Kinda sad portions for $10 more than competition in the area, ordered a roast beef, received a turkey, ordered chips, got nothing, went back and was halfheartedly offered macaroni salad. Please try ANY other local deli. To respond: I ordered a pastrami Ruben on a roll with chips and a drink, gf ordered roast beef on sourdough with mayo and mustard. (Toppings limitations to boot, what kind of deli has no pickles or horseradish, but does have bbq sauce) when I received my food I asked for the cup for the fountain drink and it was broken. So I swapped for a soda and left, then I got to the park to eat, and no chips, so I turned back around to grab the chips, cause I wasn’t far, then my gf realized that her sandwich wasn’t a roast beef, but a turkey, she just ate it cause we didn’t feel like going back again. Now, as for portion sizes, first Carolina, and LS&B sandwiches have at LEAST the same portion size of meat but I’d expect at least 2 oz heavier, but my main point of contention is that it was $5 more per sandwich than the competition, slower, and a hassle of an experience. I order a soda while the machine is broken, don’t let me order one, you’re out of chips, don’t let me order them, or at least tell me when you realize, you’re (presumably) out of roast beef too given how everything else went? Don’t sub me turkey without asking. For the record, big sandwich guy here, usually tough to prompt a review in the first place, good or bad, but messing up on a single order in that many ways is a good enough reason for me to avoid in the future, I’d assume others who like correct orders to agree. Think about the 15 hard earned dollars people spend on a sandwich at your store for 4oz of meat before you send out the wrong order.

Edit to respond to owner: added a screenshot from your website with the $2.75 for bagel with cream cheese. Looking through your reviews, you certainly like to try and prove customers wrong. Well, perhaps you need to verify your information first before trying to do so... We're NYC transplants always on the lookout for a good bagel place which is really hard to find outside the NYC area.... The bagels here are really good but we really wanted the 'baconeggandcheese' sandwich like one would find in our local bodega in Brooklyn. Looking at the menu I only saw turkey bacon and sausage, so that was out. I also didn't see any grill flat top - just the toaster and microwave so I figured the breakfast sandwiches wouldn't be any good (with microwaves, might as well go to Brueggers or Einsteins!) So I went with just two plain bagels with cream cheese on the side. Asked for my name for when it was ready... weird, just throw two bagels in a bag and grab cream cheese to go. Nope. They cut and toasted them! I had to give them back and they stated they always toast them so to let them know next time. Perhaps have a sign that says that? Whatever. Toasted them at home and added the schmear - they were good. But the price! $7.78 for two bagels with cream cheese on the side. Didn't realize it at the time, and went online to see the menu and prices and it lists a bagel with cream cheese at $2.75 so it seems I was significantly overcharged (maybe they charged for flavoured cc?) Overall, we give the bagels a good rating but the experience wasn't what we were expecting. Guess we just won't find the true NYC bagel experience here

Update: WOW! Can you believe that they actually lambasted me for giving them a bad review? they think that coming on a weekend is an excuse for them having horrible bagels. What difference does it make what day I come to your shop? And when I called, I asked for the "manager." The person who answered the phone said, " they're asking for the manager, I guess that's you." Really? Why would I waste my time coming back there to get my $5 back. Yes it was not quite $5 but I told her to keep the change cuz I actually had cash. In reading some of the other low scoring reviews, I see that they often berate the customer who says that their product is bad. What a wonderful way to do business! It's been a while since I've been to Greenfield's. And I quit going because their bagels seem to be subpar. This morning I ordered two pumpernickel bagels. Nothing else just the bagels. What I got were two hockey pucks these things are smashed and dense and inedible. Yes I called the store and they offered to reimburse me. But it shouldn't happen in the first place! If you're going to advertise that you have dough from New York and your bagels are just like those in New York, You should not be serving hockey pucks. If they come out wrong, don't sell them! It's easy as that!

So i was planning on giving this place only one star but the reason why im giving two is because the bagels are very good! i wont deny that fact! But the service i received was terrible. Most people (maybe even the owner and staff) will probably roll their eyes over my complaint but for my first time their i need the owners to know this is not OK! I walked in and there were only three other people in the store and they were sitting at tables. I walked in and the first thing i noticed was a girl behind the counter. she didn't acknowledge that i had just walked in the door. I decided to check out the bagels they had and after a minute or two i looked for the girl who was preparing a bagel but still didn't acknowledge i was there! so i moved to the other side of the counter and looked and the menu for a minute and saw another guy in the back who saw me but didn't say a world to me! by this time i was a little irritated because i didn't know where the heck i should stand to get service or be noticed! Another couple walked in after me and I just stood in front of the bagels waiting. they found something they wanted to pay for and went up to the register and asked if they could pay for it and did just that and walked out all before i was serviced at all!!! finally i rushed over to the register before the girl walked away and asked if i could get some bagels. i told her it was my first time there and didn't know how where i should be in order to do that. she told me i had to pay first then pick out my bagels. i did just that and walked out really annoyed! So first thing id like to point out that because this place is still a new store i would expect that they would want to how some initiative into making customers feel welcome! i know that the girl was in the process o making something but a simple "good morning" or "we will be right with you" would have done the job of letting me know they saw me! also i really dont appreciate that i was there for a good five minutes and the people who walked in after me got serviced before me! third, they really need some type of sign telling you where you should stand to order! i was really excited to go here this morning and maybe call this place my home for bagels and simple sandwiches but after my experience i wont be coming back. even with the bagels being a yummy as they were! i truly hope that the owners take this to heart and have a talk with their staff. Im aware that i may be one of the few if not the only one who has a complaint like that but it only takes one bad experience to turn someone away. In being in a customer service environment most of my adult life i take things like...

GF bagel tasted average, so lightly toasted I could not tell it was toasted. I was given no direction on waiting or picking up bagels or if they call your name. No directions and claiming I’m eat here would have been nice to get it in a basket and hot but they had left to there for me to get with no communication. Finally someone came out and handed me a bag of stuff , twice and I had to ask where are my bagels. I am not sure if he was annoyed by Howard my service dog or distracted- but he really hates the GF bagels. Upon asking his favorite “I don’t like any of them at all!!” It’s a fair statement but if you are gf and never get bagels , maybe have more positive opinion or at least a little empathy for people having issue and reason they having for eating gf. These things all added up seem to leave me confused, underserved and regretful of the “money spent and walk here”. The gf bagels were ok, one was slightly moldy flavored, but after the interaction I was not wishing to try for even less communication or annoy more. I am unclear the offense or he was having an off day or my blood sugar was low and I had walked there and not communicating clearly. I would encourage he to take a breath to slow down a bit and check the gf bagels more carefully the mold fast and is not noticeable as other breads. Actually toast the bagels to desired texture… ask the customer how toasted they prefer, then communicate where they will be picked up or brought out. Also, you need to toast a gf bagel a little longer than regular bagel due to the density of the bread. I liked it enough to come back and give it another chance, I hope it was an off day for the manager guy- the other employee seemed also a bit on eggshells and wants to “stir clear”of his busy busy mind and movements when he was around them… maybe he’s need counseling? Or maybe a bad day- Do Not take out your bad moment or day out on others- especially some poor gf bagel...

Ok everyone, this is my experience as it happened today.

I walked into Greenfield’s wanting a breakfast sandwich (ideally bacon, egg, & cheese) but found out that they’re Kosher so no pork products.

As I entered the store I can hear the lady working there complaining to another customer about how she worked all weekend and now she’s back there again because she got called to come in.

-very unpleasant and uncomfortable having to look at the menu and listen to her complain about being there.

So, my husband and I decided on a pastrami, egg, and cheese with double meat on a bagel. Same order for both of us. We also picked up one muffin each.

The lady behind the counter- who is clearly upset that she’s there- tells us that we can save money by ordering a lunch sandwich- which she said “was the same exact thing” but with the lunch order we’ll also get our choice of side item.

Great. Our total for just 2 sandwiches and 2 muffins- a little over $30. -so that’s pretty pricey- but maybe the food is good right?

well we get our order and we head back home to have breakfast and get ready for work.

Here goes:

My desired order of a pastrami, egg and cheese with extra meat had NO extra meat (I would imagine more than one slice of pastrami would be considered “extra” meat) NO EGG on my pastrami, egg and cheese. (At this point my desire to eat this is non existent) We ordered a cucumber salad side that was completely wilted and mush (probably old) Our muffins were $4 bucks a piece and had no flavor indicative of the type of muffin we got (pumpkin & pistachio)

Overall- just gross experience with the staff and food was WAY SUBPAR.

NY style bagels is the WRONG classification of deli. It’s JUST a VERY BASIC deli.

The bagels are ok. The pastrami tasted ok.

But DEFINITELY NOT worth $30 bucks.

Save your money and go to New Garden bagels.

Better food, better quality, better service AND WAY...
