The Bridgewater Grill Is Golden!!!
On my last night in Golden and my last night at the Golden Hotel, I got together with a group from my business meeting and The Colorado School of Mines. Many of the restaurants in town were either booked or could not accommodate our group. One of our group suggested we just eat in the hotel at the Bridgewater Grill. I had stopped at the Bridgewater earlier in the day on my way for a walk on the Clear Creek Trail and had a chance to look at the menu. A combination of classics with an infusion of locally grown foods had made the restaurant appealing to me. I was lucky as the group was hungry after a long day of meetings an a tour of the school.
Our group sat down and we ordered some local craft beers and some Coors beers as well as a few bottles of wine. The ambiance was just great as it followed the theme of the hotel, but with a modern twist to the decor and furniture. The restaurant was able to seat a group of just over 20 comfortably. You can access the Bridgewater Grill from the main entrance, the parking lot entrance and right off Clear Creek and during warmer months they have patio seating outside.
First up, we ordered some apps for the group to share. Only three apps made it to our side of the table but we make do with what we had. My first taste was the House-Made Hummus Duet consisting of roasted garlic and lemon beet hummus served with farm vegetables and toasted pita. A light and refreshing starter, oozing with flavour and not overly garlicky. The next plate to make its way to me was the Loaded Skins, locally grown potato skins heaped with bacon, scallions, a divine smoked cheddar cheese sauce, drizzled with roasted poblano crema. Think about that for a second, yes it's as good as it sounds. Although ravaged by the time it reached me our third shared app was the delicious Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Pork Belly, topped with balsamic reduction, goat milk feta, dried cranberries and oranges, a most delectable dish. I ordered a cup of the famous Rosa’s Award-Winning Pork Green Chili, which was spiced just right, with a bit of kick but not a dish that will make your clothes stick to you.
Finally, my main course came out, and let me tell this was a work of art, the Bacon-Wrapped Colorado Bison Meatloaf served with garlic mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, tomato bacon jam, and a demi-glaze. Wow, just wow as I tore into those moist juicy and tender slices of meatloaf, the bacon gave the dish just enough smoky and saltiness to add to the experience. This dish was on point.
Our overall experience was great, the service was phenomenal, the food was timed perfectly and no one waited longer than expected for their meals, even though we had ordered more apps after the first plates were dropped. That's a good sign that they know what they are doing. I did not get a chance to do a more thorough review as I was eating, and hanging with my peeps. I eat and travel all over North America, I do hope I get a chance to eat here again. If you're ever in Golden Colorado check out The Bridgewater Grill, you won't be...
Read moreI called before visiting to check on wait times, read on for more on that. My wife and I rode our bikes with our two young children from a nearby park to eat here. The host and manager were very kind and respectful in spite of my being upset (again, read on for further). We were seated on their lovely patio overlooking the river and trail. The food and service were both excellent. I highly recommend eating here, but it does get busy so put your name down in advance, they'll text you when your table is ready.
Here's the part that made this a frustrating experience for me. It's hard to know who's at fault so I wanted to give the restaurant a fair review in spite of everything else. This restaurant is located within the Golden Hotel. Apparently, when the restaurant can't pick up a phone call, it rings over to the front desk. When I called in shortly before noon, I was told by the front desk that the patio was wide open and she specifically said that they didn't see that changing anytime soon. We were a short 5-10 minute bike ride from the restaurant so I was pretty surprised when I showed up and was told the wait was 40-45 minutes and that there were 10 parties ahead of me. I wound up putting my name in for a table anyway but wasn't happy that we needed to wait so long. The restaurant manager told me that the front desk shouldn't have said the patio was open because they'd been busy for some time. When I asked the front desk what happened, I spoke directly to Erin who is the person I spoke to on the phone. She insisted that she was going by what the restaurant told her. This kind of finger pointing isn't helpful to anyone. I personally feel that the restaurant isn't likely to spread false information like this due to the frustration it causes to their customers so I'll assume that Erin was just not willing to get the information and just made something up.
Long story short, if you get the hotel front desk when you call the restaurant, just hang up and wait a few minutes to call back. The front desk...
Read moreMy mom and I did our annual mother/daughter trip in Golden, CO this year. I had made a reservation in advance at Bridgewater and had selected outdoor seating. When we arrived no one was at the host stand, but there was a sign that said "please wait for host to seat you" so we sat down and waited for the host to return. A few minutes later the host showed up and I said we had a reservation for outside. The host said that someone was wrapping up and we should be seated within the next 5 min. Not a problem at all, so we sat back down and waited. The host walked away and another party came to host stand and decided to not wait and seat themselves. The host came back a few minutes later and said that the party that sat themselves took our table and that they'll get us a different table. A few more minutes passed and we saw another party go past the host stand and seat themselves at an open table outside. Finally, another host came up and asked what was going on and we said we were waiting to be seated outside, she finally got us sat at a table with an umbrella. Our server, Ashlyn (I think) was wonderful and very nice/attentive. Not too long into being seated at the table it started to rain and the umbrella coverage wasn't quite enough to sit outside without getting a little wet. Had we been seated at our original table that was taken by the party that seated themselves we would've been under the covered patio. We asked to sit inside and got seated quickly. The server for our indoor table started by saying "I heard we've had some issues with getting a table this evening"...he probably meant no harm by it, but it had already been a less than ideal situation given we had made a reservation in advance so it rubbed us both the wrong way. The food was subpar and the mussels were very small and the caesar salad was mostly the light parts of the romaine (water) and not the leafy green part...seemed like it came out of a bag and was not fresh. I would skip this place and go to...
