We’ve eaten at the Blue Goose chain for over thirty years. Greenville Ave (closed), Addison (closed), Mckinney and so on. Generally both the food and service has varied between good and great. That said, tonight at the Grapevine location the food was ok and the service was as bad as I’ve ever experienced at any restaurant.
The story goes like this, we sat for thirty minutes before anyone including the waiter named Taylor came to greet us. She took our drink and food order and then disappeared for another 20 minutes. I finally grew impatient and went to the bar to see what was going on. I asked the bartender about our drinks that we had ordered from the waiter. He said no drink order has been turned in and that the order had to be placed by the waiter. I told him that our waiter sucked and was nowhere to be found. Luckily a more senior waiter overheard our dialogue and stepped up and took our drink order.
Upon returning to our table and forty minutes into this, my wife pointed out that we still did not have chips, salsa, water nor silverware. And still no waiter. So I went back to another staff member and asked for normal items that you receive at a TexMex restaurant.
Still worried that maybe our food order hadn’t been placed, I went again back to the only one who apparently cared, the senior bartender, to ask him to check on our food. He did so gladly. Shortly thereafter, he along with our long gone waiter finally came out with our food.
My wife’s tacos were cold and my chicken fajitas were overcooked and stuck to the iron. Not good!
Awhile later, we wanted our second round of drinks. Guess what, our waiter never came back after our food delivery to check on us. Finally, she appeared and took our drink order. And again like ten minutes went by and no drinks. So again for the 4th time I went back to the to the bartender only to find our drinks waiting for the waiter. I asked the bartender if I could bring them to our table and he said, “Yes.”
We finished our food and yet again waited to ask for our bill. Finally, our waiter came and we asked for our bill. This time she actually got we asked for as it was tip time $$$.
So frustrated and for the first time in probably 20 years, I tipped $0 to the waiter and took a $20 bill to the only one who helped, the senior bartender.
On the way out the door, I asked the hostess of there was a manager on duty. She promptly went into the kitchen and a lady that we had never seen before on the dining room floor came out of the kitchen. She was too late for my needs. She said though that she heard about the drinks and such. She did apologize though. Again, too little, too late!
Sorry Blue Goose I ain’t...
Read moreI just ate there with my son, daughter in love, daughter and 8 month old grandson. I had just been picked up from the airport from a flight from Colorado. I hadn't eaten mexican food for a week. I was looking forward to a margarita, good food and fellowship with my family. I just turned 55,my children are 28,24,and my daughter in love is 24. I had gone to the restroom and asked my kids to order a margarita and a water for me if I wasn't back by the time they came for the order. When I returned to the table, my kids told me they wouldn't place the order until I returned. When the waitress brought the chips and salsa, I was able to place my drink order. When a gentleman delivered my drink to the table, he told me I could have it as long as I kept it away from the baby. I am not sure what he meant by this. I would never give my 8 month old grandson alcohol. My son and daughter in love ordered margaritas for themselves. When their drinks arrived, they were not advised to keep their drinks from the baby. In fact, my daughter in loves drink was spilled on my grandson. We ordered our food and was having a good time catching up. The restaurant wasn't busy at about 9:15 p.m.. It closed at 10 p.m.. Our food took over 30 minutes to get to the table. In the meantime, our waitress didn't replenish our chips and salsa or ask if we needed anything. We finally got our food. It was good, but the service was sub par. It seemed as though we were we were just a pain in their backside. I don't know what is happening to the service industry, but if you care anything about a tip, you gotta do better than that. At minimum, don't assume I, at 55, are going to give my 8 month old grandson my margarita. It was just an awful vibe after coming from a state that was so friendly. I was born and bread from Texas and it was very disappointing to come home and be treated like we were outsiders. In all honesty, while in Colorado, we got the same vibe in some places. It seems that restaurants have the attitude that they don't care if you give them their business or not. Nevertheless, I gave a tip, even though I don't feel like our waitress deserved it. They made us feel like they didn't even want us there. Don't worry, we won't be back...
Read moreWe arrive and are asked if we'd like a high top table in the bar, and we agreed. The greeter took us to the tables and left. We were not given any menus at that point. After about 15 minutes, a guy came and brought us some chips and dip, but turned and left right after dropping it off. So now, about 30 minutes into sitting down, we have chips and dip, no menus, and no drinks. Finally, the bartender comes to the table and asks what drinks we would like. My wife asked what kind of red wine they had, and she answered that they just have a house, so my wife said she'd take that. I asked what kind of tequila they had because I wanted a margarita. I asked if they had Don Julio resposado or anjeo. She said that they didn't have any anjeo but did have resposado. I said I would take margarita with Don Julio resposado with Tajin on the rim then. The bartender then asks me if I'd like a top shelf or not??? I asked, isn't Don Julio top shelf here? She says, "Oh yes," then leaves. Another 10 minutes pass, and we still don't have any menus. I got up and went to the hostesses stand to get us some menus, and the hostess is on her phone. I tell her that we forgot to get menus, and I take 2 from the side of the stand. She didn't even acknowledge me and continued texting on her phone. I got back to the table, and finally, the bartender brings back my margarita, and it has salt on the rim. I asked if they ran out of tajin, and she freaked out and said she forgot and then asked my wife if she wanted her drink on the rocks or frozen. Confused, my wife reiterated that she ordered red wine. She again freaked out, apologizing, and my wife then said she'd just take a margarita as well. All this said, my tacos were good, but the service just puzzled us. It wasn't very busy, but we don't know what they were dealing with, but we definitely know that it wasn't very good service.
