I can confidently say this is one of the best street taco spot in the Atlanta metro area!
The place has an artistic, Mexican, vibe with lively, colorful decor. No Tex Mex here! The food was reminiscent of the local food spots we ate at our our visits to Mexico and you could taste the authentic flavors! Everything we tried was bursting with fantastic flavors.
The salsa roja and fresh made chips had just the right amount of spice. The shrimp in the handmade taco cameron Al pastor con queso was perfectly cooked. The quesabirria was absolutely delicious and was the winner in my books. The handmade taco Asada con queso was full of flavor and we were all starting to get full before the star of the show, the platter el rey del pastor came. We opted to get the pastor instead of chicken and were very pleased with our choice. The pork was well marinated and had just the right amount of crisp on the edges. The pineapple chunks complimented the pork so well. The onions, short ribs, and queso were delectable but the best part of the entire platter was the bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp. The charro beans were some of the best beans I’ve ever had. Incredibly tasty to eat on their own or add to a taco, or other dishes.
Just a note, on the menu they do give an option to add more bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp or short ribs for an additional cost.
We came starving and the platter we ordered along with the 3 tacos was more than enough food for 3 people. We actually ended up having to take our leftovers to go because we were all so full.
Even though we waited for a good 30 minutes on a Saturday evening. The wait was worth it as the food did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and very attentive to out needs and requests. They were quick with refills of salsa, chips, and beverages even while managing multiples tables. They all worked together and we saw them thoroughly cleaning all of the tables before patrons were sat.
If you're in the area and want to enjoy some delicious Mexican food, I highly recommend you give this...
Read moreFirst let me say I had to eat the tacos and calm down before writing this review. My wife made me aware the owners of Rey del taco were opening a new restaurant in the Buford area close to our home. I was excited since I loved Rey del taco but the drive into Atlanta can be a mood killer most days. So we decided to check this place out. We arrived around 7:350 and placed our order around 7:45. We ordered a total of 18 mini tacos and a torta to share with our sons. 9 Al pastor and 9 carne asada TO GO. We then waited for at least an hr. 2 other families arrived to our left and placed their orders . We literally sat there and watched them order eat and leave before we got our TO GO order. So tell me why the waitress waits until she serves our bags to express herself and tell us she was sorry for the wait. I’m sorry but we thought our order was forgotten 30 min into the wait my wife asked her how much longer not once did she say they were backed up ( they weren’t ) or there was a delay with the order. Not once did they try to make our experience more comfortable. To me ( I may be wrong ) it seems that if you place and order to go then it sits on the waiting list and dine in orders take a priority. Am I wrong? If I am then can some one, anyone from Rey del taco reach out and tell me why my TO GO order was less important then the 6 tacos the family to our left ordered? The tacos were decent but not jaw dropping . Do yourself a favor go to Tapatio Carniceria in Dacula behind the Waffle House and across the street from Hebron church academy. I am not affiliated in any way to them but their tacos taste better and you get good customer service. My family will not be returning to...
Read moreI’m writing this review because I have an interesting perspective. American but very deep in Mexican culture. This place is clearly not oaxaca, Jalisco or anything like that but in America… and not in Texas, this is just about as close as it gets.
I came here for my first time with my girlfriend (who is 🇲🇽 + 🇨🇴 ) and we pride ourselves on trying the most authentic and cultured places.
This place had the best pastor tacos, almost identical to the ones we eat back in Mexico ( not talking about Cancun, either )
The service is top notch considering almost all the servers look to be 25 and under. The only place I know of that resembles that is Chick-Fil-A. So take that for what it’s worth. It’s obviously a great example of leadership. Ruben, (unsure if he’s the only person or one of the people in charge ) is a class act and checks on his customers any chance he can. I can fully attest to this because since my first visit in April, I’ve come back over 10 times in the span of two months.
I never wait longer than 10-15 for food, usually less. The menu is what you’d expect, but the taste took my girlfriend and I by complete surprise. Finding taste like this in area surrounded by suburbanized Tex-mex is a breathe of fresh air.
All the folks who give it one star probably came once. Irrelevant reviews if you ask me. The food is not expensive, look around. Inflation. Hello! Everything is up.
This place is phenomenal and I’m very happy that We finally have some...
