First time there. Sooooo glad that I found it!! 9th Street South Taco Shop is a legitimate, authentic Mexican Taco Shop, unlike the Americanized "Mexican" food you find elsewhere in GF. The owner is from San Diego, so he knows REAL Mexican food.
9th Street South is my new favorite go-to spot for tacos and burritos any time I travel to GF. I live an hour north, so unfortunately I can't go as often as I'd like to.
I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos (4) and the Carne Asada Burrito. You also get free chips & salsa. I ordered to-go and brought it home with me. It smelled so goddamn good that I almost pulled over on the side of the freeway to start eating right there, but I held off.
I did eat the chips and salsa on the way home though. The chips were some of the best I've ever had. No joke. And the salsa was really good too.
When I got home, I ate the Carne Asada tacos. Holy shyte, how I missed real tacos!! Soooo good!! It did fill me up, so I saved the Carne Asada Burrito for the next day.
The Carne Asada Burrito was amazing too, even cold the next day. And it's a big burrito. I will definitely be ordering both of these again.
I bought two bottled sodas as well. Sprite and Grape Soda. They carry the old school glass bottles too. Super cool and better tasting!
I also purchased 4 bottles of hot sauce that were on the counter. Unfortunately, I did not look closely enough at the bottles, and when I got home, I noticed one of the bottles was already opened and a quarter of it was gone.
I won't use it because I don't know what may or may not have happened to it by random customers. Hopefully the owner will let me exchange it next time I'm in town. If not, then 🤷🏽♂️.
I still absolutely love the place and highly recommend it if you want real authentic Mexican food. I was there early in the evening and the owner was the only one working. Not sure if he employs more people, but you may have to wait about 15-30 minutes for your food if he's busy, but it is DEFINITELY worth the wait!

Read moreThis place is amazing. We are from out of town. Just spending the night in Great Falls. We tried to get food at the restaurant across the parking lot. Got to that restaurant just as they were closing and was turned away. We noticed this taco shop next to the casino and thought we would try it. The owner was getting ready to close, but he took our orders and spent time talking to us after the food was prepared. The food was amazing. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Even the chips were amazing. This is currently a one-man operation. I would not consider it fast food, but the food is wonderful. Well worth the wait. And if he has time to talk, that makes the experience even better. I'm currently over 700 mi away, and wish I was closer. I hope he is still in business the next time I drive through Montana, definitely worth the effort...
Read moreAs a Mexican man from Southern California, I’ve been on the hunt for authentic Mexican food in Montana, and let me tell you—9th Street Taco delivers the goods. I ordered the carne asada tacos, chips and salsa, and a Coke, and it was hands down the best Mexican food I’ve had in Great Falls, or frankly, all of Montana.
The carne asada tacos were perfection—tender, flavorful, and grilled just right. The tortillas tasted fresh and had that perfect balance of softness and sturdiness to hold all the goodness together. The salsa had the right amount of kick and paired beautifully with the crispy, well-seasoned chips.
This place brought me back to the taquerias of SoCal. It’s as authentic as it gets up here in Big Sky Country. Whether you’re craving tacos or just need a taste of real Mexican food, 9th Street Taco is a must-visit. I’ll...
