Let me start by saying that the appearance of the restaurant, both outside and inside is exquisite. It instantly felt like upscale dining. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted warmly at the door. The decor and lighting throughout is awesome, creating a great ambience for couples. Every inch of the space was used wisely. Though this is not an extremely large venue, it has plenty of seating [comfy booths and tables]. The menu is nice, featuring an array of popular Jamaican/Carribean island cuisines. We were started with fresh individual-sized loaves of bread and butter. I noticed right away the very nice serving platters. The butter holders were adorable. The bread was freshly baked and yummy. We asked our server a few questions then began to order. I decided to go with the Taste of Jamaica platter which features a combination of braised oxtail, curried goat and jerk chicken served with a bowl of rice and peas plus a side of plantain and steamed vegetables [carrots & broccoli]. We were told that the Taste of Jamaica platter would not be big enough to share amongst to, so my husband ordered the braised oxtail and beans which comes with oxtail [served in an edible shell and topped with a vegetable saute'], rice and peas, plantain and a side of the steamed vegetables. We were curious about the mac and cheese, so we ordered a side of that as well. All of the wait staff/servers were incredible! Everyone was attentive, kind, and engaging towards us. I was impressed with the fact that it only took about 10 to 15 minutes for our orders to be served. It was plated beautifully. The way it came out to our table was very similar to the online photos that you see on their web page. That's commendable! Consistency is important to me. Overall, Tommy and I enjoyed everything. The braised oxtail and the curried goat were a total hit ššššš . The steamed vegetables were well-seasoned and had a perfect crunch to them.šš½šš½ Some of the tastes were a little different than expected, and I had to remind myself that they did not use typical hot-n-spicy jerk seasoning. This is a unique, Escovitchez style of seasoning...more ginger, rosemary and other Jamaican herbs & spices. I did not find anything to be very hot/spicy at all. The sauce on the chicken even had a hint of sweetness to it, in my opinion. I thought the same thing about the mac and cheese. The pasta rested in a bed of creamy, cheesy roux that tasted similar to a mixture of chipotle barbecue and honey mustard. It was topped with shredded cheeses that melted as it baked. I wasn't a fan of this. It was too liquidy and sweet tasting for my liking. Another thing I was not in favor of was the plantain. It appeared to be lightly fried [like air fried]. It was dry/lightly crispy to touch on the outside, and only slightly soft and moist on the inside. There was not much sweetness to it. I considered it to be too bland. I prefer my plantain to be more tender, moist and caramelized. I love a good, sweet caramelized glaze on my plantain. Theirs was just different [for me], I'd say. Tommy and I have vowed to return. There are several other things on the menu that we want to try. I'd like to sum up this review with a few shout-outs to some people who made our experience the best: Jodi- our primary server who saw to it that we had a good time and experienced the love of the #Carribean Shaquanna "Shaq"- the General Manager who checked in with us and stepped in as needed to remove plates from our table. Sayjarah- an assistant server who consistently kept our water glasses topped off, and quickly wiped up my spill and replaced our napkins when the lemon slices I added to my water caused it to overflow onto the table. Chef Wayne- in charge of the delicious cuisine served Michae'l- the Sous Chef who decorated Tommy's cake & cake plate. P.S.- Amazingly clean unisex restrooms with scented candles...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been to this restaurant on several occasions, and have spent a lot of money with this establishment. I have introduced so many coworkers, family, and friends to this restaurant. It is quite disappointing that I even have to come on here and write this type of review. Earlier this evening, I called to place an order to pick up which we normally go and sit down but tonight I just wanted to be at home. The young lady took my order which was supposed to be three island pasta with jerk, chicken and shrimp, and three bread pudding. She then told me it would take approximately a half an hour before I could pick up the order. My husband goes to pick up the order and had to stand in the establishment for over a half an hour before the food was ready. He brings the food home and instead of shrimp and jerk chicken as I had placed the order for we had salmon. I immediately called the restaurant and let them know of the incorrect order. The manager gets on the phone and states he would be more than happy to refund the money. He states we would have to come back in, in order to get the refund. At this point it was 10 oāclock, which is what I said to him however he states he could not do it over the phone. We would have to be present in the establishment and it would have to be done tonight as it changes over day to day. My husband left back out and went back to the restaurant to get the refund. When he gets there the manager then states ādid you bring back the foodā My husband said to him you did not tell me to bring back the food you told me to bring the card in to get a refund for the food. The manager then states he has to get his boss. His boss comes out and states they cannot give the refund unless the food is brought back. They will be closing by the time my husband would be able to get back home, and bring the food back because they close at 11 oāclock. Not only was his time wasted to go back to the restaurant, they did absolutely nothing to rectify their error. I then said to the manager itās either one of two choices either go ahead and refund the money as promised, or this will have to be disputed with my bank. The manager then states āit seems like your choice has been made go ahead and disputed with your bankā I am appalled by his response, I find this behavior to be so unacceptable, unprofessional, and distasteful. They keep saying support black businesses, support black businesses. This is exactly why you cannot support black businesses. I am beyond disgusted with this restaurant and their barbaric behavior. This is a total ,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited the restaurant for a double date night a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't going to write a review, but I have been here on several occasions and I have let things slide over the years, and this time I want to be vocal about my experience. We made reservations and were taken to our seats at almost the exact time of the reservation, which was fantastic. However, we were walked to a small table right next to the restroom. We asked to be seated somewhere else since you can literally smell toilet water from the bathroom, then we were walked to another tiny table located right next to the kitchen. As a party of 4, the tables were very tight, so we asked for a booth. At that point, the hostess/waitress said we'd need to talk to a manager and walked away. The manager walked out, asked no questions, and led us to a booth that is supposedly reserved for parties of 6. The booth sat 4 people comfortably, a party of 6 is just plain greed. I understand the want to put as many bodies into seats, but the customer's experience and comfortability should be taken into account. We ordered our dinner, and the food was great. Received the tabs and the snapper was more than what is listed on the menu, when we brought it to the waitress's attention, she chose that time to let us know that the price was higher because the fish was "larger" than normal. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but why not state that when one is ordering? Also, the menu had two different prices as it was and we ordered the larger fish for the price that was listed on the menu. The waitress stormed off, then returned stating she would just pay us the difference out of her pocket because the Manager is not going to change the ticket. We were floored. The wait staff is absolutely rude and condescending. The interaction I had directly with the Manager was fine, but I will not be coming back. I pay higher prices for a pleasurable, enjoyable night with friends and family. No one wants to deal with nastiness and rudeness when trying to...
