My mom, my aunt, and I decided to go to Great Wall Buffet for a late lunch. Although there was a lot of food to choose from the service was HORRIBLE!!! We discovered hair in our food, and after calling this to the attention of our waiter he brought it to the attention of the manager who came over to our table, took the plate, and picked the hair out of it. He broke the hair in half and tried to convince us that this long strand of human hair was chicken hair. Clearly, hair that long did not belong to a chicken. It was a long black strand of human hair, and after being told that it was "okay" if we didn't wanna eat the rest of the food he took the hair from (I told him I was not going to argue with him over whether or not it was human hair and that I was not crazy I know what human hair looks like)... he told us that we could just leave (as in get out of my restaurant). I was appalled! I proceeded to tell him that what he was saying, and the way he was saying it was unacceptable to talk to the customers like that. Most of the time most managers will take the plate, apologize for the inconvenience, and try to do something to resolve the issue, as this was not the case. He continued to argue, and then threatened us with the fact that he was the manager (of which I told him I didn't care who he was, and that he could leave the table because I did not want to talk to him anymore at this point) and then he threatened to call the police. I informed him that I was not intimidated by him calling the police, so he could call whomever he wished to call. We had done nothing wrong...We were done eating, the waiter ( who politely apologized several times, and was shooed away by his rude manager for apologizing) had already taken two of the plates (my aunt's and I) as my mom was finishing her food on another plate, and we had already asked for the ticket so that we could pay. We were just about ready to leave when the police showed up. I flagged them down and let them know that I was still there, (I guess he thought threatening us with the police would make us leave. I took over the conversation because how dare he talk to my mother and my aunt in the manner that was attempted), and I explained the whole situation after which they said that once they get the call they have to come out, but they do not get involved with customer service issues. I had already explained to the manager before he even called the police that I was not intimidated by his threats. He stood at the podium where you first come in at and "eagle-eyed" us I guess to see if we were going to haul ass when the police came. The officers were really nice. We explained we were done, and there was no reason for the manager to call the police because it was not like we tried to leave without paying for the food or like we caused a big ruckus to where the police had to be called. The manager was just mad because we were not going to settle for his rudeness. We paid for our tickets quietly and we left quietly. Needless to say we will never return to Great Wall Buffet ever again that was the most horrible dining experience I have ever had at any restaurant list more than in Frisco, Texas. So I would advise anyone who is reading this review do not go to Great Wall Buffet unless you want the police to be called on you for standing up...
Read moreCame here with my friend for lunch as I remember liking this place in the past. In case someone doesn't know, this is all you can eat. Honestly, what can I say? It is another chinese buffet. Simple, but done right. I want to quickly address the two best things. One, atmosphere: the place felt clean, bathrooms included, the interior leans fully into theim Chinese theme, nothing felt neglected or outdated, and the place looks all the better for it. The buffet is also in the center of the spacious dining room. It's a bit of a more "upscale" look compared to most other Chinese buffets, as weird as that sounds. Then there is the service. It was wonderful. The hostess greeted us in a friendly tone as soon as we walked in and escorted us to a booth. The waitress was attentive without being pushy; she would quickly clear dirty tables and get us refills without us having to say anything. Compared to servers at some other buffets I have been to, she seems a bit better at reading tables. She also dropped the check at an appropriate time; it was not too early to make us feel rushed out but not leaving us awkwarding looking around for her.
Now, the food. One big thing, there is no "Mongolian grill." I grew up with those being a staple at Chinese buffets, so I was a bit disappointed. That said, I noticed some other buffets no longer have them, so maybe it's just a shift in the industry. Also, it has been a couple of years since my last visit, but I could have sworn that they had more diversity in offerings. For the most part, this place has the same stuff as other Chinese buffets in the area. Nothing too special, except maybe the ribs which seemed to be carved by someone as you order them. No comment, as I was too full to enjoy any, but I am sure they were great. Why? Well, despite my disappointment in the quantity of offerings, what they did have were all well prepared. As an example, the lo mein. Most buffets, they are dry and flavorless or become a mushy mess with the noddles combining. At this place, the noodles had perfect structure, great texture, as well as a good helping of the sauce. My friend noted that the workers here also seem to actually change out food on a regular basis, which is always good.
Anyhow, I left still believing this to be the best American Chinese buffet in the DFW area. It would be our go-to if I lived closer. I definitely recommend this place to...
Read moreWhen we got there at 9pm they politely told us that the buffet would be closing at 9:30. We said that 30 minutes should be plenty of time to eat. So we proceed as usual, to go grab some food, and they started cleaning. First they started running a vacuum, and kept checking the table to try and make us hurry up. It was the rudest experience I have ever had. They even started packing up the entire buffet at 9:25! Like stripped it completely bare within 5 minutes. WHILE WE WERE SITTING THERE!!!! Paying customers and it wasn't even 9:30!!! Most restaurants in this area stay open until 11 pm. I understand that they said they were closing at 9:30, but they did not say that the buffet was closed and they would have all the food completely put away gone before 9:30 pm. Running a vacuum while customers are sitting there having dinner to get them to hurry up is outrageous. This experience made me so angry I will never return. We left last night at exactly 9:30 pm.
This was not the first experience of rudeness I have had with this restaurant. Last Monday I took my son there as a treat. It was around 2:50 pm. When we walked in I was told that time that they would be charging me dinner price. It wasn't even 3 o'clock! The additional cost per person was insulting, but since I had told my son it was a treat for good behavior I had to stay and pay it. It is not the money, but rather the policy. There were many people in the restaurant eating, and I actually saw a sign on the buffet under a dish that said "dinner only". So that one dish was put out for dinner paying guests and they expected the late lunch crowd not to eat it. How Rude! I was a dinner paying guests and my first thought was "now that's offensive."
I gave this restaurant Two stars because the food is delicious and fresh. The policy in which they treat customers is horrible. There was no sign to indicate specifics about times, foods plus shutting down, cleaning and rushing customers is vile and rude! Especially when doing so before the time you stated. Their customers should come first. They will do poorly and lose many customers if their store policy continues in...
