Mai Salads Soup & Boba — Restaurant in Gaylord

It's a no for me. I love salads, especially when I can build my own.

They have been open for about 2 months and today was my first visit. I was so excited. And then I went in...... The 2 young people working were delightful and very helpful. But the food is seriously lacking. Not enough offered and prices way out of line.

Because I did not want any of their suggested menu item salads, I opted for a "build your own" with unlimited toppings. Over TWENTY DOLLARS with tax. My salad was barely worth $12. Salads are better at Wendy's and Culvers. Seriously, no joke. Come on, for $18 at Outback I get a steak salad, rolls and a drink. Unreal.

There is an array of greens to choose from. I got the iceberg and romaine mixed. The proteins available are lacking and not desirable looking. The turkey and ham are cheap deli meat slices cut into strips and dried out. (old?) Shredded chicken, spicy shredded chicken, ground up bacon and tofu. No steak/beef options. I chose the spicy chicken.

Now on to toppings.....I chose diced egg. Welp, they told me I needed to pay another $2 dollars because egg is a protein and I only get one protein choice. WHAT!?!? Eggs are literally 30cents each---probably cheaper because they buy in bulk. I had to pass on the egg. I got cranberries, blue cheese crumbles and asked for shredded cheese. He hesitated, like I was not allowed to get 2 cheeses. WHAT HAPPENED TO UNLIMITED TOPPINGS I paid for? He did give it to me. I also got chopped green onions. No tomatoes were offered for toppings.

I took my salad home and could not even eat the thing. I could make a better salad at home for 1/2 the cost. I am all for paying for good food when eating out. I have a lot of reviews here to show that. But this place just needs to shutter. At a minimum lower their prices and offer more toppings. I will not go back. They clearly have no idea what they are doing.......do not waste your money.

I did not try the Boba drinks, but based on the salad experience, they are probably gross...

I was hesitant to try this place because of the name. I thought soups and salads? Eh.

But they have BOWLS. I'm talking a massive quantity of high quality meat, seasoning, and sauces. It was INCREDIBLE. The person who waited on me, a young man built like a tank was amazing.

The bubble tea is AUTHENTIC tapioca balls too. Not those sugary ones you get at bubble tea shops.

Highly recommend the name gets changed to bring in more people! I want this...

I ordered the butter chicken and my mom ordered a salad to go. I only wish I had eaten it there so I could tell the owner in person how amazing it was. That chicken was melt in your mouth tender, and so full of flavor. Rice was perfectly cooked and the Naan was warm and soft. My moms salad was so fresh and HUGE. The portions are so worth the price. Will 100% come back, I am now very eager to try other things on the menu. The service was...
