QTea used to be a favorite of mine, but after today’s visit, I will not be back. The experience is totally different and I’m not sure if that’s due to new ownership, changes to business model, or both.
The customer service is the only thing that stood out about today’s visit. The young woman working was quick to greet me and take my order. She was also genuinely apologetic when explaining recent changes to their menu and rewards program.
I was disappointed by a few things:
They no longer offer hot tea served in tea pots. This was the main draw & excitement of their “tea house” experience. This used to be available when they originally opened on Oneida St. I’m not sure if that changed when they first moved to Military Ave or if it happened recently after moving locations. Either way, their website still lists this as an offering.
Hot tea brewed from their loose-leaf blends comes in one size in cheap styrofoam/plastic cups that LEAK. At first I thought it was me making the mess but nope…they leak after every sip and the turmeric ginger tea stains 😭 They no longer serve small snacks. They used to offer delicious tea cookies and I was sad to see that’s no longer the case. Usually a “tea house” will offer some kind of light snack to accompany the tea. It is not a cozy spot to sit and enjoy your tea and boba. The patio seems inviting for warmer nights but inside during the winter time was kind of miserable. I kept my jacket on the entire time because it was so chilly in there even while sipping on hot tea. My nose was noticeably cold if that tells you anything. Seating does not encourage a “tea house” experience. There is about 11 hard chairs total (including bench) for inside seating. They have one comfy, leather couch that could fit maybe 4 people that’s right in front of the door and sliding garage doors. So you get a nice blast of cold air every time someone comes and goes. People should be encouraged to sit for a bit and take their time enjoying their drinks and socialize. They no longer offer froyo. Wasn’t a concern of mine as I stopped by for tea but it is still advertised on their website. Their response to some low-rated customer reviews is EMBARRASSING. A respectable business takes the time to professionally address low reviews. If you read through some old low rated reviews, some of the replies from the owner are straight up rude and disrespectful. You should care about your reputation and handle customer complaints with tact, even when they may be unkind in delivering their experience. No more rewards program. Notification was not given to folks who were earning points from previous visits either. This is sad as I think it’s a small way to show appreciation for returning customers. Also, not notifying previous rewards members of this change seems in bad taste. Customers are more responsive to business changes when they get a heads up.
Based off this and their unprofessional remarks made to past customers online, I will not be back. I debated leaving 2 stars because they really do have quality tea and some of their boba drinks are good but their behavior online is unacceptable. It’s sad because I was really rooting for this business in previous years. They were the first of their kind in the area when they first opened and moving to a new, upgraded building was exciting to see. With this recent experience, it just left me disappointed to see things changed...
Read moreI love Q tea! It has a great atmosphere and lots of options. Im glad one is being built so close on military.
Updated review!!! I can no longer claim to be a fan of this establishment. I have never been impressed with the Qtea on military but my expierence last friday really hit home the frustration I'd been feeling. First of all let me preface this by I'm an avid tea lover herbal and all. I frequented Qtea quite a bit and had almost worked my way up to my 3rd free drink with their rewards program (buy 10 get one free).I was notified about a month ago that they were no longer offering this deal nor would they be going foward with any type of rewards program which was to say the least disappointing since I had gone in expecting to recieve a free drink. This friday I had gone in and ordered a thai milk tea (one of my personal favorites). I made it halfway across town before trying it and immediately realized it didn't taste right. It tasted spoiled in all honesty, so I opened the lid and smelled the liquid... it smelled like spoiled half n half... now I know Qtea is dairy free and that use some sort of powered milk so I asked my partner to try it (also a fan of thai milk tea) he agreed it did not taste right at all. Now for a 5 dollar drink its this already frustrating to recieve something that tastes bad and unusual.I decided to give the shop a call just to let them know this was my expierence maybe one of their mix in had expired or gone bad etc etc. No one would answer, so I sent them a message letting them know again hey this is what my expierence was please check on your product.. no response. The lack of customer communication is frustrating considering that the shop is out of product and sometimes usnt even staffed. On two different occasions I have come into the shop and despite ringing the bell no attendant showed up. All in all I'm certainly not impressed... the Qtea on oneida seemed to run a lot better in opinion and its ashame that they no longer run...
Read moreNot sure why this particular boba tea place is rated so poorly; we liked it a lot. Good selection, good taste, and fair prices, all in a professional, yet cozy setting. Also, lots of fruit/non-dairy options for people like me, who don't like the milk stuff. You can even combine flavors or opt for one of their funky loose leaf blends!
Our one bad experience here was the one time we arrived here about 15 to 30 minutes before the listed closing time and the place was closed. I'll admit we were cutting it close, but that did surprise me a little. There wasn't a note, either.
However, that was a one-time experience, and I'm a little regretful that it made me avoid this place for a while, seeing as it was also our first experience, because we've been denying ourselves what may well be the best boba place in the...
