Used to be good - but has really declined in the past year or so. The food itself is still okay (it was never fantastic, but usually solid), but customer service is bad.
A few months ago I tried to go and after 10 minutes of waiting for a menu after being seated we gave up and ended up walking out. More recently I decided to try a pickup order via their online Mealkeyway system. The system told me ETA 15-30 minutes. I arrived 30 min later and I had to wait for many minutes for someone to acknowledge I was standing there - despite one staff person at the register with another customer and several servers passing by. They were pretty busy (3 tables inside and another 4 outside with guests, but a decent number of takeout orders as well), so I didn't begrudge a wait to be helped, but it's kind of nice to be acknowledged at least so you know you're not just being ignored. I got my food at the 55 min mark (again, not a horrific wait time for a pickup order, but waaay off the mark from the ETA the system gave me, so beware of that if you plan to use the system). Hanging out in the restaurant for 25 min got me a bit grouchy.
Also, for those health-conscious folks out there, none of the wait staff here wear masks. It'd be nice if they did so even just because they're working with food, but no.
Overall, food is so so, so I still give Try Thai 2 stars, but when I go out to a restaurant half the appeal is in the experience, and the shoddy customer service here makes it not worth the trip, even for a...
Read moreThis Review is based on today only. The other couple of times that we ordered from Try Thai, They were a solid five. Today, I can’t explain my disappointment. It’s clear that whoever was in the kitchen today, should never be allowed in the kitchen again! First of all, the Pad Thai noodles lacked in peanut flavor completely and interestingly the noodles weren’t their typical yellow color. Secondly, the Chicken satay came without peanut sauce which I could have lived with however the satay itself was way, and I mean WAY, over-cooked, to the point it was inedible, however my dog loved it which is great but it wasn’t intended for her. The steamed Dumplings were crispy? The “coconut soup” I can’t put my finger on quite what the issue was, however it lacked in lemon grass flavor almost completely. I rarely order out, and was very excited to order today from Try Thai based on my previous experiences which have been great. I went all out today having waited for my “go to” solidly great Thai food. Instead for $66 was served solid disappointment. I hope they read this review and realize they need to stick to the people who know how to cook this cuisine. Whoever was in the kitchen today, has not a clue as to what they are doing. I have cooked Thai food myself before and it came out much better. The only dish which was still really good was the...
Read moreWe visited Try Thai located in Front Royal Virginia. This restaurant has changed ownership since we last visited and the food is quite different. I had my favorite Thai dish, which I used to frequently have at this restaurant under the previous owners. This dish is basil fried rice with a fried egg on top with an appetizer of chicken satay.
To start off the chicken satay was absolutely wonderful and exactly the same as it has always been.
The basil fried rice however, had a different texture to it than any other Thai restaurant that I've been to. Do you know those bags of instant rice that you get where the rice is kind of squishy? That's what the rice was like, unlike traditionally being fried rice even though it's a fried rice dish. This uniqueness really made the dishes texture rather unpleasant even though the taste and spice was fairly tasty.
The staff is very friendly and responsive.
This section of Front Royal is typically LGBTQ friendly and this restaurant is no exception. The single person bathrooms are clean and feature...
