The Black Sheep đŸ–€đŸ‘ “Experience authentic Mediterranean cuisine crafted with passion, quality ingredients, and a commitment to excellence.” 🐑 They have only been open 3 weeks - they are a must-eat!đŸ–€ 🐑 The pictures below will only be available for a few more weeks, then their entire menu (including hand crafted, specially curated cocktails) will change for the fall season. 🐑 Business Casual to cocktail attire would fit the vibe. Service was white glove exceptional with acute attention to detail. We appreciated a well paced meal with exquisite presentation. The moody and dimly lit atmosphere was just bright enough to read your menu, but also dark enough to unbotton your stretchy pants. 🐑 Appetizers: My father-in-law was born in Kuwait (Middle East) and said this was the best Muhammara and Lamb Kibbeh he’s ever had. The dolma (stuffed grape leaves) were served warm - personally, I think the only right way to serve them, lol! - and was very flavorful. 🐑 Main Entrees: We all shared the Lamb (pinwheel style with tart cherries), Chicken Thighs (charred exterior with beautiful figs and green wheat), Veal Ghormeh Sabzi (perfectly tender with rice and beans), Potato (thinly sliced, stacked potatoes marrinated overnight, then fried giving a crunchy exterior and an interior brusting flavor), and Zucchini (with incredible carrot frites and whipped feta). The zucchini was the table favorite followed closely by the veal. The chicken and lamb were both slightly overcooked, but had great flavor. 🐑 Dessert: wow. We shared one of each, but the Semolina cake (cornbread texture soaked in rose water with tart yellow Greek yogurt icing and plenty of pistachios) and the Mulberry Tart (mulberries and lavender cream- can you say, GORGEOUS!!) were the crowd favorites. All in all, OUTSTANDING!! We can’t wait to go back!! Our waitress, Hayley, was an absolute delight and had us cracking up all night with her dry humor. THANK YOU!! đŸ–€

I was excited to try The Black Sheep after seeing its impending opening mentioned several times in GVLtoday. Decided to make a Resy for the day after opening night. Before I get into the restaurant itself, please note that finding it is a bit difficult- and you're likely going to be parking in the parking garage of Main & Stone. Fully expected timing to be off, dishes not to be at 100%...and that was the experience we had. Started off with the lavash board, which was good and came out rather quickly. Cocktail was good, I believe the name had "damascus" in it. After getting recommendations from our server, we got the wagyu kebab and the lamb as entrees. While I understand the establishment's concept is upscale, for the price point I was expecting "more" from the experience, overall, and that's where my 3-star rating comes from. My lamb was incredibly tough and dry, and the small portion of protein on a small bed of bulgar was not making sense for the high price of $40. My partner's kebab looked and tasted better, in comparison, but was still $38. We got the semolina cake and a sweetened Turkish coffee for desert, which were both just okay. The coffee was in a glass cup smaller than an espresso shot for $5... I also personally found the "white glove" service a bit odd. Not in and of itself, just in this setting. Flatware was both removed and replaced between courses, and it was quite awkward for our server to be picking each piece of flatware up and removing it individually. Just added to the strangely paced timing overall. We were also seated in a booth that didn't allow for seeing much of the restaurant. I'd probably sit at the bar next time. Would like to return after they've found a groove to give them another go, as we were told their menu is seasonal.

As an Armenian (with an Armenian wife)
when an Armenian restaurant gets announced in town, everyone texts you about it. Alas, we were out of town for opening night so we didn’t make it then. We did tonight. Made a reservation this afternoon. Couldn’t get exactly the time I wanted and it worked out well because our schedule unexpectedly adjusted. We have eaten at Armenian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants all over N America, Europe, Armenia and the Middle East. This was one of the best. I appreciated that the menu doesn’t go too wide with all the regular fare that everyone tries to do. The menu went “deep” in that what dishes it had, it did really well. For instance, that was the best kibbeh Iave had in a restaurant. The wagyu kebab competed with the best kebabs I’ve had at a restaurant. Service was more refined than you find in most places in Greenville. On that point, there are a few competitors. I love the level of attention paid to every detail. I can quickly tell a lot about a restaurant by the kind of silverware and dishes they choose. The dolma. Delicious. Not the same tired crap that 99% of places will feed you. It wasn’t heavy at all, even though it was a meat filled dolma. Not a cocktail guy. However the bartender did say they will have Arak soon. I am an Arak guy. Can’t wait for Greenville to have more of that stuff. The mulberry tart was delightful and not too heavy or sweet. Topped off with a Turkish coffee. Though I was offered cream with that

Armenian coffee! Danielle the owner-visionary-chef is delightful. She did let us in on what coming in the fall. My wallet is ready for round 2! We will be back. With friends!

The hostesses were fantastic. Our waitress was also fantastic. All of the servers and staff seemed upbeat, happy, and personable.

The atmosphere: Great! Love the black decor and the darker scheme.

The Drinks: I had a soda water with Hendricks and a shot of peppermint basil oil which was great! I also had their Negroni which was also great! I also tried their original "Bouquet of Damascus" which was fantastic and well done.

The Food: Here is where I stopped. I had the Veal Ghormeh Sabzi which was labeled as Armenian. How are you going to label this Armenian when it's Persian!! It's literally an Iranian dish! This was supposed to be a lamb stew served over rice. It is supposed to have a lime, cilantro, and a sweet and savory taste with beans. What I had tonight was a DISASTER. The lamb was extremely watery and had no lime or any flavor. The rice was completely dry with no olive oil or any oil. They use BLACK BEANS which were clearly not cooked/poured out of a can/served cold. In fact, the whole entire dish was served cold. My rice and lamb was cold. Unacceptable and to be charging $38 for this is absurd considering the lamb was NOT off the bone and was probably less than a cup dry.

The Smoked white fish was also not good. There was no lemon or lime served with it and it was also a tad undercooked and had no taste except for just salt. I kid you not, there was no seasonings on it at all. The rice served with it was also bone dry. This dish was served COLD as well. For $35, this is absolutely unacceptable.

Dessert: We tried the Semolina Cake. Absolutely a disaster. The pistachio tasted not freshly chopped (could be wrong but had a powdery texture which led me to believe it was previously bought chopped). The icing was very sweet and did not complement the bone dry cake underneath. I did not taste any rose petal on it as well. The cake was also served blackened on the back and overcooked. For $14, this is absurd. This should have been served fresh, warm, and top notch for that top notch price.

Overall, this place is new, I get it, but if you are going to be charging NEW YORK prices right out of the gate, the food better be on point and to standard. I am of middle eastern descent and the food was absolutely not authentic and extremely watered down. Literally, how do you serve fish without any lemon or oil or any spice other than salt....And not to mention, how do you serve stew COLD.

Final price: $160 for all of this. The drinks were fantastic and the service was great. The...

We had an 8 p.m. reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant side was buzzing, while the bar area was quieter and relaxed—perfect for a comfortable dinner atmosphere.

Our server was exceptional—one of the best we’ve had in Greenville. He knew the menu inside and out, offered thoughtful suggestions, and explained how the restaurant changes its menu seasonally to highlight different regions of the Mediterranean. The cocktail list is also impressively long and creative.

For appetizers, we tried several dishes: Baked Brie: Phenomenal—topped with honey and herbs, served with a warm baguette from Rize Bakery. Spiced Carrots: My personal favorite of the night—thinly sliced carrots with goat cheese and incredible flavor balance. Onion & Apple Tart: The table’s favorite—savory and subtly sweet. Lahmajoun: My close second—soft bread with a perfectly crisp edge and bold, layered flavors.

For mains, we had the lamb shank (fall-off-the-bone tender with a rich, heavy sauce), the NY strip (one of the better steaks I’ve had in Greenville, served with several unique sauces), and the duck, which ended up being the table favorite. We also ordered the mushrooms from the “Garden” section—everyone else loved them, I just don’t like mushrooms.

Dessert was the only weak point. We ordered the crema catalana (similar to crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e) and the orange cake. Both were underwhelming—the crema’s top wasn’t caramelized quite right, and the cake was dry. To his credit, our server noticed and kindly removed them from the bill. I think the desserts poor performance can be attributed to the time we ordered. It was late and many of the kitchen staff had already left. Given how strong the rest of the experience was, this didn’t change my overall impression.

Overall, The Black Sheep delivered one of the best meals I’ve had in Greenville—excellent service, thoughtful menu, and...
