We visited this restaurant strictly due to the reviews and having a high overall rating. My wife loves tex-mex/mexican food and this place seemed like a hit. However, the moment we arrived, there were certainly some red flags. The large sign that indicated that you seat yourself, with 5:00PM only having one other group of folks there, and the two Servers in the very back having a conversation to themselves, sitting at a booth.
We were brought the typical chips & salsa, and to be frank the salsa was great. Tasted homemade, like they had their own recipe and we were excited. It took roughly 10 minutes for our server to return to our table to ask if we were ready to order after providing us with menus, chips & salsa. With a menu having roughly 4 pages, there's certainly not that much time needed to pick out an entree/appetizer. We ordered the an appetizer (mixed nachos of beef & chicken) and my wife asked for the beans to come on the side. In less than 2 mins, the food was brought to our table, and the beans were "built" into the nachos, under the cheese. Further inspecting the cheese, it appeared to have either been microwaved or prebuilt platters of nachos are just immediately ready. To think that 2 portions of chicken, cooked beans take that little time is a little odd, to say the least. Comparing the time it took to obtain our order and for our food to come to our table is certainly eyebrow raising. Our nachos also came with a tablespoon of guac & sourcream each, and roughly 8 chips for $12. 8 chips, 2 servings of chicken & beef, microwaved-appearance melted cheese, and beans was $12. We also ordered 2 Corona's, which were cold. I guess we should be pleased with that.
To top off the experience, I needed to visit the facilities, which from the moment you enter the restroom there felt an immediate increase of about 15 degrees in temperature. The male bathroom opens with a toilet facing the door -- open, and a urinal with 6 oddly placed aerosol cans throughout the room, and a hand washing station where the soap dispenser is placed level with the sink. A sink which can barely fit a pair of hands without touching the bottom of the bowl where the STUFF you're washing is going to hit. Who in the actual hell is operating this establishment? Why the aerosol cans everywhere? Why a urinal & toilet that's both open? And why is the temperature at the point of breaking out a sweat by stepping into the damn room?
I just...
Read moreWe had been going to Mi Casa since we moved to Gainesville in August 2020 and had loved the atmosphere (Donna, a waitress at the time, who was wonderful) and the food. But about a month ago I discovered they charge people an extra fee for not paying in cash. I do understand that the Credit/Debit card companies charge a processing fee however I have not seen this fee passed on to Customers so blatantly showing up on the receipt.
We went back there this afternoon to try it again and they still do the same thing. We started going to El Tapatio instead due to this extra fee, However else happened Tio near our house was closed. So today I made a point of mentioning this fee and asking about it and telling them that nobody else does this they didn’t seem to care. I told him that we will not be going back to Mi Casa And that they have lost a customer over this small issue. It’s not so much the extra fee they charge as it is minimal but it is the point of the matter that upsets me. No more Mi...
Read moreGood location in small shopping center off East Highway 82 in Gainesville, Texas. This location has come a long way since the day it was orininally opened. Chips and salsa are plentiful and drinks are in larger size cups. The service is good and you are checked on frequently which is a huge plus with me. Lunch and dinner are always pretty busy and the lunch specials are great! No complaints at this location and a great place to meet friends. A little hard to find if this is your first time here. The loction when 1st seen doesn't seem like much but once your in your treated like family. The owner is on location and makes her way around to ensure your food and service are both good. Plenty of seating, the restrooms are ok. There is additional space in the back for private parties and adult beverages are served at this location. If you haven't been there come give them a try, you will not be disappointed. This is a local hot spot and that hole in the wall that is as locals best kept...
