I've tried In 'N Out before. When the fast food chain first arrived in Fort Worth half a dozen years ago, I was told, by many Californians, that In 'N Out was the Whataburger killer. I tried it and wasn't impressed. While there were all the signs of quality there, it wasn't anywhere near the quality of Whataburger. I said that In 'N Out was about as good as Wendy's. I was wrong about that last part.
Today we're reviewing In 'N Out again, because everyone deserves a fair shot and the national obsession with the franchise is overwhelming. Much like the Nightmare Before Christmas and Final Fabtasy VII, it's the fans of these things that ruin everything, overhyping the experience and ultimately causing bitter dissappointment to taint what would have otherwise be a happy outing.
I ordered the Double Double and the fries, both "Animal Style". My drink, this time, remaining a modest Dr. Pepper. The shakes at In 'N Out, are not subject to scrutiny, they're good enough that I don't need to re-review them.
When we wntered we were greeted and served with a smile. Everyone on staff was courteous and attentive. I tried the fries first. The sauce was very good but the grilled onions were so plentiful that they overpowered literally everything else in the fry tray. As I worked my way past the initial layer of onions and sauce, these got progressively better. Lightly salted, the fresh-cut fries were a little soft but that's to be expected.
The burger was an accordion of fresh garden and the "Animal Style" toppings. This makes for something that looks delicious and, frankly, beautiful, but the reality is that it also makes it harder to eat. I'm no stranger to messy burgers, many of my favorite restaurants leaving me covered in grease. That, however, is not what I expect from a fast food burger. This is neither good nor bad, but if I'm thinking about going through the drive-through, this is something I'll have to consider.
Otherwise, the sandwich tasted fine. I could taste each ingredient and the bun did not fall apart. The patty fell apart but the bun did not. The sauce neither helped nor hindered the taste of the sandwich and the grilled onions only slightly improved the flavor.
Is In 'N Out better than Whataburger? Not in my book. Whataburger does a better job of seasoning their food, offers more variety if products, and offers better condiments. Is In 'N Out better than Wendy's? Way better. The food is higher quality and, despite lacking chicken options, offers a better experience.
In 'N Out has a decent thing going, but it does not live up to the hype. The price point is perfect, the service is fantastic, the burger is mediocre, but the ingredients are the tops. They receive a...
Read moreWe were In-n-Out today after an absence of a few weeks with part of our family. As always, tables were cleaned quickly, our order was taken and filled remarkably fast, despite the after church rush. It is always so nice to see the variation of people: families; couples; and folks grabbing a burger for themselves. It's the perfect atmosphere of community. There is a ballet of waiting for a table, especially during busy times, but there is a spirit of sharing spaces, sometimes offering a seat to those who wait for your table as you finish, or a mom lets another family know there is a spot opening up for them. The offer of an extra chair to enable a booth for five, in a range of ages and stages of life. While there is the overarching, expected Texas civility in Frisco, the same community spirit was exhibited in the SoCal location we frequented years ago. Honestly, it seems to exude from the basis of the company's values. For a few minutes, we can enjoy good food, friendly service, community, and remember when it was the norm in our society. When stickers and a paper hat made a kid's day, where you could strike up a conversation with a "neighbor" at a nearby table, extend a hand, share a smile with another grandparent over the exuberant toddler rattling off their adventures of the day. Thank you In-n-Out, for fostering a place where you can get so much more than a great burger!
In-n-Out, a proven 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐but we were there at lunch time on Sunday, and it did not matter that the line was to the doors, still amazing on all counts. We are used to ordering due to our former location, and despite numerous people in our party, special orders (because who doesn't love a mustard fried, double double with whole, or regular grilled onions, with mustard and chilies instead of spread, along with well done fries!). The tables were kept clean despite everyone sitting inside due to the drizzle, tables were being swooped immediately, but associates kept things tidy. Diana is a frequently seen face at the register and she is a pro at taking the most complicated order with patience, even if the customer has to stop to make sure they left off, or added everything. Orders were churned out like a well oiled machine, politely taken, and by the time we left the line was longer. The only thing that would be better would be a location closer to Prosper. Until then, we look forward to any chance to eat an amazing burger, made and delivered quickly, efficiently, along with...
Read moreDouble Double: 4 out of 5 burps! Well I must say! It seems as though my first experience for IN-N-OUT (which was in Phoenix for a business trip) was NOTHING like it was here in Texas! When I heard that they were coming to Texas I was all like, "So?". Then the news reports of people waiting days before opening and then later 3+ hours just to get one I was like, "You people are F'n crazy! Those burgers taste no better than McDonald or maybe Wendy's at BEST!" So now that it's been over a month since they opened I figured that I would give them a try again, just to see if the same holds true with regards to quality and taste. My wife had gone the day before and said that the lines are still long, but they have a directed drive thru system that seems to work. That was my queue to attempt the daring "Lunchtime Grab and Go"! I figured I could be "in and out" (pardon the pun) and back to work all within 1 hour...and indeed I did! So here you have it. I got 1 Cheese Burger and 1 Double Double. I have no idea what style, nor do I care. Give me the damn burger with everything on it, minus tomato...filthy foul fruit! Onions...YES I WANT ONIONS! What the hell kind of question is that? What, you people in Cali don't believe in onions? So here's what I got, right there in that picture. So I make it back to the office and grab the ol cheese burger, take a bite and BAM! WOW, this actually taste pretty good? Finish that up and go hit the Double. Just like Jules in Pulp Fiction...mmmm that issss a tasty burger. I sit looking at my now empty wrapper wondering what happened? I ponder for a while, why so good? Then I remembered. PHOENIX! Ah yes, Phoenix. Nothing of any worth has come from Phoenix. Land of the online collage, call centers and dry heat. I guess the same should hold true to the food? So my opinion of IN-N-OUT, Texas = GOOD! Phoenix = Just like everything else in that state, HORRIBLE! I say go get one. Hell get two, tell the Aaron sent you! They won't know what you're talking about, but it's sure to get you some funny looks. Maybe there's an Aaron of some high status within IN-N-OUT and you will get something? If so, please let me know so I can use my name to also...
