I really wanted to love this place as it is locally owned and very convenient to walk to. That said, sadly, based on our three visits, this is one of of the most overrated places in Germantown. Put another way, this place is probably great for the average Germantown palette, but pales against really good coffee and breakfast places.
The coffee drinks are average at best and not nearly to the quality you can find in other places such as City & State, Belltower, Comeback and Jo-Jo's, for example. Frankly, if I can make a better latte at home it is not worth buying one there. The breakfast burrito was bland and the pastries just average. Full disclosure: while we have been there three times, it has been over three years since our last visit.
Again, I really wish I could rate this place higher, and make it a regular stop, but the ratings given are not indicative of the quality we experienced. That said, your results may vary and you should try for yourself to make up your own mind as I think locally owned business deserve our support. I may return for another visit to see if things have changed and if so I will...
Read morePROS: Good coffee, close to my work CONS: outrageously overpriced
I have been here multiple times before, and the 2 stars are for the good coffee they serve. The 3 missing stars are for:
the lack of prices on their website, and the fact that they charge $14 + tax for a lox and bagel. That is just for the sandwich, not a combo, no drink, no chips - $14+tax for a bagel with lox.
I called in an order yesterday for a lox and bagel, from the menu on their website. Upon arrival, I was quoted the price as being $14 and some change. I couldn't in good conscience pay that, so I left.
I called around other establishments in the area to make sure I wasn't being petty or cheap - $7.67 was the first price I was quoted at Einstein Bros. Yes, that's a chain and they will have cheaper prices, but ~100% more expensive seems quite excessive.
To be clear, had the prices been listed, I wouldn't have wasted my time, JavaCafe's time, or their food product - I simply would have ordered a different item, or gone...
Read moreCome check it out!! Great place for breakfast or lunch. It’s cozy, local, fresh. Fast. Won’t be disappointed. My only word of caution: it is rather small, and there isn't much room for a group. There are a couple patio tables, the dining area is pretty tight. Best to come with maybe only one other, but hey, that's part of its charm. My friend and I ended up sitting at a long table with a stranger--but then that got us out of our shell. Don't let it intimidate you--this was a happy crowd of people to be around. The chefs & cashiers were really sweet too. SUPPORT LOCAL, SMALL BUSINESS -- that's how we all build the...
