TL;DR: Food was just okay, service and ambience left a lot to be desired.
Because my husband loves seafood, and it had gotten some great reviews, we decided to try out this place on Father's Day. It was not busy when we arrived (only 2 other groups) but it still took a few minutes to be seated, and even longer for a server to come take our drink order. At that point we just ordered our food too, since we'd had plenty of time to look over the menu. I tried to order an alfredo dish, but they didn't have any noodles. I ordered the catfish basket instead, and the rest of the family ordered the shrimp basket, the shrimp fest, and the lemon garlic shrimp.
Food arrived pretty quickly, took longer to get the requested ketchup, which just came out in a tiny little half-dollar sized bowl. (No condiments or seasonings were on the table, just an odd attempt to "dress up" the table with a cloth table runner and fake flowers, which kept falling off the vase they were perched on top of. They also used cloth napkins, and cloth seat covers over some of the chairs, but had no tablecoths. There were lots of fake flowers and plants, a gigantic non-working plastic fountain in the middle of the dining area, cheap plastic folding chairs at several tables, and 2 TV's - one showing golf and another showing a sci-fi movie. Just lots of inconsistencies about what type of place they want to be.) My husband really enjoyed his shrimp fest, although it was less food than we expected for the price, and I enjoyed my french fries and the breading used on my fried catfish, but it was really inconsistently seasoned - some spots had seasoning heaped on, some spots had none. My son felt the same about his fried shrimp. However, our server was extremely polite and friendly, even though our drinks were never refilled and we really weren't checked on during the meal. I think this place could be really good, but it suffers from confusion about what it's style and level of hospitality aspires to be, some inflated pricing, and inconsistent,...
Read moreGotta respect honesty, and that was my first impression when we walked in the restaurant. They flat out tell you that your meal may take 20 minutes or so to be delivered.
This is a locally owned restaurant. Our server was also part owner along with his wife. They cook customers meals to order so it's important to understand this is not a corporate, everything is pre-cooked/frozen/heated in a microwave kind of place.
I had the shrimp basket - it was discounted from $35.00 to $30.00 as it was the Wednesday night special. I got a basket of peel and eat shrimp, 2 pieces of corn, small taters and brats. I told him I didn't do spicy and he promised me I'd be okay. I was. Everything was very good.
We enjoyed visiting with Jeremy (server/owner) and learned he is not only a civil engineer, a nurse, and a remodeler... now he's also in the restaurant business. He's a worker. And he wants his customers to enjoy their meals. I asked about getting a hot dinner role (also on the menu) but they were still proofing. Yep, the rolls are from scratch. I was super bummed as he said they compared to Lambert's rolls. And who doesn't like Lambert's, amiright? They also serve catfish, chicken and beef if my memory serves. They serve shrimp several different ways with various seasonings.
The bottom line is this place is worth checking out. They are located in the spot where Applebee's was at the Independence Center. There was plenty of...
Read moreOur dining experience was quite disappointing from start to finish. I ordered salmon, expecting it to be perfectly cooked and flavorful, but unfortunately, it arrived overcooked—dry and lacking the flaky texture that makes it enjoyable. Alongside it, I had a side of asparagus that was undercooked; there were only four pieces on the plate, and they were difficult to chew.
My husband chose catfish, but he too was less than impressed with his dish. He remarked that the side of French fries served with his meal was far more delicious than the catfish itself, which just didn’t meet his expectations. The presentation was also odd; my salmon was served on a small salad plate, while my husband’s meal came in a casual basket, which felt mismatched for the setting.
To wash down our meals, I requested a diet Dr Pepper, only to be informed that it wasn’t available. This was disappointing, especially since the menu listed several diet drink options, which I later discovered tasted as if they had been watered down. My husband opted for an unsweetened tea, but the server told him that they didn’t have any brewed at the moment. As a result, he settled for water, which seemed to be the most straightforward choice under the circumstances. Overall, the meal fell short of our expectations in both taste...
