Read moreMuch like many of the celebrities that it grooms, courts, and unleashes into a world previously better, LA has regressed into a washed-up, out-of-shape, “fat Elvis” echo of its former glory. Drugs infesting the minds of the weak and poor, homelessness terrorizing its own victims and the surrounding public, taxes robbing the working class, governments failing their people—this is a failed city.
Yet, in the midst of the calamity a shining gem illuminates. And that gem, ladies and gentlemen, is Jincook.
This place allures passerby’s with its clean presentation and artistically rich interior (modeled after an old Korean street mart). The staff will kindly welcome you, but not let their pleasantries interrupt patrons from the reason of their bringing here. Once seated and familiarized with the menu (prices of which are fair in this awful economy), patrons have but one decision to make. A decision not even a counsel of brilliant minds the world over could easily agree on: “what will you order?” Needless to say, some deep soul searching is required.
After an appropriate waiting time—the sweet spot between quick enough to reward your desolate innards yet long enough to confirm a quality meal has been prepared—patrons are gifted with cuisine unrivaled in execution. The firm and nutritious rice, the cooked and refined meats, the multitude of side dishes, the hearty and warm soups—it is all fantastic. Yes dear reader, even now I feel a purr from the depths of my own stomach as I recall this truly ethereal experience.
Hail to the quality of artisan craft. Jincook has it in spades. Hail to those who fight for glory in the face of despair (that was a dig at LA). And Hail to a healing world where the burdened are comforted by humanity putting its best foot forward. Jincook is...
Read moreI've got to be honest... I've got mixed feelings about this place, but I'm definitely willing to come back to try out different menu items. First of all, their banchan is amazing. They only serve kimchi, pickled radish, and pickled onions but damn they're pretty good. I'd believe them if they told me they had cute Korean grandmas making all the banchans in the kitchen. The food, for me, is where Jin Cook fell short. While it's not what they're known for, I ordered the Army Stew because I wanted something hearty and spicy and while the flavor of the broth was good, they didn't really put much in the stew. If you ever order Army Stew at a restaurant in Ktown, you'll get a bowl PACKED with veggies and canned/processed meats and ramen noodles, but unfortunately I was left wanting more. My girlfriend ordered the Sweet Pumpkin Cheese Curry Katsu and we both liked it. The pumpkin flavor is very subtle and quiet but the dish as a whole was good and filling. While there aren't a lot of servers, they were all very nice and did their best to help everyone. There is paid parking in the back but there should be plenty of free street parking as well. Overall, I would probably pass on the army stew and get one of their other...
