I visited this place on a Saturday afternoon because my mom, who is 81 years old and disabled, needed to use the restroom. There was a sign on the restroom that stated that it was only for customer use. I understand why merchants have such signs and only allow customers to use the restroom. If it was for me, I would’ve held it in or found a place that would allow me to use their restroom. However, my 81 year old mom uses a cane and walks with a limp. It is difficult for her to walk long distances. Also, at her age, it is difficult to hold it, i.e. incontinence.
A code was required to open the restroom door, so I asked the lady at the counter if my mom who is disabled could use the restroom. She said that the code was on the receipt. It was her way of telling me that I needed to make a purchase to use the restroom. I told her that it was urgent and that she could clearly see that my mom was disabled and elderly. It didn’t seem to matter to her, because she repeated that the code was on the receipt. I had no choice but to purchase something– a macaron. Once the transaction was complete, she told me the bathroom code. The code was not on the receipt! She just didn’t want to tell me it without a purchase.
So here’s my question: If this was her mom, would she have done the same thing? I don’t know if there are laws prohibiting such actions. Is it discrimination to the elderly and disabled or a lack of compassion? So that’s one star for service and atmosphere.
As for the macaron I had to buy so my mom could use the restroom? I gave one star for food. It’s comparable to the ones you buy at Costco in the deli section. Mind you this is a...
Read moreThe delight of Garden Grove! This place is the epitomy of a friendly downtown merchant, and is such a great addition to the old downtown Garden Grove. My family has met the pastry chef owner, her mom, and their amazing pastry chef, Roger. They are good people. The two chefs met in training under a world-renowned French pastry chef, and El Patisserie was born. Their shop is a cozy, clean & modern oasis in the old town district. The environment is fresh and beautiful, made such by their gorgeous and equally delicious pastries. Their is seating inside, out front, and on the quaint back patio. Free wifi too! The staff is very friendly and are willing to please. These guys are out to make their mark on Main Street.
Try their coffee, it's delicious! I'm also a huge fan of their yummy sweet almond croissants. They are buttery deliciousness topped with roasted sliced almonds and almond paste inside or on the bottom. Pair this with the coffee and you have a winner! Try their quiche too. I like the sausage variety. I think they have different flavors on different days too. This place uses nothing but the finest ingredients and real butter. Get yours before this place is discovered and they run out of food by 10 with huge lines of people out the front door. That's what I predict for these guys. They are doing it right and that will not...
Read moreHere's a gem in Garden Grove. Cute little French pastries and light lunches served. The prices are reasonable and the pastries are excellent. The panini was good but I really loved the crab quiche. Light and refreshing, not like the usual quiche Lorraine or spinach. The quiche is exactly like it is made in France, the filling light and the crust perfectly cooked. The croissant was excellent. Really!! Finally after three years I have found my perfect croissant like I used to eat in France and Switzerland. OMG, I was in heaven. The canelé was pretty good, the interior was perfect, the extra needed to be a little more crispy but it was still good. Believe me, even in France some places can't make them the way they should be. The only guy I know is one from Bordeaux and he's been making them for forty years.... I do want to say that the owners should watch out...some other French patesserie or five star hotel just might come along and steal their pastry chef... He's got the soul of a real...
