I'm only giving one star because I have to. This place is horrible with customer service! I walked in to place a "to go" order. The manager seated me, my small child, and my sister. I listened to him ask a server four plus times to service our table. The server (unfortunately I did not get her name) never came to our table. She pointed at us. She looked at us. She never came. A different server ended up coming to take our order. By this time we had been waiting over twenty minutes. After an hour of waiting for the food, I asked the manager what the estimated time was to bring our food out. He told me he'd go check. Shortly after, the server who took our order was screaming at him from the kitchen. She then came out with the server who refused to take our order. They were pointing and looking at our table. We decided to call them over and ask if there was a problem. The server said the issue was the manager mixed our table up with another table, which somehow messed our food order up. We received the food, and was ready to pay. What's this added to the check? A mandatory 12% gratuity for "to go" orders. I didn't see that on the menu anywhere, so I asked the server why it was on there. She stated, "there's a huge sign when you first walk in. You're free to go look at it" I attempted to ask another question to her, but she put her finger up at me and walked away. I walked to the front to look at the sign. It was roughly a 8x10 picture frame that was sitting on the shelf at the check in station. It was not hugely noticeable. However, it was there. I believe it's strategically placed where it is, so that it cannot immediately be seen. I talked with the manager while my sister took my child to the car. The server ran to the front yelling, "she didn't pay her tab but she just walked out the door". I said, "mam, she went to take my daughter to the car. I'm still standing here ready to pay the tab after I speak with the manager about your terrible service. " She walked away. The manager seemed extremely nervous and unable to manage his subordinates. He did comp the gratuity. By the way, it was my birthday. I ordered food for my guests who were waiting at my home. The food was good. However, I will not be back to this...
Read moreI hardly ever send reviews on companies, but I can't let this one slide. Kampai in Lawrencville/Snellville area is a complete rip off. First off we came in for Hibachi in a group of three different couples. My wife and I came with my 12 year old daughter. They took our orders knowing perfectly well I had a child with me. The chef comes in who was a very cool individual and starts cooking. A child's plate is around $13 for shrimp and rice. I notice the chef gives my daughter large amounts of rice and shrimp, but didn't think anything of it. I feel he is just be generous to her because she is a minor and that's the experience I've had at other Hibachi establishments. Then they bring our tickets and for three meals its $82. Each couple had their own ticket. I had an automatic gratuity of 18% on my bill. I first informed that my child was a minor and they tell me she had an adult portion. I asked why because she is a minor. You can clearly tell she is because she had stuffed animals with her. They said sorry....nothing they could do and charged me $23 for a kid's meal. Not to mention they forced the 18% gratuity even after I slashed through it for the 15% option. I don't understand how they feel its ok to charge automatic gratuity anyway. They are shady and they charge people as if its some top of the line restaurant like Benihana. My experience was horrible. The food wasn't great. My favorite place is Tokyo Express in Conyers, GA. The same meal there would have cost me $27 and I would've had the choice on what I thought the waiters tip should be. Not to mention it tastes way better! People save your money and don't go here. I knew it was strange when I pulled in only to find 5 or 6 cars in the lot 3 hours before close. The word is getting out on...
Read moreMy friend and I both got Hibachi from the open grill, we joined another party of three (we didn't know them and were seated a couple seats away). It took quite a while for the hibachi chef to join us and when he did, he didn't really. What do I mean? Well, yeah, he was there prepping the food, but in every other hibachi experience the chef talks to the table, flips stuff around, tries to flip some morsel into someone's mouth, you know - some showmanship. Our guy? Nothing.
And to add in injury to insult (yes, I know it's usually the other way around), the food while edible was not served in an appetizing manner. The fried rice was cooked first a huge pile of it with 1 egg for each person which meant that we each got a hint of egg, but not really much evidence of it in the rice, which would have been okay, I guess, if it didn't just get plopped onto the plate only to sit while he cooked the other stuff... cooling down into a room temperature mound all the while.
I had "lobster and NY strip" for close to 40 bucks - the lobster was more likely Florida lobster than Maine as it was relatively flat and small. It was also overcooked when served to me so that it was rubbery and dry. The "steak" was thin and also small and required more chewing than normal as the cut was quite sinewy. I wound up getting most of it a "doggie bag" because it was just not good at the table. Dry, essentially flavorless and chewy are not what I thought I was paying a pretty hefty price for.
Good thing the dog liked it, of course he also snacks from the cat's litter box so I wouldn't take his word for anything...
I'll not be going back, save yourself - don't go in the...
