Don't.Eat.Here. I was going to say my original review (below) was harsh but, nah. The owner replied to it by trying to call me a liar rather than actually try to explain or ask questions so they can better their business or improve my review of the place. I think it perfectly exemplifies what is wrong with this place. Embarrassing. Made sure to screenshot and add it to my review so all can see them defend, not knowing the difference between 'melted cheese' and 'cheese sauce/rue' (that cheese never became solid again), not knowing how to season mac n cheese with salt only, defend not knowing how to make mac n cheese look like mac n cheese without dying the noodles orange, and defend that they believe the only difference between a crunchy fry and a soggy fry is if it's been frozen (if the only difference between crunchy and soggy fries is if they're frozen or fresh, then In-N-Out would never have a crispy fry ever). Also, if I wanted to eat healthy I wouldn't be eating out at a barbecue restaurant getting 'melted cheese' on my 'holy cow'. The 'guy' seems like a real ~treat~✨ Original Review: "Run away!!! This place was bad. We ordered, it wasn't cheap then we got off the road for a minute and went to eat and there was CANNED CHEESE on the sandwich.🤢🤮 The menu just said 'cheese' so like a reasonable person you think a slice on the sandwich, nope, like canned neon easy cheese. I couldn't even take more than one bite of the tough brisket that was covered in the stuff. Also, the Mac n cheese noodles were also an industrial bright yellow and they must've just forgotten salt altogether and forgotten that French fries should be crispy, they were so so soggy. If you're from under a rock or far countryside and don't know any better, I'm sure it's fine. If you have had good BBQ before, dont go. Also the guys there were so standoffish and made us feel uncomfortable to be there."

The food here is good for northern Idaho. However, for barbecue, there is definitely better out there. I recommend stopping and eating here. Just don't get your hopes too high as to what you will receive as the portions are a little smaller than expected. The meat, however, is very good! The brisket on the sandwiches melts in your mouth, and the French fries are cooked just right with a good seasoning. The Mac and cheese is pretty good, and the barbecue sauce pretty much makes up for any of the shortcomings of the dishes. I do recommend eating here on your way through grangeville, but don't get yourself disappointed by expecting true southern barbecue

When in Grangeville, look no further for a place to dine! The ribs were amazing. It’s the best meal I’ve had in a restaurant in a very long time. Plus, the service was amazing! There were only two women working and they handled the bar and restaurant like two superwomen! In a restaurant/bar of that size, it wouldn’t be uncommon to have at least six staff working. The two women had a couple of tables of ten and a full bar and I didn’t see anyone waiting for service and provided excellent service to me. Kudos to you ladies!

RESPONSE TO OWNER:

I didn't order a sandwich so I'm confused why you are justifying me receiving sandwich meat on a BBQ plate by saying it is already sliced. What barbecue restaurant pre-slices brisket for a plate?

And oh so pellets huh? Yeah that does explain no smoke ring... Authentic.

But anyway, Google a photo of sliced brisket. Then it becomes very clear that YOU have no idea what sliced brisket is, well maybe you do for a deli sandwich. I've seen more authentic sliced brisket then you can imagine. Technically because you haven't made any yet. They would slap you in the South for what you call brisket.

I also like how you boast about being a restaurant owner and that means you must know what you are doing. I have news for you, having a doctorate degree doesn't mean someone isn't an idiot.

You then go on to agree the Mac N Cheese is garbage but hey, "the kids like it". Kids also eat their own boogers. I would probably call CPS if I seen you serve that to a kid.

I realize now the 4.7 star rating you do have was partially built from the previous owners. I doubt you both have the same recipes but maybe you do. I don't believe it's hard to keep that small town happy. If they all took a trip to Texas, Carolinas, Mississippi, Tennessee you would probably have a different rating.

And yes, I not only know what real barbeque is but I could make the same things as you. The difference is mine would be edible and delicious because I know how to cook and don't just "own a business".

I gave an honest review and made it clear I didn't have fine dining expectations at all so just own up to it and do some research on "Southern Style Barbeque". ORIGINAL REVIEW

I am writing this review very honestly based on our visit. The service was why I considered one extra star. After eating here I'm not sure where the 4.7 star rating is from. There are some Michelin restaurants that don't have that rating and this is far from that status. I didn't expect that level of quality but I expected something good for this star rating.

When you walk in the main door there is a door on the left or right. Pick one as you aren't really sure which one to choose. We took the left and went into a bar style area with seating for the restaurant. The restaurant has had a lot done to where it was actually nice inside with the theme chosen. The only downside to this part is the dark lighting.

PREFACE: I travel a lot and have had tried barbeque everywhere. I am well aquatinted with "Southern Barbecue" as their sign out front states.

After ordering I received my food.

BRISKET: What the hell is this? The first thing I noticed was how thinly shaved it was, almost like it was sandwich meat. My guess is to serve less as it didn't add up to what other restaurants would serve. There was absolutely no smoke ring on any of it. The taste didn't resemble brisket in any of the places I've had it. The smoke used(I'm going to say cedar) tasted of something that would have been used for fish and wasn't a smoke I've ever tasted on brisket, it didn't work.

BARBECUE SAUCE: This was Baby Ray's and I know because I seen them carry a big jug of it by our table. I've never seen a legitimate barbeque place that doesn't make their own sauce. The flavor wasn't there.

MAC N CHEESE: Okay, this was shocking. Have you ever had it from KFC? That's what it was and the flavor wasn't good. Also, when you put this in your mouth the texture was like pudding. The noodles we so overcooked and disintegrated into mush as they touched my tongue.

COLESLAW: Surprisingly good. Not overly sweet. Crunchy and fresh cabbage.

FRIES: These were amazing. The seasoning used was delicious and perfect for these.

ICE TEA: This tasted old.

BEANS: These were obviously Van De Camps or Bush's canned beans, nothing special at all.

DESSERT: How does a Southern Barbecue place not have any dessert options?

Overall I...

I went to this restaurant after a very long day of work with my crew. As we sat down to order, a larger blonde lady came up to take our order. After she took the first persons order, she came to me for my order. I proceeded to ask her which of your house pizzas were her favorite. She told me the old Smokey, I said okay let’s go with that, then I went on to finish the conversation I was having. Before she left however, I told her I wanted to get the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer. She then asked “ is that all you would like to start? I answered yes. Thinking she had already taken my main order like I asked her to previously. After everyone had eaten and was asking for boxes. My pizza had not been delivered. I asked the lady to also put my pizza in a box. She proceeded to ask me “what pizza?” When I tried explaining to her the situation she got extremely rude and actually started yelling at me and my crew. I was shocked. Saying things like I was just trying to argue. I understand that my order may have not been clear. But it’s your job to make sure of that. I later learned that she had been fired from another establishment...
