I am definitely a fan and plan on visiting again. It was a little weird trying to figure out their setup initially but I think it's confusing due to them trying to be COVID safe.
So you get there and there's a short staircase leading up to the little cafe. That's where everyone gets in line-- on the stairs. At the top of the stairs is a stand with instructions and a QR code that you scan in order to see the menu. The website is very user-friendly. I had originally told my girlfriend to hold our place in line while I went up the stairs to figure out if there was somewhere we had to put our names down and that's when I saw the instructions and QR code. I think it would be more helpful if that information were located at the bottom of the stairs. I'm lucky I'm had someone with me so we didn't lose our spot, you know what I mean?
The downside is that the wait is a little long when you're parked on the street at a meter. My girlfriend had to go back and put more money in. It's also not shaded at all, so I'm so glad I brought my hat because that sun was OUT. Part of the dining area is also in the sun and there are no umbrellas or shade in that area. Can someone say, "Sunburn"? Yikes! We went on a day that was cool but sunny. I can't imagine what that setup would feel like on a hot, summer day.
The hostess whom I assumed was also the manager or owner had a really over-the-top enthusiasm, friendliness and knowledge. She had so much pride in the cafe and I loved it. The seating was a little disorganized because there was no real system. It was just any employee who was free at the moment quickly cleaning the table once the patrons left, then mentioning or asking any staff member passing by to seat whatever party was waiting either here or over there. Just imagine when you see worker ants passing by each other and kinda of almost bumping into one another and scrambling. LOL, it was like that.
When you get to your turn at the top of the stairs, the sign asks you to scan the QR code to view the menu and to have your order ready before you are allowed inside to place your order. You place your order with the barista, pay, then go back outside to wait to be seated if there isn't a table already available. I originally wanted to try their Shakshuka as well as two other items that day. So I opted for the Parma Mama while my girlfriend got the Thai Chopped Salad.
Our drinks came pretty quickly versus the food, which just took so long. It was also staggered, which I noticed was a common complaint in other reviews. It took a while for the salad to come out, then even longer for my Parma Mama. My friend and I agreed that everything should've come out together as it was awkward for my friend to just sit there and wait with her salad getting warm as we kept checking to see if my dish was going to show up.
My girlfriend loved her hot Butterfly Pea Blue Matcha, made with a sugar-free syrup. We were both impressed that they had plenty of sugar-free choices because many places will just carry a sugar-free vanilla and that's it. It was also nice that their matcha was pure, meaning also sugar-free.
The salad was a very generous portion size but rather underwhelming. While I did like my Parma Mama, I finished it off quickly and was left feeling pretty hungry still afterward. I wished I had ordered more food.
Overall, I still loved the vibe and enjoyed the food and service. I will be coming back again-- still gotta try that Shashuka! It...
Read moreSERVICE IS TERRIBLE! I've ordered from this cafe about 6 times already and every time I have had something go wrong. I have not felt the need to comment on its service but today was it for me. The food is absolutely delicious and they fail in customer service and hospitality. First off, they take super long to make your food, at least 35-45min even if you want to pick up asap.
Second, I had purchased a Groupon of $20 for $40 worth of food, turns out they don't do Groupons anymore but the Groupon is still available for purchase on the Groupon app. I believe it was the manager or owner, she just said "we don't take Groupons, sorry get a refund." Which is fine but she didn't even say, hey sorry for the inconvenience, we will speed up your order especially because I paid $99.50 for a decent size order.
Third, they have a young girl at the register and she does NOT have ANY customer service or hospitality skills. She was not greeting the incoming customers, she was tending to pick-up orders instead of taking orders from the customers that were waiting in line (there was about 8 people and some left after about 10min of waiting). In addition, since I didn't get to redeem the Groupon and paid full price for the items, I would have expected to have a better in-person experience. I ended up ordering a coffee and croissant in addition to the food I had ordered online. The girl at the registered took at least 15mins just to give me the coffee and croissant that was already available in the display case. She also ignored me and went to give the items to my friend who was with me. Then the girl came back to me and said, "oh were you with them?" When I LITERALLY had been interacting with her, placed that order with HER and paid with HER. The girl needs to improve and learn customer service and how to multitask. The cafe is very popular, it's in a great location and the food is amazing but the service sucks so much.
LASTLY, I checked the food and I had specifically ordered a Sausage, egg and cheese sandwich and I got a bacon, egg and cheese. The confirmation email specifically said my order and when I picked up the order, the order receipt had "bacon, egg, cheese sandwich." This cafe is very disorganized, no multi-tasking skills, not attentive to customers, unable to work in a fast-paced environment and do not show empathy or care about customers having a positive...
Read moreWe had to try this trendy restaurant in Glendale, CA and I'm so happy we did! What seems to have been created as a more of a "mom and pop" restaurant for the locals has become such the rage thanks to TikTok!
Because of our current life situations we were greeted at the front of the restaurant and just outside of it. We were asked to scan the code so we knew what we wanted to order.
Once we confirmed that we knew what we wanted, with the hostess, we were given a number and we were told how the process would work. We would be given a number and then asked to go inside to order, then we would have to stand outside and wait in the atrium. We were told our drinks and food would not be prepared until we were seated and that this process would eliminate the time from sitting to eating.
Of course we ordered the house favorite, the Berry Ricotta French Toast at $13, this was amazing and surprisingly not too sweet, crazy ha? We decided to do a naughty and nice so we also ordered a bowl of heaven, actually it's called the Brunch Bowl at $13, and we did our 2 eggs over medium. This was the perfect savory dish with just the right amount of every ingredient from the salsa, to the corn to the sweet potatoes, even the cheese was the perfect amount and check out that avocado...beautiful!
Even our drinks were special, and beautiful and most important different! I ordered the Pink Latte which was a double shot of espresso, house made organic vanilla bean syrup, dragonfruit and milk $6. And my best friend ordered the Butterfly pea tea latte which was organic butterfly pea tea powder, house made organic vanilla bean syrup, and milk $6.
Final thoughts - If you are in the area and looking for a great place to eat with pricing that matches the food, I'd recommend this lovely shop. The food is not forgetful and I love the the presentation and theme of the restaurant as a whole. I didn't love the process and I'm hoping that changes with time. I'm not sure if they were prepared for the amount of traffic they have received or if they always had this process so in time...
