Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Goodyear

Visited this location on a Saturday after noon. as well as a couple day's before my birthday, wanting to enjoy some delicious appetizers & drinks w/my family. The food was amazing & usually is, location is clean, & pretty friendly staff too! Well...to my mistake I was under the impression that Happy Hour was 3-6 p.m. everyday of the week, even on weekends. But, of course the hour's have to change up on Friday's - Sunday's. We only expected to order half price app's & drinks, which was plenty enough. The waiter was friendly & attentive, but the big issue is they didn't even warn me, as I was pointing out on the Happy Hour menu to order from that it was not in fact Happy Hour time/prices right now. Get the bill & it's more than $40 higher than anticipated. Advised our waiter, who apologized, stated they only focus on serving the food & don't always remember to mention if it's Happy Hour time or not. To me, being in customer service for so many year's now, that's called not doing your job effectively & passing the blame somewhere else. Now I realize I am really the one who is at fault & made the accidental mistake. I was being nice & joking w/the waiter, asked if an exception might be done at my expense. Few min's later, a manager came over & I told him what had happened. All they did was say if they try to ring it in on the register, it won't let them give the Happy Hour prices & can only make an exception in, "extreme circumstances." Well, I said couldn't this be considered that now, in light of me unknowingly not realizing the food & drinks were regular prices, plus my B-Day is only a couple day's away. Manger replied by telling me, "If they do it for me, then they'd have to do it for everyone else who asked. But, we could give you a free dessert for your birthday." Really?! Wow! Thanks for nothing. Didn't take their free dessert offer & wrote a little note on the receipt to let them know I wasn't very happy w/the service. Overall, I know it was my mistake to begin with, but w/the rising cost of everything these day's, it would have been nice to get a break from a well know Chain Restaurant. Disappointed and felt taken...

My wife, daughter, and I come to this location often and usually are satisfied with the food and service. Today however I was extremely disappointed not only with the food but with the service we recieved. My wife ordered the new spicy chicken sandwich and it came out looking really dark and dry. She had me try it and it was the most horrible thing I have ever tasted in my life. I know a lot about food as I am a Chef. We complained to the server who was amazing and didnt question us immediately took her food back and brought her something else. What bothered me was the after nath from our complaint. First the chef of the chicken came out and immediately asked if it was just too spicy. From what I tasted it was not spicy at all but had a flavor of more of a nasty oil fishy asian flavor to it. We love spice which is why my wife ordered the sandwich. When we tried to explain what we thought was wrong with it the chef kindly brushed it off and then joked about my shirt. Then the general manager came and started questioning us again like we didnt know what we were talking about. I pointed out a few things to him like the fact the the chicken breast was extremely dark so there might be something wrong with the oil. He went as far as grabbing the sauce to show me that its dark and thats why the chicken is dark. No sir I'm sorry but that does not change the fact that the spicy chicken sandwich dish was horrible. We are not one to complain or write comments or reviews but the fact that they kept trying to place the blame else where instead of excepting the fact that we just didnt like the food was uncalled for. I am leaving two reviews here. First was a five-star experience with my wife . We came in mid afternoon, and the service was very good. I can not remember the waitresses name, unfortunately. The next evening I came by with a friend. After we were seated, we ordered out food. We ordered water with lemon as well as other drinks. We had to ask a second time for the waters. We waited! Others who came in after us were eating, but nothing else came to our table. Then finally the food came after about 45 minutes. I asked immediately for some honey bbq sauce for my fries. The waiter said it would be an up charge. Hmm, I never had an uncharged before. We skipped the sauce. He left, and we noticed that the fries were cold. Not just cool, but cold! Then, when I picked up my chicken sandwich, the entire bottom of the bun fell out soggy wet. It was also cold. At that point, we asked for the manager. He offered to remake the food and fix the issue, but we had burned an hour on a tight schedule already. We were not charged and left. I believe the entire issue was the new waiter. He seemed to bounce around and get a little overwhelmed. Likely forgot our order. An experienced one would have been on top of it right away. I would definitely come back to this location due to my prior experiences here.
