First of all, like many, if you know this place from back in their taco truck days, you will be disappointed when trying them again at their now physical location. In short, the meat was nowhere near the same quality as it was previously—it was tough, diced small and not in slices like before, and was cold as well. Guacamole was bright green for whatever reason, not natural as it has been in the past. Tacos were also smaller and skimpy, and only came with ONE tortilla, for a street taco. I’ve been eating tacos since I was an infant—street tacos ALWAYS have two. Mind you, we went on a Friday, ordered JUST seven tacos to go, six carne asada and one al pastor, so nothing overly complicated, and staff was still incredibly slow in giving us our order—40 minutes minimum. They are not the same place as before. This place is no longer worth the price. It used to be justifiable due to the quality of the meat but again, they are open seven days a week now instead of two, so there’s bound to be some shortage of something somewhere. Really sad :(
I do not like to normally leave bad reviews, but I just don’t want people to be disappointed like me after being excited to try the place at the new location.
It’s kind of ironic, because the staff wears shirts that state, “Not Your Average Taco.” This used to be the case, but not now since getting established. I would argue that it is below average and definitely over priced compared to the quality, taste, and affordability of other great places in Phoenix. Taste is simply just okay here. Places like Tacos Calafia, however, do not disappoint despite having multiple locations. Consistency is key, and Tacos Barbón does not have it. Hopefully they take their short comings and learn from them—I wish them the best.
**Side note: My family derives directly from Guadalajara and KNOWS what actual birria is (goat), and this place is sadly another one of those places that hopped onto the unauthentic birria train (beef). Very sad to see yet another Mexican place fall flat and serve unauthentic food from Jalisco—it’s an insult to the culture there in our state and one that is very rampant among Mexican establishments. If you’re not going to respect the dish and serve it correctly, just don’t do it! Avoid spreading misinformation and wrong expectations! Do not come here if you are expecting to eat authentic traditional Mexican food. Instead, please head to El Güero Birria de Chivo for actual birria and handmade tortillas—you will not be...
Read moreLast night was my first time having dinner at Tacos Barbon. I first saw them on Instagram/ Facebook and their videos of them smoking/ grilling their meats looked delicious. There were three of us for dinner. We started with 'Chips and Fire Roasted Salsa', this was delicious, we loved the roasted flavors. We also shared the Queso Fundido as an appetizer, which was also very tasty. The Chorizo was not dried out, and what can you not like about baked cheese! One of their signature items is the Red 'Birria' Tacos with Consome. They lived up to their reviews, and we loved them. I tried a single Papa 'Potato' Taco. It was very yummy, especially dunked in the consome from the Red Tacos. We also had a platter of Chimi Fries. These were good, and definitely meant to be an appetizer. One of the ladies in my group tried these as her meal, and the amount of fries presented needed to be shared amongst a large table of friends. The toppings were tasty. The only detractors to this place is the restaurant itself. It doesn't speak Mexican Street Tacos it speaks Continental Breakfast in a hotel. The other suggestion we made is provide bigger napkins. The napkins they provided were the flimsy kind you might pull out of a napkin holder at a fast food restaurant and not suitable for 'Dipping drippy consome tacos'. At the end of our meals, each of us had a pile of little napkins the size of a cantaloupe. This place is a little pricy, but most places are these days, but we were prepared as we viewed the menu ahead of time and noticed it's mostly A la carte. I don't know if the chips were free by themselves, but the Chips and Roasted Salsa are not. The Red and Green Containers of sauce they brought out to the table went mostly untouched when the roasted salsa made it's appearance. I would definitely go back. There are some menu items I want to try next time. Thank you Tacos Barbon for...
Read moreThe only reason this review is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is due to the fact that their stuffed Jalapeños saved our dinner from being a 1 star review. To give this taco joint a bit of credit, the stuffed Jalapeños were phenomenal, but that's where it ends for us. To start off we ordered a few Al pastor tacos, some barbron style rib eye tacos, and a chicken mini-dilla. The corn tortillas are horrible, you know when you leave a few corn tortillas out of the pack enough time for it to get hard and stiff? Well that's what our tortillas were like. Tortillas were definitely not fresh and too chewy. A tortilla in a taco should be on point enough to complement the meat, but there wasn't a complement for either side, because the Al pastor was salty and hard as a rock and drier that beef Jerky. This was definitely not what we expected. The Barbon style taco was a bit better than the Al Pastor due to the rib eye being amazing and buttery, but the two snack sized rib eye slices in the taco were enough to get a hamster full and was not satisfied with the portion, and again the tortilla was worse than Taco bell on an off day. The mini-dilla chicken was good, but the cheese 🧀 definitely not authentic to a true Mexican quesadilla. Now this review is not to destroy this business , as I hoestly hope this could serve as a sign for improvement because this spot has A LOT of potential. My advice to the owners. Please read all the 1 star reviews on here and use that as a positive point to improve your business as most 1 star reviews here seem to be very similar. I do hope you take from this and turn your business into 5 stars some day....
