their maid service is little to none there's no step on duty at night time and the one that is at the front desk isn't really trying to go out their way to help you or make you seem like you wanted there I tried to get help with my Wi-Fi free at that too Wi-Fi and they couldn't tell me whether or not to add the word room in front of the room number on the username and the password would be still the same I try this multiple different times with the help of the front desk in the getting really help me at all they told me to call customer support wow. Now trying to get extra items for my room like pillows and towels it was an arm and a leg I couldn't barely get extra towel I only got one extra towel and no extra pillow. And cherry on top the morning breakfast was joke the potatoes were dry and hard plus they were salty no pepper and a little undercooked or I bet I should have seen my crispy raw half dry burnt potato sausages seem like they were too tough and springy still like the casing hadn't been boiled long enough your eggs taste like plastic because they were powdered eggs with a real fast with a little bit of water and we'll mostly water in a little bit of milk . A joke about the morning breakfast is you could only go there one time to get what you want you can't go back to the morning breakfast and get another plate if you wanted to and I was just trying to get an extra coffee I wasn't even trying to get more food and they told me no shirt you're only allowed one breakfast per room the last couple of hotels I went to it was all you could eat morning breakfast and give all his poor service and mediocre catering to people with a crappy one time feed service on the morning breakfast for what $189 that is crazy expensive for crap I expected a lot better from you Best Western the one in Union City I paid $150 and I got way better and unlimited breakfast so I give this place one star all overall and I hope people see this so they don't go through the same tragedy I went through I was expecting to come here to sleep and recuperate a little bit I'm just having a stroke earlier this month and I get this poor service from Best Western garden gate thank you very much...
