Mikey V's Burger: The Best in Central Texas... Until It Vanished
Today, I learned the devastating news that Mikey V's has removed their burger from the menu. The reason? "It just didn't sell often." I have thoughts--lots of them--but let's start with this: If this burger didn't sell, it's because no one knew about it! It wasn't even on the menu most of the time. I mean, what are we doing here? Hiding the best burger in Central Texas like it's a secret society password?
Let me tell you something: My friends and I loved this burger. In fact, we thought it was hands-down the best burger in Central Texas. Big words, I know. But seriously, this burger was a work of art--juicy, flavorful, the kind of thing that could make you briefly forget your life's problems. It deserved to be celebrated, not shuffled into obscurity like some "secret menu" item at a coffee shop.
And here's the kicker: We'd show up in the evenings, ready to dive into burger bliss, only to be told, "Oh, we don't serve burgers at night." What?! Who decides these things? Are burgers allergic to moonlight? This level of inconsistency drove people away--not the burger itself.
Honestly, this feels like losing a friend who was too good for this world. But in reality, they just didn't get the spotlight they deserved. Imagine if the burger had been properly marketed, made available all day, and given the chance to be the star it was meant to be. Instead, it was quietly retired, and we're all worse off for it.
Mikey V's, I'm begging you: bring the burger back. Give it the proper promotion, the menu space, and the all-day availability it deserves. For those of us who knew about it, this feels like culinary robbery. If you need a slogan, here's one for free: "Mikey V's: Home of the Best Burger in Central Texas. by many fat guys"
Don't let the burger...

Their hot sauce selection is Impeccable (and impressive), staff knowledge is what you should expect as the gold-standard when learning about heat levels, tolerance, and new choices on the market. They're always happy to 'talk shop' and about anything really, without that air of "I have to buy something." Dont forget to grab some tacos while you're at it.. these aren't your ordinarily Americanized taco bell tacos, but instead bursting with flavor and authenticity. I wholly recommend the shredded chicken and Carne guisada tacos. They also have a spicy-eaters challenge 3x Chin Gao Tacos (pretty sure I spelled that wrong) that gets hosted from time-to-time so if that's your bell, ask and ring it when available...be warned you must sign a legally binding waiver that you will not hold the store accountable for your choice (its only reasonable, you chose this...)!
Give their pickles a chance! I particularly enjoy the Hot Sweet pickles, but their Green Bean pickle is off the charts and from what I've heard of those who enjoy it...so are the pickled eggs! Their habanero pickle chunks are to die for. The spicy Reaper pickle chunks will probably be death by food. But it's all worth it. I've not had a bad product here and their own brand are absolutely worth investing in. The taco sauces are amazing, the 512 Pot Sauce is great on chicken, pork & fish...just a small sample of what I like, but honestly I like it all. I'll never not stop in here when I'm...
Read moreWhat a dismal experience on our 2nd visit. Our $31.80 order was two quesadillas with a small sour cream, a small guacamole and two fountain drinks. The counter person took our order without the friendliness we had experienced on our earlier visit. From there it got worse. While we waited for our food we went to the salsa bar only to find it empty. When asked, the counter person told us she would bring salsa with our meal. She also offered up attitude and not in a good way. The employees then began to stack chairs on tables and remove the trash cans etc. We had to ask for to go containers which she set on the table next to ours. We got the message loud and clear we should leave. Mind you this was all before closing time. The last straw was when we tried to get a refill on our refillable sodas. We were informed at first it was “broken” then told they had turned it off in preparation of closing. When asked if we wanted her to turn it on we replied yes. The person walked off and went back to clearing our table. When we asked to see someone in authority we were told no one was there. She went on to say they had permission to get ready prior to closing time. It was the rudeness that was the final straw. The disdain and her uncaring attitude were unacceptable. If you’re going to break things down early then tell people that, only offer takeout, or offer a discount but don’t treat them like dirt for expecting delivery on what they purchased. We won’t...
