Description: Legend be told, Steamers was apparently this awesome place a little while back where students and residents of Gainesville alike would come and enjoy a good bite to eat. Unfortunately, I was unable to experience any of this; however, it might not be a bad thing after all. I read an article that Ken Eats Gainesville wrote about this place called Steamers reopening in Bo Didley Plaza and I knew it was fate... Actually that's not true. When I first heard the name, I instantly thought about this awful place back in my hometown and thought they were the same restaurant.
Food & Service: Getting a little off topic, anyways, I went with a friend just last week to go and check the place out myself. I was thrown off when their menu consisted of fried rice and curry with woks lined up in plain view. Apparently the name comes from steaming their burgers but the fried rice and curry seem to be more popular. Steamers is also considered vegetarian on Yelp, just a tad confusing in my opinion. Despite the confusion, I appreciated their water dispenser and outside seating. This is definitely the kind of place you could bring your friends to hang out and eat on one of their benches. The food took a little longer than expected but the portions were huge! Unless you're starving, you'll probably need a box. Price was very reasonable, we paid about $8.00 or $9.00 each. My friend ordered the fried rice which was pretty flavorful and cooked well. I ordered the curry with tempeh. I was told their tempeh was pretty awesome and I wouldn't disagree. Note that this was my first time having tempeh though lol.
Final Thoughts: All in all, good place to stop by and eat! I'll be back and probably with a group of friends this time since the outdoor seating gives a nice catch up, get together feeling. I also want to give their steamer...

I've been on an epicurean expedition to unearth the ultimate taco, and I've discovered the X marks the spot right in Gainesville's Munecas Downtown Taco Garden. Picture a charming little nook, brimming with whimsical decor, situated smack-dab in the historic downtown area, cozy and inviting, right by the community plaza.
But hold your sombreros, it's not just about the enchanting ambience. The food! With an audacious Asian fusion menu side-by-side with a tantalizing spread of curries, it's as if the East and West shook hands over a tortilla! Truly, the gastronomic embodiment of the Trans-Pacific Partnership!
My order of the day? Wok tacos! An Asian-infused twist to the locally caught fish taco combo that had me performing a conga line right there! The tortillas were an immaculate treat, each bite transporting me to a mystical realm where corn tortillas are treated with the respect they rightfully deserve - well-cooked, warm, and inviting.
Ventured on to sample their Whole Chicken Taco. Another stellar performance that would make even the snootiest of poultry critics cluck in approval.
And let's taco 'bout their hot sauces, handcrafted in-house with a choice of four different types. While three tended towards the sweeter side (not quite my salsa but hey, variety is the spice of life, right?), the green verde sauce was an absolute delight. Not as hot as I usually like, but with such zesty flavors, I barely missed the extra heat.
The fusion of flavors at Munecas is an exhilarating ride, making every bite an adventure. So if your travels take you to Gainesville and you miss out on Munecas, you'd be skipping a whole theme park of taco delights. So don your sombrero, embrace the adventure, and embark on this five-star taco...
