Mellow Mushroom St. Simons Island — Restaurant in Georgia

First off, let's start with the plus side. The food at Mellow Mushroom is consistently tasty. Serving sizes are excellent. We like the atmosphere. It is straightforward, colorful and laid back. Unfortunately, both of these pluses were overwhelmed by the dreadful service at every level. Here are some examples from an otherwise long list. For starters, there was clearly no emphasis on serving guests at the same table at the same time. At our table of four, I received my entree first (most of it, anyway). I ordered a bowl of soup as an appetizer and a pizza as the entree. The pizza arrived first followed by the soup about five minutes later, after reminding the server that she had forgotten it. Five minutes later, my wife's dinner arrived. About five minutes after that, our two guests received their orders, just as I was finishing my meal. Our server made occasional appearances with long gaps in between. One of our guests ordered two identical cocktails. We noticed that they appeared to be two different drinks. One was noticeably darker and stronger than the other. When we asked the server if there was a mistake, she assured us that they were the same drink but they were made by two different bartenders who made their drinks differently. Bar revenue can make or break a restaurant operation. A well managed restaurant provides proper training and strives for consistency. Too much o booze in the glass causes too little profit at the end of the day. As we were finishing our dinner, our server asked us if we were going to be ordering any more, we told her that we were just going to finish our drinks and were otherwise ready to leave. About ten minutes later, she reappeared and asked us if we were ready for our checks! Yes, I thought to myself, we are still as ready as we were ten minutes ago! After another 10+ minute interval, our checks finally arrived. We had asked for separate checks which were provided. Suspicious of the totals on the checks, I waited for the server to return and after another 5-10 minutes, took the checks to the cashier and asked to see the itemized statement. The server had charged me for our guest's meals and charged them for ours. The cashier corrected the mistake after several minutes. I decided to bring the events of the evening to the manager’s attention. After asking the cashier if I could speak with the manager, I waited another five minutes before asking her again, at which point she told me that the manager must still be busy in the kitchen! I’ve read a few other reviews where disappointed customers asked to talk to the manager without success. It is quite common for employees to follow the examples that their leaders set. Going here was a waste of my time and money. My fiance, myself, and our friends were all seated rather quickly, which was good. However, our waitress did not come by for a solid 20 minutes, which meant no drinks, and no orders were taken. Finally she comes by and gets our drinks and orders, but of course it takes forever to actually get anything we ordered, including the drinks. Then salads came out, yet we had no utensils to eat them with, and it took us telling he waitress we had no utensils for her to even notice. Then the pizzas finally come out, one of which was wrong entirely, and another was never even cooked, so we had to wait another 20 minutes for the other pizza to be cooked. And our waitress never even cared seemingly. She was just eating in the kitchen and then serving food with her mouth full of food, which was disgusting. I don't think she ever smiled once, and she kept muttering things under her breath, which lead me to believe she really was in no mood to be serving our table. Really just a terrible experience overall with the waitress. On top of that, the pizza was bland. I've never had to put salt on a pizza until I ate here, just so I could get some type of flavor in the food I was eating. Please, don't waste your time here. Traveling through and a local suggested we try mellow mushroom as january is happy hour prices all month... price of beer did not reflect happy hour prices... and yes we asked

I understand it was busy and winter time so staffing is low compared to summer, but our server/waiter was helping the entire resturant vs section based, so he was hardly around and a rare sight to see

We came in and ordered our pizza to go. They said 30 - 40 minutes, after 50 we went to the front asking about it. We stayed in the bar area, had beer, watched the game, and waited vs calling it in and or leaving and coming to pick it up. They brought it out instantly... so you know it was sitting there ready to go and they were okay with that vs idk finding us in the bar like where we said we'd be. On top of that, they forgot to add a topping to our custom pizza and now we are questioning the entire pizza..

All that aside, the pizza tastes really good, and the staff was willing to reimburse us for the additional toppings... we opted out as we have way bigger problems then $2's, ya know

For being late night and like the only thing open on sunday nights, Id go back here... but Id look for alternative options first.. both locally and...
