Roots is in the downtown square of Georgetown in a building that is over 100 years old. Parking is challenging around the square, but it is worth finding a spot. The restaurant is a large open space with a second level balcony with additional tables and seating. We stopped by on a Thursday afternoon and there was only one table occupied, so plenty of open seating. There is a small stage by the front door, and I can tell that this place can get crowded, especially when they have live music.
The menu has a great variety of choices, salads, appetizers, tacos, sandwiches, burgers, and pizza. I got the El Cubano sandwich, and my wife got the California Tacos with slow braised pork and a side salad. Wes, the restaurant manager, was friendly and talked with us about the food and history of the building and restaurant. We enjoyed talking with him and he is also clearly great in the kitchen because both meals were excellent! The Cuban sandwich had slow braised pulled pork and was topped with Swiss cheese, pickles, horseradish aioli, and Dijon on a Cuban roll. The pork was tender and juicy, and the Cuban roll was pressed, so the outside was slightly crunchy, perfect to hold in all the juiciness of the sandwich. I would definitely get this sandwich again. My wife loved her tacos. The salsa gave the right level of spices to take this taco over the top. She gave me a bite and I almost didn’t want to give it back to her! A lot of restaurants out there are making some type of taco plate, but this is one of the best tacos that we have tried. Even the side salad was excellent, and the ranch dressing was great. Wes told us that the dressing, like almost all items, are made in house. We can’t wait to come back and try the pizza, and also bring our entire family.
If that is not enough to convince you to try Roots, let’s talk about price. The El Cubano sandwich was $12.00 and the California Taco plate was $10.50. This place is excellent value for your money, especially compared to other places in the Georgetown area. My wife and I spent more money on two subs at a sandwich shop than we spent here. I really give credit to Roots for working to keep prices reasonable while providing fresh and delicious food! Go to Georgetown square, find a parking spot, and go to Roots. Based on our experience, you will not be disappointed. Highly...
Read moreUpdate: After trying pizza at a pizza joint down the street, I can fairly say that Roots has the best pizza around and that includes the surrounding area of Roundrock and Austin. The dough, sauce, and cooked consistency is 5 stars!
Take a look at the pic of the pie, the dough looks hand crafted. Compared to the pies down the street, you'll see that theirs appear too uniform, almost premade in appearance...they may not be but they almost look too perfect and the results speak for themselves.
The place down the street is great for small gatherings as a purpose built pizza shop with average pizza and lots of beer on tap. Roots is great for groups small and large as a music venue with fantastic pizza and beer on tap.
The Pizza title goes to Roots!
Original Review:
Was running a Saturday errand to the Ace Hardware store in Georgetown because they were the only location that had what I was looking for, so, made a Sunday Drive of it and had a pie and some pints at Roots, downtown Georgetown.
Great location, right across from the courthouse downtown on 8th Street.
Small local music venue with great pizzas. Service was a miss but the venue was cool. Loved the Big Kahuna (if you can tolerate pineapple on your pizza). Everything was pricey as I read from other reviewers. Beer on tap was overpriced at over $7 a pint. I guess I'm spoiled at Brooklyn Heights at HH.
Pizza was also pricey but we really enjoyed it.
I bet it's great...
Read moreCame here on a Sunday with the kids and friends and order apps, pizza and salad. First of all we stood in line for 20 minutes just to order. Once we ordered we had to go back and fort to ask if our food was coming out. Mind you we had 4 kids under 4 years old and way past their lunch time. A solid 30 minutes later I asked if our appetizer (cheese plate) was coming out soon. I was told that there were a lot of tickets and it would come out when it comes out. No I'm sorry it's taking for ever or anything. I asked again to check on the cheese plate since it's an app and we don't want it with our main meal. The kids were starving. Asked yet again and was told it will come out when it will, again no customer service or apologizing for the overly long wait time on a cheese plate or food. I'm trying to get my money back as I wait in line and I have kids that are overly tired and hungry now. Please don't ever visit this place. I will never be back here again and hope no one in georgetown comes here. This whole place is bursting with angry people with no food right now. The guy next to me is missing his sandwich and trying to figure it out and he just said he has been waiting 45 minutes for it. He said he thinks they dropped his order. This is...
