Oishi Sushi — Restaurant in Glendale

We decided to try this restaurant for the first time since our usual spot is closed on Mondays, but unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing.

We started with the rock shrimp appetizer, which arrived with a long black hair in it. The server apologized, but no further action was taken. Next, our cut rolls arrived incorrectly — despite my clear request for soy paper, only one roll was prepared with soy paper while the other came wrapped in seaweed. The seaweed itself was stale and chewy. To make matters worse, as I was eating my lemon roll, I found a small piece of dust or hair attached to the food.

When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told the appetizer had been removed from the bill, but the incorrectly prepared roll was not corrected or replaced. The sushi itself also fell apart easily and did not hold together.

Overall, this was an unpleasant and unsanitary experience. It’s disappointing that a restaurant would serve food in this condition, and unfortunately, it has left me so unsettled that I won’t be eating sushi again...

We dined here for the first time and ordered a lot of drinks and had food. We immediately didn’t like 2 plates, and when we asked for it to be taken back and off the bill, the head chef came to our table yelling at us for not liking the 2 plates! He was absolutely rude and verbally aggressive. He finally backed off and became more respectful when I finally yelled at him. I said I was sorry I did not like the plates but I also shouldn’t have to apologize for not liking them. Customers sending plates back for not liking the food is common in the restaurant industry. He was completely out of line how he spoke to us. This is the first and last time we will dine here. I don’t care what position you are in or even the owner. You never speak to customers that way. As a male, you ESPECIALLY do not have any place to intimidate, speak disrespectfully, or be verbally aggressive towards a woman.

The food was fair and my pickup order was ready on time, but the overall experience was uncomfortable. I had asked for cream cheese to be substituted with cucumber and was surprised to be charged extra for the cucumber. I was also told there would be an extra charge for extra sauce, which I could understand, but what happened next was really awkward. Apparently, the sauces I requested were accidentally packed with someone else’s order. Instead of just giving me new ones, the manager opened the other customer’s bag in front of me, took the sauces out and put them in my order. I felt like she could have just let that order go with a couple extra sauces and given me fresh ones. It was an unnecessarily tense moment that could’ve been handled more gracefully.
