I visited this past Tuesday totally enjoyed my experience so I thought I would drop my review. I was surprised to not see all 5 stars. It was highly recommend by many ( have you tried the pub yet) so I took the time to read the non-5 star reviews. All said the service was outstanding and it was true the service was fantastic! The food was good and that also true. I ate every bite, I was so full when I left! The place was clean the cut of meats were high quality. Not even the bad reviews had anything negative about the actual restaurant , staff, atmosphere, nothing that warrants a bad review. They zoned in on cost with the comparison of chain restaurants. I expected to pay a little more for the historical area. What I didn’t expect was the friendly accommodations that were given, like they really did appreciate my business. Wow I felt like this would be my place to go if I didn’t live in North Carolina! I was visiting my brother & sister Inlaw who I know will now be frequent customers. I like these people, I like the history of the decorations, I like the food, I liked the temperature they kept the room, I liked everything about this place! Then they came up to the table and said pick a number on Tuesday’s you can roll the dice if the number you pick comes up the whole table will be free! There were 5 of us so that was a risk for them. We picked 9 but rolled 4 so no we didn’t win but it sure was fun thinking we might!! So back to the cost. You get what you pay for. I’m sure those customers would not enjoy a 3 star rating on the job they do. IF they do the best at their trade in town! Nor would they want a pay cut to get people to like them. I guess they do not understand....
Read moreThe atmosphere is great. Typical "pub" style atmosphere. Attended a birthday party with 13 guests with all couples paying separately. One lady orders three drinks that were all upsized to "doubles" without saying they were and two other drinks brought to two other people were the same "double" without saying. Three guests were charged a different price other than what was on the menu without being told the price was different. A group gratuity was added to everybody's 13 separate tickets for 28%. I'm not familiar with what the going rate for a standard gratuity is for a group but credit card interest rates seem a little excessive. The service was good considering how busy they were, the food was good for the most part, the atmosphere was perfect but the underhanded charges at the end of the evening just set everyone off. The tip would have more than likely been more than what the waitress did end up getting had she just been upfront about the prices. Overall the good evening was ruined by having to fight for a fair bill at the end of the night. On a side note, if this had been the Pub of previous ownership, if someone would have had three doubles they more than likely would have had to get a ride home. We were greatly disappointed by the end of it all that we will most likely never return and will not recommend this establishment to...
Read moreWent here with a buddy for dinner back in 2015. i'll definitely be coming back if I ever end up in Gainseville again. I had the 16oz NY Strip and it was good. The sides were good and the cobbler with ice cream was legit. My buddy enjoyed his meal as well (he had a steak).
I feel like the list of appetizers could be improved upon. None of the appetizers stood out as something that I was really interested in getting. We ended up getting the Spinach Artichoke dip and it was fine but nothing spectacular. I'll try other appetizers in the future but in general think they should revamp the appetizer list.
The crowd is very Gainesville casual. Definitely not the type of sophisticates you will find at a comparable place in Dallas. It was pretty busy on a weeknight and everyone seemed very friendly. The decor isn't anything spectacular but overall the place is nicer than I expected. People who are complaining about the price should probably go for lunch as those prices looked quite reasonable. I personally found the steak prices to be perfectly acceptable. Sure, it may be expensive for Gainesville but there simply aren't many places in Gainesville to eat a quality meal like this. I'm used to Dallas prices so the cost was...
