I have never tried this place. Knows there’s one on Parvin but just never thought to try it (tbh it looks dirty). So my son says look mom!! He asked if we could try it. The menu is hard to read because it has so many items. they had to make the font small and words close together. So if it’s your first time just be prepared to tell them to hang on If you’re lucky you’ll hear the “huff” lol. Tons of fried food! Not a lot of healthy choices. I went ahead an ordered a fish sandwich. As I was still browsing the menu, I saw catfish nuggets, catfish fillet… so I asked what kind of fish my sandwich will have- catfish. So instant “change that”. Just not a catfish person. Love to catch ‘em but not eat a fish that eats dead n other animals fecal matter (yep I said that 🤭). Another 5 mins later I decided on the taco salad 🥗. I know there’s a Taco Bell 700 ft away but after 7 mins of looking through the menu I felt obligated. I asked what was in it and if it came in an edible bowl. Was told taco meat, cheese, lettuce. Hmmm ok well the pic made it look good n thought son n I would just share. After going through I went ahead and parked so we could look at it n try it. No one mentioned the surprise at the bottom. This “salad” was in a paper bowl. Cracked taco shells in two. It looked like when your taco breaks in half and falls out into your plate. Unseasoned “taco meat” do i dunno why he said it was seasoned. It took 8 packets of sauce to get some kind of taste. I asked for 6 mild sauce. Such generosity when I go into bag and there’s 2. Fortunately I had some mild sauce from Taco Bell. So for $10.+ You get “meat” 3 taco shells broke in 2, lettuce n cheese. No beans, no sour cream (dunno if u could ask for some. It also didn’t cross my mind to ask for any. Usually it’s included. Before I get to the “surprise”, it did cross my mind that you could buy this and make your own tacos if one didn’t want to cook. There was enough to make 6 or 7 half full tacos or grab some Fritos n make a walking taco for the kids BUTTTT here it comes….. the GREASE!!! It was beyond words. You know that gross feeling in your mouth when something is super greasy? That coating one gets? So I pushed everything to one side and it just kept streaming to the side of the paper bowl. Since the bowl is paper it soaked up some which makes it even worse knowing there was just soooo much, the paper “ bowl” couldn’t soak it all up. I honestly think I could have poured that grease into a skillet and had enough to fry something. The pics doesn’t depict all the grease. As I was holding the “salad” back it was grossing us out so I threw away $10.+. I guess the lettuce and cheese was edible but had already mixed it up before I saw what waited for us. I understand this isnt a Mexican restaurant and it’s more of a Tex-mex-Americana. I understand prices have gone up. But $10+ for 4 ingredients isn’t right. If I wanted cracked taco shells I would have went to Taco Bell. At least the meat is flavored and not sitting in a vat full of grease. If Texas Tom’s is your thing, please share what items you think are good. I’m willing to give another chance in a few months. No gallbladder with all that grease was not a great 24 hrs 🤭. It’s been over a week but you know how you just wince and shake your head no while grabbing you belly. That’s what I did writing this. It DEFINITELY left a lasting impression NOT a good one either.
Edited for response: we did stop at the one on n.oak (old Hardee’s building). We did order the taco salad. Pics are of the food we were given. I did not make this and claim it came from tt. Nor buy it from elsewhere. Just because this was not good, does not mean other food is not. At some point we may...
Read moreEdit: They've improved drastically and the food and service has been great and super fresh!!!
Originally when I first started coming here the food seemed great it was fresh and nice but the service seemed to always be lacking, attitudes, annoyance if they made a mistake, etc Over time the food began to lack as well, items being over cooked, items being undercooked, incorrect items being given even when told clearly what was ordered.
Today was my last straw, I've been asking for fresh, made to order to which they have been agreeing to, every time I have they have over seasoned my food, given me microwaved pre cooked chicken(to give the illusion its fresh)(they claim no microwaves are used but just about every restaurant has them, if it wasnt microwaved they just in general over cooked it, it was burnt, gravy that is super clumpy and not mixed properly, and all out not edible food
If you try and explain your issue with the order the lady who claims to be the manager, she will argue with you and tell you you're wrong and interrupt you while you try and explain whats wrong, she gave me attitude when I told her my chicken was over cooked and not edible saying "What you don't want it cooked?" while scoffing and laughing at me. Basically asking me if I want it raw, they've surved raw burgers so I wouldn't put it past them to just give you raw chicken. The cook was wearing dirty excessively stained grey sweat pants, dirty greasy hands no gloves and was standing at the counter while the management was processing my refund that she refused dozens of times to give me blaming me for her stores issues, take accountability for your mistakes. I would like to add I've worked in high end professional restaurants, and all around fast food jobs and have never seen such a place so unprofessional and careless. I would give this place a zero star rating if I could the pure lack of care for customers safety, food safety, and all around just the lack of care of everything, this place doesn't...
Read moreAte at the New Texas Toms on North Oak. A return trip is certainly in the cards. Since they are new I wanted to sample a couple of different items so I ordered a couple of pieces of Fried Chicken and an Italian Steak Sandwich. My son had Chicken Strips w/Curly Fries. My son said his strips were juicy and well seasoned, some of the best he has eaten. The curly fries were well done and the portion size was certainly pleasing. My Italian Steak was what I was looking for. A very good effort with a very good sauce and well seasoned steak. The lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles were fresh and enhanced the experience. Sometimes you just have to have an Italian Steak and this one fit the bill nicely. Glad to have it as an option close to home. My fried chicken was very good, the brine used on the meat could have been a bit stronger, but the breading was well seasoned and gave this a very good flavor. The crust was very crispy and overall I found this to be one of the better fried chickens I have had in a long while. The only issue was the breast was just a touch on the dry side. I still give it a very, very solid 4 out of 5. Had it not been for the dry, it easily would have rated 5 of 5. My son and I also swung back through for a chocolate shake.... yea those were on point as well. I hope they are able to make a go of it and this level of food is the normal. I will certainly be making a...
