Seaweed Handroll Bar — Restaurant in Glendale

Sadly we were majorly disappointed. Misleading photos on their Instagram. What we ordered, did not come out at all looking like what they post. We even told our server and showed him photo of what we got and how photo looked, and what we got was way different!! His response “ we have different sushi chefs” so basically we are out of luck. Portions small for price. The spicy rolls were excessively spicy and not smooth and creamy spice either. Recommend you stay away from their overly spicy rolls as or anything that says spicy. all you could taste was heavy hot spice not pleasing. Blue crab roll was the only good thing, but inconsistency appears again as my roll was a good size and my friends roll was literally 1/2 the size. Embarrassing, as i ate and i felt guilty that i had the bigger handroll. Spicy tuna on crispy rice was over spicy and not fresh tasting ahi either, and the rice was hard and stale not crispy. The crispy shrimp were cooked well but just tasted like orange zest overpowering shrimp. The Salmon maki smoked was a nice touch and decent. We were served a wrong item which the waiter corrected . Very small portions on every dish. The price & 18% gratuity included was definitely not worth what we ate. Service was sub par, as server spent most of the time in the back kitchen. We were the only customers so service should of been good. We had to wait and wait to get anyones attention. The atmosphere is not great. Blaring loud horrible eating music and it was LOUD. Went for lunch and the restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday. They only have counter seating so glad it wasn’t busy so we had space between us and the next group of people.

There’s definitely a mixture of pricy and moderately priced sushi. I love watching the chefs make each dish which unfortunately makes me want to try everything.

Ordered the glazed crispy shrimp, lobster crispy rice, blue crab hand roll, albacore roll, and the seared black cod. Then we saw something cool across the way in a smoker dish. We asked what it was an it was $50 sushi dish. Unfortunately we didn’t want to spend $50 for two pieces of sushi kamatoro but the waiter offered an alternative with the same presentation which was the salmon w/ caviar. Definitely very picture worthy and also tasted fresh with a Smokey flavor. Everything was really good and definitely would go back to try other dishes. It’s not the cheapest sushi but service and food was top notch.

We usually order regularly from this place, and they were great, even though they are very expensive, but the quality and service was worth it. Lately, the service and the food quality has dropped. I really tried to avoid posting a bad review, and tried to resolve the problem by calling then directly. We ordered through postmates, and marked to receive utensils. When order arrived, one of the cut rolls was wrong, no chopsticks or napkins were put with the order, and no soy sauce was included. When I called them to tell them about it, the associate that picked up the call was nice and said "let me talk to the manager and see what she can do." The manager was very careless and her idea of fixing the problem was to put in the notes for next time. Not sure how that fixes the situation for this time, but her carelessness made me write this review. The place is overpriced, and since food and service quality has dropped, definitely not worth the current price. I have no problem paying the premium, as long as I get the premium quality.
