The adage "don't judge a book by its cover"âthat one should not assess something or someone solely by their appearanceâseems particularly apt in this instance. Recently, I visited a cafĂ© with a friend and we were having a pleasant time when, around 6:45 p.m., we decided to wait for our rides inside the cafĂ© for an additional 10-15 minutes, given that the cafĂ© typically closes at 7:00 p.m. The weather outside was dreadful, with heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds, and our ride appeared to be delayed, likely due to these adverse conditions. The manager then approached us and, with an alarming lack of courtesy, informed us that the cafĂ© had already closed. Despite our polite request to remain for just 5 more minutes until our ride arrived so that we could quickly get into the car, she brusquely refused. Even with the storm raging outside, she insisted we leave immediately, showing a complete disregard for our situation. We only requested to stay near the main entrance due to the weather, yet she treated us with such disdain that we felt like an inconvenience. We were essentially forced out into the rain, standing there until our ride, fortunately, arrived after a delay equivalent to the time we had asked for. The cafĂ©âs website proudly claims to be dedicated to changing lives and delivering outstanding customer experiences. Is this truly how they treat customers caught in such dreadful weather? It is particularly striking given that they profess to teach Scripture and the teachings of Jesus Christ. In my extensive experience as a clergy member and high-ranking priest with multiple degrees, I have never encountered any Scripture that endorses such ill-treatment of others. It is inconceivable that such shabby service would be extended to anyone, let alone a clergy member, by a place that claims to uphold...
Read moreAs a Christian I was so excited to visit this little book and coffee shop thatâs minutes away from where I live! I think itâs a rest idea for like minded people as well as people in all walks of life to be able to come together under one umbrella to enjoy 3 of lifeâs joys⊠Christ, coffee, and a good book. My coffee was good, I like that they have merchandise to purchase for Bible studies (books, study guides, highlighters, journals, etc.), they even sell candles. However, as a BLACK Christian woman I was extremely disappointed by the lack of diversity in the authors in the store. There were no big name (or small name) black authors in the store except for Tony Evanâs. No TD Jakes, Sarah Jakes Roberts, Tim Ross, Priscilla Shirer, Dharius Daniels, Jerry Flowers, Keion Henderson, Stephanie Ike, Derwin Gray, Mike Todd, Jackie Hill-Perry, etc⊠Hundreds- thousands of books and vastly no minority authors was extremely disappointing. I did bring it to the attention of an employee who said she would bring it up to the owner. I went back a month later and didnât see anything different. The same employee also thought that I didnât know the authors there because I was âyoungâ (Iâm 30), but the reality was that I wasnât familiar with majority of the authors because Iâm black and grew up in diverse churches. I would love to see some diversity implemented here, as well as some cultural sensitivity training to the staffâŠthe idea of a Christian book shop is really a great idea if...
Read moreThis is a really neat place and I foresee spending much time here over the coming years. As a newcomer to Frisco, we had been hoping to find a place like this that was not too far from where we live. My wife and I drive by this location practically every Sunday on our way to church and finally decided to stop by and check it out. It is much bigger than it appears from the outside. We are not coffee drinkers, but there are plenty of other drink options beyond the assorted coffees that are offered. There are also plenty of food offerings, making this a great place to meet friends for lunch or bible study. I must confess, I often dreamed of opening a bookstore just like this one and felt like I was walking into my dream store. In my dream, however, I only played classical or other instrumental music in the background. The vocal music being played this afternoon was a little distracting for me as I read the book I had purchased. Anyway, I will be telling all of my friends about it and wish you...
