Icicles Gilroy — Restaurant in Gilroy

Summary: Great ice cream with a show and the line that goes with it. =)

Location: This place is located by the Gilroy Walmart and across the street from Costco. There is always enough parking despite the line.

My girlfriend and I visited Icicles on a cool mid Saturday afternoon and there was a line already out the door. The queue to order was fairly quick but the line to make the ice cream was pretty long. The process to get in and out the door was about took 20 minutes. That being said, most of the patrons were watching the ice cream being made. After watching a couple times you can tell which employee has a good technique. When they are ready to make your order they will call your name. At this point you move towards your server and giving you a front row seat to the spectacle. Our server was nice and made small talk as he was working. He drew hearts and other shapes as he was adding the ingredients. Its a nice touch and we could tell he likes his job.

The Butterface basically tastes like a Reese's Pieces but not overwhelming sweet. =) The flavors were consistent and even considering they are mix the ice cream right in front of you. Texture wise it is very smooth like a good ice cream...

Their service was very good, and their topping options were good. If they could have more options without cookies or have more gluten-free options, that would be great. My biggest complaint is just that the style of ice cream isn't great. In order to make the ice cream roll, it needs to be very cold, but that makes your mouth very cold and for whatever scientific reason of absence of heat, your taste buds won't pick up taste well when they're cold, so you have to let the ice cream melt a little bit, which defeats the purpose of the rolls. Its cool to see how they smooth out and roll up the icecreams, plus unlimited toppings...for the price is too high per cup..around $8.00 for the people we paid close to $30.00. It would be nice if they had kid sizes so your not stuck with a lump of ice cream if they end up not liking or cant finish..who wants to throw away money...its fun but because of the price and only one size option..I gave 3 stars. That was our first and will be our last time. We at least...
