My partner and I went on a trip to St Simons Island recently and a quick google search for a new restaurant for us to try lead us here.
First off, the atmosphere regarding the interior of the restaurant felt very cozy. The dim lights bought a very intimate/romantic feeling as you dine in. We were sat at a table that was in middle of the dining room which was unfortunately right next to a very large and loud group of people (which I’m not blaming the restaurant for). There were not many walls to watch the the sounds of the conversing peoples and there was also no music to set the tone (or there was and the group we were sat next to were so loud that we couldn’t hear the music). Otherwise, everything else was fine.
The service rendered was excellent. Our waitress was very knowledgable on the menu and also educated us on their fish specials for the night. She was very personable, respectful, helpful (and funny).
Finally, the food; chef’s kiss. I started with the Creamy crab soup w/ chives while my partner had the fork and knife caesar salad. Both our appetizers came out quickly. The soup was absolutely delicious; it was creamy, slightly spicy, rich in flavor, and it was the perfect amount of soup for me. My partner’s salad was a stalk of romaine lettuce topped w/ Parmesan cheese and lightly coated w/ sauce along with a side of very flat, heavily crisped cheddar (which was odd and he didn’t like very much). As he says, his salad was still tasty. For the Entrée, I ordered the herb crusted rack of lambs while my partner ordered the seared scallops w/ sweetcorn risotto; both dishes chef’s kiss! I ordered my lamb medium rare and it came out perfectly cooked and succulent. The flavor was astonishingly perfect and with every bite I took I could just feel the love put into the dish. It also came with baby onions, cauliflower and baked scalloped potatoes. Everything on that dish was to my liking besides the cauliflower which had a roasted flavor I was super into. The seared scallops were delicately cooked and nicely soft. The risotto was tasty as well. Everything on my partner's dish was perfect except for the collard greens which had a resilient smell of vinegar and a very bitter taste.
Yes when we come back to the Island we will definitely be coming back here and recommending this place to our...
Read moreMy husband & I made reservations for our 40th Wedding Anniversary dinner one week prior & clearly communicated that our 2 service dogs would be coming & I also clearly wrote it on the Online Reservation message section. We followed up with both hostesses to confirm a few days prior. When we arrived we had difficulty finding a parking space so I ran inside to tell both hostesses at the front desk that we were there but just trying to find parking. I asked where we would be sitting & they walked me over to an end table in “The Library Room” which was away from traffic & other guests & we confirmed that it was a perfect table for the dogs ( who are both certified as Service dogs as well as Therapy dogs) We parked & entered & were met with the rudest, most unprofessional “manager” named Mc Kenzie Alves who literally kicked us out of the restaurant “because Service dogs aren’t allowed!” She made a scene in front of many other patrons at the hostess desk & refused to apologize or even acknowledge the multiple incompetent communications we received from her staff which contradicted her harsh refusal to allow us in. She literally did not care that it was our 40th anniversary! A bigger hypocrisy was that The Library Room” had ONLY 1 table seated with 1 couple! When we exited several patrons leaving approached us telling us that they were disgusted with how we were treated. Two family’s said that they would never return after witnessing what they saw & heard. Several said there have been several management changes which have had a negative effect on their reputation & low staff morale. Another told us that they were turned off when they heard Mc Kenzie Alves identify herself “As the General Manager” to us because they knew she was one of several “Assistant Managers.” One couple told us to go to Crab Daddies because they were certain that our service dogs would be allowed inside & that we would be treated very differently. They were right! 👍 Our experience there was 180 Degrees different & we thoroughly enjoyed celebrating our 40th WITH our incredibly well behaved service...
Read moreMy husband and I went based off of Google reviews listing them as 4.8 stars. Arrived at our reservation time and we were seated right away...very nice. As we walked through the dinning room though, we both were hit with a very musty/stale odor from the building. Honestly, it made me a little nauseous. It seems that the restaurant just smells this way? Anyway, we were seated and our waitress soon followed to get our drink order. I ordered a Black Cherry Margarita and my husband got a different cocktail. My husband's cocktail was okay, but mine just tasted like straight up tequila. I asked for some cherry juice to add to it or something to help combat the tequila taste but was told that the drink was premade and was brought some simple syrup...this did not do anything but make the drink take like sweet tequila. I gave up. We ordered some appetizers as I was still feeling a little queasy from the musty smell and unsure if I could actually eat anything. My husband ordered the Escargot and I ordered mussels for us to share. His escargot was okay, but the snails were the size of the tip of his pinky, so not worth the price being charged. The mussels were very fishy and several in our dish were served unopened. Still unsure about ordering a full entree, we continued with appetizers. The next and final dishes were the ravioli and beef carpaccio. The ravioli was dry (we ate 1 each) and the beef carpaccio was so covered in sauce that it was overpowering. At this point, we decided to stop trying, get our check and go back to our hotel to get food there. Found that the food that we did order was pricy and not at all good. Maybe an off night, but it's doubtful that we would return based off of...
