Down Home Comfort Bakery — Restaurant in Front Royal

We purchased pies and mini whoopie pies from Down Home Comfort Bakery to serve as our wedding dessert. Not only were they absolutely delicious (we had no whoopie pies left at the end of the night!) but we also had a wonderful experience working with the owner, Maureen. When we visited for a tasting last year, she had tons of options prepared and sent us home with extras. She was responsive and flexible when we had to postpone our wedding due to COVID and very kindly delivered the desserts to our wedding caterer, who was also located in Front Royal, at no charge. The pies and whoopie pies are also very reasonable priced compared to other bakeries we looked at in the DC area. It was exactly what we wanted for our wedding and the experience couldn't have been more seamless. We'll definitely be stopping by whenever we're in Front Royal! Photos by Chelsea Diane...

Had a bit of a snafu with the online ordering — their online ordering platform lets you order full pies for same-day pickup, which I thought was odd but ordered anyway and when I arrived they explained that they wouldn’t have it ready until tomorrow, and they’re working on getting the ordering platform to let them note that same-day isn’t always an option with pies. That was not a problem for me at all and I happily picked up my pies the day after! Got a chocolate meringue pie and a small lemon meringue pie and both were delicious — everyone working was also very friendly, and the inside had lots of jams, sodas, and other baked goods! Just make sure to give them enough time to actually make your pies and don’t repeat...

Down Home Comfort made a cake and 60 mini cakes for my wedding. They were so incredibly kind and easy to work with! We went with the strawberry lemon cake and red velvet, lemon, carrot cake, and white minicakes and they all were so delicious! Their lemon cakes were my absolute favorite and one of the owners will gladly brag that his wife uses real lemon, not lemon extract (which was adorable) and it honestly showed in the flavor. What an incredible treat! It was second only to the strawberry lemon cake which was the most delicious cake ever! I highly recommend them and will definitely buy from them again! They're wonderful people with incredible offerings. I can't thank them enough for what they provided for...
