In the mood for some racism and mediocre food? Well look no further! Although the women at the counter who took our order seemed nicer (after letting her know this was our first time eating here) the staff clearly was racist and rude. The waitress who assisted my friend and her daughter kept reaching in between us as we were speaking, slamming cups down after refilling them, leaving the trash on the table and passive aggressively asking us is everything alright.(Only question she asked without speaking the whole time.) The worst experience ever. I felt so uncomfortable at this place I didn’t even want to sit down nor stand inside to wait for my food. I would never recommend this place to anyone nor would my family and I ever return for the overrated tasteless food. Thanks but no thanks. Also, all white staff in kitchen and waitressing. Only blacks cleaning tables. This is such as sad and obvious mentality this restaurant seems to pride themselves on. Unfair diversity in the worst way shown.
*RESPONSE TO OWNER Wow… that response is not only dismissive — it’s gaslighting, unprofessional, and deeply condescending. Instead of acknowledging my experience, you chose to attack my character, question my mental state, and call my truth a “hateful story.” That wasn’t a response. That was a deflection drenched in ego and arrogance — and it tells me everything I need to know about how your establishment truly operates.
You didn’t ask what you could’ve done better. You didn’t even pretend to care. Instead, you turned to the oldest tactic in the book: invalidate the person bringing the truth so you don’t have to face it. That’s not strength — that’s cowardice.
It takes a certain kind of entitlement to read a message from someone who told you they felt unsafe, unseen, and unwelcome — and decide that the appropriate response is to insult them. You weren’t confused. You were defensive. And your defensiveness reveals far more than anything I said.
Let’s also address your comment on “diversity.” You say anyone can walk in and see that I’m “mistaken.” But diversity isn’t just about optics — it’s about equity, energy, and how people are treated once they’re through your doors. What I saw and felt was a space where power dynamics were painfully obvious. Where white staff handled the public-facing, decision-making, “respectable” roles, and Black employees were confined to the margins. And when someone like me speaks on it, you call it a lie?
What I experienced wasn’t made up. It wasn’t exaggerated. It was real. It was mine. And the fact that you’re so quick to silence it instead of sitting with the discomfort speaks volumes about the culture you’re defending.
This wasn’t just a bad customer experience. This was a clear sign of what happens when someone calls out racial tension and is met with ego instead of accountability. The type of place where smiles don’t mean safety, and politeness doesn’t equal respect. The kind of place where people like me are tolerated, not welcomed.
So no — I’m not okay. I’m not okay with being dismissed, disrespected, or degraded by a business I gave my time and money to. And I’m not okay with the idea that you think I’m supposed to swallow your words and disappear.
But I am clear. I’m clear on what I felt. I’m clear on what I saw. And I’m crystal clear on the fact that your response confirmed every concern I had walking out your door.
You don’t have to believe me. But you will respect that I didn’t stay...
Read moreFinally had the opportunity to visit this café after passing by it a million times from working in the area. My colleagues said it was an ‘okay’ spot, so give it a try.
When I arrived there was a sign that stated, “Please seat yourself”, so I grabbed a booth near the door-right behind a table of four guests. I reviewed the menu on the table and quickly decided what I’d like for lunch. I noticed a waitress bring a dish to the table in front of me, but did not look up or acknowledge me sitting there. I thought it was slightly odd that she didn’t visit my table to take my order, but assumed maybe she was a food/table runner. A few moments later, a party of four arrive and seat themselves towards the back of the café. Within a minute, the same waitress walks to their table and greets them. I was shocked, so I looked around the restaurant to see if there were more servers & did not see any.
I finally made eye contact w/the bartender (6 feet away from me) who then gives me the ‘head knod’-giving me confirmation that she sees me and will be over shortly to take my order (I assumed). Within 2 minutes, the bartender approaches me and is very friendly and asks me what I’d like to drink; but by this time I was ready to place my order. I ordered a salad, sweet tea, garlic knot and a slice of pizza. My salad & tea arrives quickly and shortly after that; my garlic knot arrives. The salad had wayyyy…too many onions on it & wish they were red onion vs. white (no biggie). The salad was fresh -including the cucumbers. The garlic knot was hot & delicious and the tea was sweet! My slice of pizza arrived and I would rate it 7/10- I’m a huge fan of BBQ Chicken pizza and this was average. The crust was very thick and the bottom was cooked well (hard to cut), but the inside was a little doughy, too much BBQ sauce and the bottom of the pizza had small burnt granules -as though they needed to brush out the pizza stone/oven or pan before cooking my slice. So, the pizza had a slight burnt taste. The edge of the crust was delicious, so I ate most of that and some of the toppings. My bill was only $11, so I did leave a $2 tip reluctantly, but I chalked it up to them being short-handed.
Before I left, I asked to speak to a manager and Terry was very nice. I shared my experience with him and he said he would pass the information along to the owner. I was a little disappointed, because I passed atleast 2 other pizza places before arriving here, and there are a million other restaurant choices on Hwy 78 with much better service. After returning to my office, I shared my experience w/a couple of colleagues and most of them said their experiences have been similar; mixed in with long wait times for carry out meals(that were called in ahead of time) and no acknowledgment of their presence as they sat and waited to be served. The restaurant is in a tough location to access, you’d think the management/staff team would do a better job of ensuring a good experience for each customer-seeing how it may be hard to drive business through the door. Not sure I’d be back-as I expressed to the manager, usually you get one shot to make a...
Read moreI have been coming to Pizza Cafe for years. The last several times have been very disappointing. Twice we were never acknowledged by a server and left after waiting over 20 minutes sitting at a table. Tonight, we (me, my husband, and my daughter) were acknowledged after a little wait and placed an order (sub, calzone, and a single slice of cheese pizza). Things were busy and a little wait was understandable. After nearly an hour, it was determined that our order was never put in. This was frustrating, but we were willing to accept that things were busy and it could be made right. Another server came and asked us what we ordered. We told her and I stupidly assumed the order would be expedited a bit due to the mixup. That server returned after a little while, and said she needed to write it down so we repeated the order again. We waiting about 25 more minutes with no communication from anyone. We then asked if we could just get the order to go. We were informed that the order was on its way out of the kitchen. We got the check and were again told that the order was being boxed up. When we got the pay slip back, we were then told our food would be seven more minutes because it had just been put in the oven. We eventually got the food to go and just sat down to eat at home, and my husband’s sandwich order was wrong despite having to give his order at least four different times to two different servers. Being busy and understaffed is one thing, and we were perfectly willing to wait a little longer for this reasons. But this was ridiculous and goes beyond being short staffed. Two tables sat, ordered, and got their food before we left with our (incorrect) to go order. We paid our full bill and no one offered any kind of discount or comp for this ridiculousness. I am so disappointed and we...
