As a lifetime resident of Chicago I am very used to the fast paced hustle, and bustle of urban life and so I thoroughly enjoy the small city charm that Galesburg offers. My mornings frequently include stops at local coffee joints for my caffeine fix. So I have tried, in my short time in Galesburg (two weeks), every place that serves coffee. Grocery stores, bakeries, cafes, etc. With this small repertoire of experiences in local coffee places I feel VERY CONFIDENT to say that Innkeepers has literally the worst coffee, pastries, chai, and hot chocolate in this county. Everytime I have been to Innkeepers, I have been let down. I try to visit an establishment more than thrice to ensure an accurate sample of data, Innkeepers being no exception. Watered down iced chai, ghostly coffee with absolutely no body, peppermint hot chocolate that tasted purely of peppermint, danish that compensates it's lack of flavor and freshness with icing, sugar, and struessel; I have no words left to describe the utter disappointment I've had with this company's beverages and food. Innkeeper's harsh lighting nicely complimented by their orange/yellow walls to make certain that your eyes will be thoroughly burned at any hour of the day. This might work for the company, however, because their insistence on paper cups, bad ambiance, and bad coffee ensure their customers can come and go; Hopefully never to return. I know I will never be back. And so when I leave quaint Galesburg tomorrow morning I will be drinking coffee in the Cafe Car on the Amtrak, where a train company somehow has better joe than a place that roasts...
Read moreMy wife and I were having a lunch date and had an absolutely TERRIBLE experience. We were clearly there for lunch, but waited to order until we had enjoyed our coffee and a small piece of cheesecake for a few minutes while talking. We went to order food at 2:03 and they refused to make it saying the kitchen closes at 2pm! Okay, I get policies but if the kitchen closes at 2, the staff hasnât left right at 2. I mean had I ordered at 1:59 they would have served me. Did that 4 minutes really make a difference? Not to mention we were the ONLY people in the place. If you really have to have such a crazy policy as that, perhaps a simple courtesy âHey we just wanted to let you know our kitchen closes at 2 if youâd like anything elseâ would have avoided the whole situation. On top of this, the staff were adamantly trying to make excuses for this policy. Even if you disagree with us, we donât need you telling us how weâre wrong (which weâre not...weâre your only paying customers during that time period and youâre refusing our money? Do you want to stay in business or what?) Weâre not sure weâll be back. You pay overpriced prices for the pleasant experience which that was anything but. Iâd be treated better at Starbucks than that.
Edit: 9 months later and not even an acknowledgment much less an apology. Tells you all you...
Read moreWe visited Innkeepers in Galesburg with a big group of 10, including children, on a Saturday morning. As expected, it was quite busy. We ordered at the counter, took a number, and found a table together. A few of our meals and coffees came out late or were missing at first, which I think is understandable given the size of our group and the weekend rushâprobably a bit more volume than they can comfortably handle at peak times.
That said, the staff was wonderful and did their best to accommodate us. They were attentive, friendly, and quick to make things right. The food was absolutely delicious, and the coffee was great as well. Despite the hiccups, the overall experience was very positive.
I would recommend Innkeepersâitâs definitely one of the nicer coffee shops in town, with a warm atmosphere and great menu options. Perfect for smaller groups or a casual morning out, and still worth visiting with a big party if...
