I just left Tokyo Mandarin for the second time tonight. We order from here often and eat in only occasionally. The food is usually delicious and the service is typically decent. We've eaten here for years and have never really had a problem until tonight. I placed an order over the phone with no issues. The hostess even confirmed one of the menu items by partially repeating it back to me. I picked up my order, paid $50, and drove 15-20 minutes to my parents to eat our meal. Upon opening the bags we realized we were missing an eggroll (part of a combo) and an entire dish. If it were just the egg roll, I would have let it go. But the other item was my mom's entire meal. I called and explained the situation. The hostess said I wasn't charged therefore I'd have to pay. I explained to her that I'd appreciate it if she could complete that portion of my order "on the house," considering she repeated part of that specific item to me and I'd now be driving 30-40 extra minutes and missing the majority of dinner. She agreed to do so. When I arrived however, I was "greeted" by a man whose first words were that he'd give me the eggroll but not the meal because it wasn't on my reciept. He proceeded to show me the receipt (that I clearly did not understand because it was written in Chinese or Japanese). He stood there and argued with me for a good 5 minutes. I explained to him and the hostess my situation again, and that I understand (I've worked in food service and retail for the past 14 years) but for the inconvenience, of driving, alone I should be comped. After all, a business should want their customers to be happy, right? I dont think i was asking too much. He finally, hesitantly, agreed so then I had to stand there and wait ANOTHER 10 minutes for the dish to be made. They had my phone number from my original call. After the hostess discussed with whomever the man was, I should have been called and notified that they were expecting me to pay, especially knowing how far/long I was driving to get there. The man returned with my dish, I kindly thanked him and told him that I appreciated the gesture and to have a good night. I received no response other than, "no problem" (but clearly, it was). AND no eggroll. At that point however, I was too hungry to sit there and argue any longer. Overall, I am very disappointed in my experience tonight (the first time in a long time) and will greatly reconsider recommending or patronizing this establishment...
Read moreHad to give at least one star to review! Not happy about that at all! I ate there today and paid my bill. I didn’t leave a tip on my card because I thought the company I went with left cash on the table. Long story short I left my phone inside after paying. I sent my brother in to grab my phone. The manager said I had to come in to get in. As I came in I saw my attending waitress see me and turn around to tell the manager I was in. The manager comes from the back with my phone in one hand and the open checkbook in another. He proceeds to tell me there was no tip on the card. I said I know “he” which was my company had the cash. He proceeds to tell me there was no cash on the table. All the while still holding my phone in his hand close to his body. I said I paid the bill and “he” had the cash. He continued to keep talking about the tip. I became furious and said “are you trying to hold my phone hostage because there is no tip on the card?” He tiptoed around the question and was still concerned about the tip. I had to literally snatch my phone out of his hand. He mumbled and said “don’t come back here no more.” I wouldn’t want to come back to an establishment that thought they had any right to hold my phone for a tip any day. I immediately called the Glassboro police to sign a complaint on him. I am calling the BBB as well. I should sue him for causing so much anxiety and frustration. Businesses aren’t going to make it chasing customers for a tip. Pay your people more and be fair so they don’t have to live on tips. Shame...
Read moreThis was the absolute worst service I've ever had. Me and my uncle decided to try this out, which turned out to be a terrible idea for the both of us. The server had an attitude and seemed like he was forcing himself to serve us. He was very impatient with us ordering and was becoming irritated with us asking questions about the different menu items. I don't want to play the race card, but it was completely obvious because his demeanor Was completely different whenever he was serving the other two patrons. The gyoza was pretty mediocre and my chicken udon was downright atrocious. The stock tasted like water and soy sauce, the chicken tasted like and had the consistency of rubber, and the noodles were both soft and hard. Its is upsetting because I am a Culinary Specialist in the Navy whos job was to feed and satisfy 3000 hungry mouths for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I believe every foodservice worker (In the armed forces or not) should put all their pride and effort into their culinary/hospitality skills regardless of how you feel about your patrons. I would never recommend this...
