Ember - Farm to Fire
My son brought me to Ember as part of my Christmas gift and I must say it is in the top running for best gift ever. We did have reservations and they are easy to make on their website. We arrived during one of their live music events so we got entertained while eating this amazing meal.
The set up is pretty unique, when you walk in you see their amazing wood oven and it definitely caught my eye. It’s beautiful and functional art that helps them create their pizzas. Behind that you get a great view of the kitchen and the rest is the main dining room. To the right is a separate room that is made up of a bar, a pool table, and some lounging couches. To the left of the dining room is the outdoor patio area. This is where we sat.
Appetizers was such a tough call. Every single item sounded so delicious. We decided on the meatballs and the bread with black garlic and EVOO. The meatballs were the best I have ever had. They were soft and full of flavor and covered in a homemade marinara. The balance of the sweetness in the sauce was perfect, which is hard to do in a restaurant setting. I find sauces from restaurants too sweet. If Hansel and Gretel were real they would prefer a house made of these meatballs every day! The bread was spectacular. I bake my own bread at home and I was so impressed with the bread. It had the texture and floof of a standard bread loaf but the flavor of a ciabatta. Glazed with butter and topped with flakey sea salt it was absolutely perfect, dipping it in their olive oil with black garlic was out of this world for my taste buds. They may never move on and accept my standard bread recipe now that they had that.
When our mains came out I was already feeling full. However, we each ordered the 14 oz steak and I’m not about to bring that home. I’m not sure the picture does it justice. The steak is paired with fingerling potatoes and sautéed mushrooms and all is covered with a sauce, I’m not sure what kind of glitter (metaphorical glitter…magic) they put in that sauce but it was this magical thing, as if a au jus and a Demi-Glacé had a baby. To make things even better I am still confused on the cut of beef it actually was. It had the beautiful flavor and tenderness of a ribeye but without the fat and the muscle texture was even. On the drive home me and my son determined that whatever cow was used it led a happy existence and had to have been extremely relaxed when processed. Somehow I don’t think the farm will change their slogan to reflect that but it was in fact, the best steak I’ve ever had and I can cook a perfect steak.
Now the hard part of the meal came, dessert. Every single one sounded amazing but I had already eaten a weeks worth of meat and carbs and my diabetes and fullness did not allow me to even consider another bite. So of course I ordered dessert to go and this morning, when I woke up I had my insulin ready because there was no way I wasn’t going to not eat the fried poundcake with berries and whipped cream to start my day the same way I ended yesterday, with fabulous food.
So all that to say, get out and try Ember Farm to Fire. You won’t be...
Read moreMy wife and I live the area from Atlanta via New York and have been eating at all the local restaurants throughout st Simone’s and Brunswick. I have to say we were very disappointed this past Friday , we brought friends who are new to the area and wanted to try it after hearing us brag about the place I made a reservation for 7:45 we all got there a few minutes early and checked in at the hostess stand I was informed our table was being set up. We went to the bar the ladies sat in the available chars and the rest stood., about 45 minutes past and no table I went back to the hostess and she explained to me that there was a big party and they were behind. I asked her then why make the reservation if you couldn’t keep it. Back to the bar I went. It was 5 minutes to 9 when we were finally seated. Another 10 minutes past before our server realized we were waiting . That makes it almost an hour and a half before We placed our food order, and as usual the food was great I just think that some one from management should have come over to speak to us and at the very least apologized As a former restaurant owner there is no question I would have gone to the table apologized and comped at least an appetizer , but it never happened Our friends like the food but the wait and the way it was handled has turned them off, I don’t blame them. I do hope management or owners read this and try to never let that...
Read moreI have had good experiences with this place before. It seems lately that they have been riding off past glories. It seems they have lost standards for quality control and innovation.
We got two appetizers. One (brie) was really good and was the standard I expected for the price. The other (crispy Brussel sprouts) was mediocre. The topping caused all of the crispiness to turn soggy.
Our cocktails were amateur. It seems they are trying to be trendy with no craftsmanship. Nothing to hate but definitely not anything notable.
Entrées... short rib was good minus the excessive amount of fat. Scallops were good but the sides were all undercooked (risotto, asparagus, etc.)
Desserts were the highlight. Pretty good honestly.
Service... unprofessional. If I come to a nicer restaurant, I expect high-level service. The server seemed disinterested in our table. A line such as "Y'all want food?" What is that??? The table beside us was getting this server's best. Helpful suggestions, witty banter, and a set standard. This server missed out on a decent tip tonight. I will be expecting much more from them in the future. Tonight was...
