My first time ever leaving a Google review I wasn’t solicited for. Place was GREAT. I went in expecting a horrible experience (not going to lie. Expressed this to the waitress later on as well lol). But the reality is assuming is always the worse and you can never replace feeling like the meal I just ate was worth every dollar! I can see it getting packed and bad reviews coming from that because you can’t please everybody!……We sat down after being told we could sit anywhere. We were immediately greeted by the waitress with a smile and given our menus. It wasn’t crowded but it was empty either. After ordering our food a situation happened where the owner asked us if we didn’t mind moving tables because a reservation party complained about being in the wrong location. The look on his face said everything lol reminded me of the comedian Robin Harris. He was frustrated but knew he had to be nice lol no fault of his own because my kid even said they where being to loud but he didn’t want to disrupt their experience and he threw in some crab cakes for us. That’s where 💩 got real! It was two crab cakes. Crunchy on the outside but filled with nothing but “juicy crab meat”(my daughter lol) on the inside. I’d go back just to order those. I purposefully didn’t order any fried food because not everyone fries the same and I didn’t want that to ruin trying something else. So I got the flounder and shrimp grilled, with sweet potato fries and yellow rice. Everything on my plate made me not want to leave a review just out of fear to many people will be there next time and the prices will go up 🤣🤣🤣 My fish was flaky juicy and not over seasoned. Shrimp was juicy and not chewy. The sweet potatoe fries I’ve never had made better than these and everyone at the table who despises them normally, couldn’t say any different. They had the waffle cut with with the perfect amount of crunch, airy, and somehow didn’t have that “to much sweet potato” bite. The yellow rice was perfect! Honorable mention goes to the grits my family had. Definitely planning to go back...
Read moreI was pleased to see another new restaurant in Garden City. I visited this establishment during lunch. First off, the restaurant is staffed with the sweetest, most friendly people I've ever met. I decided on the lunch house salad with salmon. It's a rare person who can perfectly cook salmon that is juicy, flavorful, and succulent. Kudos to the chef. He or she made me think of the old expression - it was slap ya mama delicious. Well, my Mom wasn't nearby, so I was content to savor every bite of this delicious, ample portion of salmon minus the violence.
The house salad, while generous and very fresh, was a little lacking. I tend to expect house salads to stand out because they represent the house - the restaurant itself. It would be awesome if the chef would consider some options that I feel would really make the salad stand out - mixed spring greens, arugula, spinach, thinly sliced red onions, kalamata olives ir a house-made olive salad or tapanade, and a house-made dressing. It would be great if these kinds of toppings comprised the salad or offered as add-on options to jazz things in a bit. I also received a refill of water in a glass that had greasy residue. While I won't hold this against them because every new establishment has growing pains, I do hope that this is something that attention will be given to.
Oh, and another thing I think will be a great consideration is to offer a basket of fresh made rolls, cornbread, or biscuits with house-made jam or local honey.
All on all, I had an enjoyable visit. I had the privilege of speaking to both the GM and the owner, and I wish them all the success in the. I...
Read moreI generally don't like writing bad reviews. However, my experience with Flavors Kitchen was less than stellar. So at first glance, the restaurant is very cozy and has a nice atmosphere for cathing the game or kick back after a long day at work. I ordered a strawberry margarita on the rocks and chicken and shrimp Alfredo. The drink that came to me looked nothing like a margarita at all. It had some weird looking foam that resembled vomit on the top of the glass. Needless to say, I didn't drink it and sent it back. Our waitress/ bartender was cool about it and removed the drink from my tab. My friend ordered the salmon dinner with yellow rice and parmesan broccoli. When the food arrived, it wasn't fresh. The yellow rice was hard and crunchy and parmesan broccoli was dashed with grated parmesan cheese from a can. The Alfredo sauce was basically jar sauce found in a grocery store. The shrimp was cooked nicely, but the chicken was lacking seasoning(ordered blackned), and the entire plate was bland. The best part of the meal was the Caesar salad I order in which was basically lettuce, croutons, canned parmesan cheese, and Caesar dressing. Overall, the atmosphere was cool, but the food definitely needed some revamping. For a place called Flavors Kitchen, it's lacking true flavor. I do plan to revisit the restaurant in the future. Not sure, if it was a bad night or...
